Taylor93's Mk1 VRS

Bu66er mate, I'm absolutely gutted to hear this :( got a 1.2 engine if you need it ;) on a more serious note if you've goosed the engine might be worth seeing if the local minibus depot still has one lying about. Sounds a similar story to me and my Fabia with no option but to ease it home, I was doing 3mph up a local hill and if I'd have been sensible and got it towed I'd still have it working perfectly :(

Nothing wrong with taking the Citigo instead!

Surely there is some form of alternative vehicle available?

If it's wet, you'll probably be rounding up all the drivers who pussyfoot about.

Shame to hear this... not a good thing to have happen. Good luck getting it back on the road.

Ah man that is gutting, but at least it didn't kill the engine. My brother has a pd130 turbo though if you need it. It's a garrett too.

edited with the 2nd video

Sunday will be the day, ill pull some bits off and see the damage. not overly keen on going too far with it tho.

the line in the sand has been drawn....

That looks pretty bad, I think that's as bad as my turbo was when it was fitted

You watched the 2nd video?

it was like that from M2 Bridge strood side, all the way up to the Rochester/Bluebell hill junction. AFter that every traffic light i was deploying my 007 smoke screen.

In the video i popped it out of gear then after a short delay all the smoke came out its essentially fueling with oil on the overrun.

It's dead, Jim.

:(

Could lend him the FGF estate for Brands?

Mmm take Yet1 and BO55FOX to upset the regular Brands crowd.

Yep saw the video, best way to stop tailgaters :D

Yes when I first had this turbo fitted the internal seals failed/ hadn't been renewed, so the down pipe had oil dumped into it. The white cloud was almost as spectacular

WEll as Richard knows when i drive cars i tend to be followed by break downs

YET1 driving to Combe - Rear diff exploded (due to lack of oil)

Mk3 Fiesta - bottom end started knocking

Fabia vRS - Spectacular Blown turbo

i suppose i should stop dropping mirrors and letting these black cats walk infront of me.

Still not as many as I've knackered in a few months mate.

One thing after another. Feel for you mate.

Bad news Taylor, hope you manage to get back on the road quickly!

SO i went Paintballing today with work, 1 as i had already paid full entry, 2 to take my mind off of things.

Came home and got to work with a mate to pull the turbo off. excuse the bad terminology in the video it was all very impromptu

checked the oil too, feels very metalic, like fine sandpaper :(

Plan to fit another turbo, do a full oil change + flush

remove the FMIC and retrieve the small part of Fin which broke off the inlet side.

clean out all the oil....

I suppose 100k isnt bad out of a KKK turbo.

But oh well these things test us and the fact the car isnt currently in flames, id say tis going very well. The turbo isnt very difficult to remove and i had it off in a gentle hour n half with a mate helping

Back on track, I am sure you will sort it out Taylor, after all it is only money. I have a few requests out for a turbo for you, will let you know if I get anything back.

So at the AMD Meet today I purchased a turbo from Dark Hero's Brother. It was from an Octavia PD130 so needed clocking, but was in fair condition for the price.

It will certainly get me gonig again until i decide whether or not to go for a larger turbo.

Anyway Clocking the Turbo was alot harder than anticipated, there are 6 bolts which hold/clamp the intake snail to the turbos housing. 4/6 rounded off :( had to improvise with a 7mm spanner & a hammer then later a dremmel (they are normally 8mm but ground down to 7mm). but I got that sorted and turned it to the right angle. Then changed over the oil couplings (slightly different length of the thread) and bits and bobs for the turbo.

None the less its now on the car, downpipes bolted on, intake mani too.

To do list:

Fit Boost pipes & EGR Valve (not deleting it just yet)

Connect Vacuum lines

Remove FMIC and find the missing fin

Drain the Oil and flush it (halfords cheap stuff)

Renew oil again, using Mobil 5W30 VW 507 Spec

both times i also want to change the oil filter, however as its Sunday i couldnt get an oil filter for it! So will have to wait till monday

I am a little nervous that the actuator on the turbo will need adjusting as it came from an Octavia and not a Fabia, but will have to wait and see.

Jeez you don't hang about do you. Well done mate.

Glad we could get you sorted :)

Thanks :) But I actually took ages to do this today, was taking it slow as im Aching from Paint-balling yesterday.

what took longest was getting the replacement turbo ready to fit, the old one had studs which came out with the copper nuts, but the replacement had the studs still fitted, so i needed to lock two nuts together to turn the actual nut off, meant i lost time there as i had to do it about 3-4 times.

Pulled the old KKK apart and this was the damage to the intake compressor

Here is the reverse of the exhaust compressor, note the polished smooth shaft where it had sheered away from the intake compressor shaft
