Poor fuel consumption?

Featured Replies

Some news today.

They've tried a donor sender unit from another Rapid and apparently there is no movement after a long drive/stationary. They've still got to do block measurements blah blah before ordering one of these units. Day 8 of having it so far. SUK are chasing it up tommorow [emoji106]

Will have to wait like I have been and somewhat patiently too [emoji6]

At least there is some sign of progress, and you are still holding their Yeti hostage until they get it sorted. Hopefully they will stop messing about, replace the affected parts, and get the car back on the road.

  • I believe that you keep focusing on the wrong thing (gauge position) and still ignoring what's really important (avg consumption).   Anyway, when you refuel the car, you will be a able to calculate

  • Yeh poss its like everything though, its how you drive it. If you want to do 70-80 on the motorway the diesel im sure will be WAYYYYY ahead of the tsi. However i reckon at 55-60 there won't be much in

  • Hi, Just did over 300miles up / down the A9 to Inverness (+drive up to ski slope at Aviemore) and all around Inverness area + some hairy single track roads :peek:   Car is Rapid 1.4TSI DSG   The

I find my 1.2 Rapid warms up quicker than the 1.8 normally aspirated Civic that I used to have on the same journey to work. It's up to temperature about half way to work and the Civic was just about getting there when I was turning into the industrial estate at work

I hope so. SUK have just phoned and are on the case again seeing what's going on today [emoji106]

She's calling me back later with answers.

Skoda UK have spoke to the dealer and they are still doing tests with a donor sender unit. They want to be sure as the part they will order is non returnable so they need to be 100% that it will solve it. I could be looking at Friday now before I get it back [emoji19]

All 3 occasions they have tested and tested even though I know there VAS machine only has one set routine for this. Bit of a joke if you ask me [emoji6]

They also know I'm bordering on rejection now so they want it to be 100% when I get it [emoji57]

If the fuel gague is not reading correctly wouldn't it follow that the maxidot might not give you the correct figures?

I do not achieve the claimed mpg in mine but I wasn't expecting to. However I do get significantly better mpg from my Rapid than I did with my old Roomster 1.6 and the tsi is much quieter and more driveable too.

Frankly do not believe your friends figures for the 2.0tsi vRs. He must either have a fault or be driving it in a very un-vrsy manner!

The thing is though is that the Rapid Hatchback has a light body with a light 105bhp engine which should easily achieve high mpg figures but fails at doing this. I've tried all kinds of driving styles/speeds to no avail. Even the

The brand new Yeti I have as a courtesy car at the moment is a 1.2tsi and is no better.

Just curious, you say no better, but is it worse? Because it really should be.. the Yeti is much heavier than the Rapid and has the aerodynamics of a shed.

  • Author

Haha yes it is a shed of s car. It's doing about 36 mpg. I haven't used it recently as I'm in the trusty Citigo [emoji106]

The point about the Rapid and this thread I started is mainly about which is true now is the false figures this car is giving me due me not knowing correctly what's in the tank and and the Maxidot readout. I knew this wasn't right from the start. The other week before it went in for the 3rd time it was just under half full but would only take 17 litres to fill it back up [emoji15]

So definitely wrong there. Then I do 39 miles and it reads only 3/4 full. Weird [emoji57]

I might get to enjoy it soon (possibly Friday)

But I'm not holding my breath.

So now a new sender unit - Fail

New instrument cluster - Fail

Now been told by Skoda Technical to fit a whole new wiring loom [emoji19]

I've now started proceeds to reject the car with VWFS.

SUK don't deal with this and it's not up to the dealer so I'm letting them sort it out which I've been told can take up to 8 weeks after all the investigations have been done.

I don't want a like for like either as I'm gunning for a cut off from Skoda with this.

I still have my Citigo Sport which has been no bother at all for the last 18 months [emoji4]

It's a bloody shame, but it appears you do have a lemon. You've given them ample opportunity to rectify the issue, so sadly you do need to reject it.

It's the right thing to do.

Yes sadly it's in the garage with all its trim, seats and carpet out. It will never be the same after that regardless of fixed or not. It's there 3rd time so too bad [emoji57]

I certainly don't want another. The Yeti has been returned and I've got a Spaceback Tsi in a nasty Green colour

I like the green! Be better with black pack on it. Are you just going to keep your Citigo? Or get an Octy? Guess that means you'll be leaving us either way! :( my average is still 35mpg during city driving during rush hour and 45 long motorway driving. I'm hard pressed to get it above that. Maybe more when it's a little warmer.

Sad you are rejecting him, he was such a lovely colour and had lots of potential.

  • Author

Thanks for your kind words [emoji4]

I will not be wanting a replacement sadly. I'll just be using the Citigo for now. The Rapid they've loaned me is a 1.2tsi SE Sport Spaceback which is so much better than mine. If that was Race Blue it would be very tempting [emoji6]

In terms of fuel consumption or?

Yes very good on fuel so far [emoji106]

Doesn't feel like a 105 that they said it was though. It's advertised as one. Feels lacking at 3K miles compared to mine at 2K.

Mine is being "running in" though [emoji6]

Quite impressed with the Spaceback so far and lots of equipment [emoji4]

Is it 5 or 6 speed box?

Interesting it is much better on fuel.. have you actually brim-to-brimmed yours to see whether it is actually bad on fuel or whether it is just the gague/maxidot?

  • Author

It's a 6 speed.

Sadly with mine I never had a chance to see what it's true Mpg was due to the gauge jumping up and down and the Maxidot confused. I never knew how much fuel was in it.

The Spaceback is so far very good on useage. I've only had it a day as I had to return the loan Yeti to them. But it's dials work much different to mine. They're as they're supposed to be which really puts mine as very faulty. I'll have to see if the whole interior loom change cures it but after being gutted inside of trims/seats and carpets it will probally be rattly after. As of Friday I have rejected it but it will take up to 8 weeks to process. Very sad [emoji17]

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's definitely a 105 then..

If the Spaceback is getting much better mpg it's clear to me it's not just a problem with the way your dial is behaving but with the way the car is reading fuel consumption too. Shame.

Take it you don't like my cars looks then :giggle:

Our SE Sportpack is effectively the same as this SE Sport but without the nav or climate control.

Anyway I hope you get a satisfactory resolution to your issues.

It's a nice car TP but I just can't get on with that colour [emoji6]

If it was Race Blue it would be perfect [emoji106]

Expecting SUK to call tomorrow as they have been all the way through. They phone me more than the dealer [emoji57] and I get more news on progress. The poor Rapid is gutted inside. Very sad.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a choice of a used Elegance TDI 105 in race blue or our current car new for a couple of hundred more. Liked both colours myself and getting the new car seemed the better option, particularly as the TSI is noticeably quieter and smoother to drive.

So SC what are you going to buy next since your "Rapid Bleu" love affair has burned so badly?

TBH the blue never did it for me - a car labelled Sport needed to be painted in primary colours white, red, yellow, black, or orange, not old man's Rover 45 metallics.

VRS origin (Race Blue) lol

Haven't heard anything for a week since the rejection process started. I don't want anything else. I've got my Citigo [emoji106]

The Rapid is still at the dealers after 3 and a half weeks. They're taking the ..... I'm sure.

Still no fix for it. Hopefully I won't see it again [emoji16]
