Poor fuel consumption?

Featured Replies

Hopefully everything will get sorted for you Stormchaser. When you have a citigo why do you need any other car, lol.

There are some cracking deals on ibizas at the minute so I had an extended test drive in a 1.2 tsi(105) must say, I wasn't impressed! Didn't seem as quick as the book suggests and after a long mixed drive only got 37mpg. Took and old 1.4 16v model out back to back and that drove nicer and got 44mpg! The salesmans tactics backfired and he was a bit gutted lol. If the roadtax wasn't so expensive I'd have probably bought a 1.4, cracking deal for £130pm, especially compared to the new fabia!

  • I believe that you keep focusing on the wrong thing (gauge position) and still ignoring what's really important (avg consumption).   Anyway, when you refuel the car, you will be a able to calculate

  • Yeh poss its like everything though, its how you drive it. If you want to do 70-80 on the motorway the diesel im sure will be WAYYYYY ahead of the tsi. However i reckon at 55-60 there won't be much in

  • Hi, Just did over 300miles up / down the A9 to Inverness (+drive up to ski slope at Aviemore) and all around Inverness area + some hairy single track roads :peek:   Car is Rapid 1.4TSI DSG   The

I wish I had access to my Rapedo 105 tsi right now. Instead I have a ford fusion 2.5 auto. 175bhp, slower than the toledo and does 25-35 mpg.

mind you it is a free lease car, and gas here is $1.79 per US gal (only I don't pay for that either). and I got it serviced free today(without even booking in)

even though it's free, it's still crap. I think I may be a bit jealous of the lads next door who have a free Dodge Ram crewcab instead.

I'd rather have SC's skoda with the rubbish fuel gauge ;)

1st proper fill up today. I've only had the car a few weeks and thought I'd top up the tank at 1000m. Have achieved an actual 47.3mpg - mostly motorway driving.

I used the wifes 1.4 TSI DSG last week to work (50 mile mostly motorway commute) and i had 60.1 MPG showing MFD readout. Brilliant, sitting at 60-65mph.

Better still was did long tour in the borders at weekend on mixed roads and averaged 50+mpg.

No complaints here!! and it has great zip when required!

If you are focused on mpg, why brim the tank? You will be carrying around me weight than is needed thus reducing what you are trying to increase?

I've the 1.6tdi(105) and I got 69.6 mpg on a thirty mile journey earlier this week. I'm happy with that :)

Yes there is a weight penalty, but long distance commuteres don't want to fill up every day.

Also it's the only way to accurately measure your mpg - brim to brim.  I even use the same pump consecutive times if trying to get an accurate figure.

My 1.2 TSI (86), at just above 1600m on the dash, starts to improve the consumption (acc. to what's displayed). In city I have 35-40mpg (7-8l/100km) and outside (very seldom driving there) is abt. 50mpg (5.5l/km). I do expect to get better :)

Shame a good engine has such high fuel consumption [emoji57]

just put last weeks fill up into fuelly and recorded my first 50mpg fill to fill  :)

TP

I'm filling up in the morning, expect it will be another 45mpg from the 105ps 1.2 - most of this tank full was local driving, so on that basis it's not bad going.

I finally filled up today Chris, same average as you and more local trips on the last tank.

It's taken me nearly 6 weeks to use it. :) I do use fuel in another car though.

Must be a Mansfield thing!!

Mine (Rainworth supplied) averages mid to high 30's, but not overly concerned as it seems reasonable given the relative size of the car and it's mainly short distance urban use. The average speed on the long-term trip meter is around 17 mph.

I'm amazed at some of the claimed MPG's posted on here, but find Fuelly useful for keeping tabs of long-term fuel use - my best is 46 mpg and worst 35 mpg.

I've tracked several of my earlier cars over the last few years:

http://www.fuelly.com/car/skoda/yeti/2012/pinkpanther/139070

http://www.fuelly.com/car/honda/cr-v/2007/pinkpanther/93228

http://www.fuelly.com/car/skoda/octavia/2010/pinkpanther/62506

Each of my old cars achieved nothing like their manufacturer claimed MPG's, but were all reasonable. Interestingly it was the oldest car (2002 4x4 1.8T Octavia) which came closest to it's claimed MPG.

Fuelly link to current cars below

Back on summer tyres now (215/45/16) and last tank returned 37.7 mpg. My Maxi-dot average speed on the long-term (2) option is just 17 mph (mainly urban use). Overall average is 37.5 mpg, which has hardly budged over the last ~7K miles.

Good thread guys, expecting to pick mine up this week.

I'm just wondering what PSI you all have your tyres at? And i suppose if you have the 15" rims or 17"? Do you carry a full size space in the boot too? Curious as to any difference this might make.

There's a full size spare in my Rapid Hatchback. Plenty of room/depth for it.

215/17's are worse by about 4 mpg, but 15's look ridiculous - especially on a Spaceback.

I dont know if there is a spare in mine, or what the TP are.

John,

I have a Toledo with 16" rims and the best PSI i find so far is 32psi all round. (Checked when cold)

I have a full size spare in mine (Not an alloy though)

Have just completed my second 1000 miles of ownership and brimmed the tank to get an actual reading. Using high octane fuel and 90/95% motorway driving with liberal use of the cruise control, it returned 48.8 mpg (actual). This is up on my first 1000 miles by about 3-4%. Engine is 1.2 TFSI.

good numbers

Those are good numbers. Is that 2,000 miles from new, or did you buy it second hand (in which case what's your total mileage)? As the car runs in it should only get better economy-wise.

BTW - you have a TSI engine, the TFSI is not fitted to any Rapid model alas.

Thanks for the comments. I bought the car 2nd hand, 13 months old with 4900 on the clock. So with my 2000 miles, it's showing just on 7k. Sorry about the "TFSI" slip up Chris!

I guess that's 39/40 mpg average?

A right mix of driving though and some of it quite hard [emoji6]

Using my FuelLog App I've managed the following since 1/1/14 until now from my 105 TSI SE

61 fill-ups

2706 litres

26,806 Miles

Average MPG 45.89

Best MPG 50.50

Worst MPG 38.72

I combination of a 30 mile each way commute on country roads and a lot of town short journeys.

Very happy with that.

Pretty much in line with my own. I noticed things got a little better after my first service (and after 10,000 miles). The 1.2TSI really started to loosen up then and became better to drive and a more frugal on the dinosaur juice.

Going in next week for a 15,000 mile oil and filter change, which I think will deliver a small improvement. Been doing a lot of city driving of late which has hammered my MPG.
