Poor fuel consumption?

How do you do a vented tank fill?

Not next week obviously - too hot.

Is that the 1.4 TSi that goes bang then?

  • I believe that you keep focusing on the wrong thing (gauge position) and still ignoring what's really important (avg consumption).   Anyway, when you refuel the car, you will be a able to calculate

  • Yeh poss its like everything though, its how you drive it. If you want to do 70-80 on the motorway the diesel im sure will be WAYYYYY ahead of the tsi. However i reckon at 55-60 there won't be much in

  • Hi, Just did over 300miles up / down the A9 to Inverness (+drive up to ski slope at Aviemore) and all around Inverness area + some hairy single track roads :peek:   Car is Rapid 1.4TSI DSG   The

Yes sad when you have to granny a modern ish engine to get economy [emoji19]

Yes you need to drive around 55 mph and not use brakes ie anticipate. I am sometimes on the phone so like to settle back with the lorries.

Use A roads thru Dorset rather than A34 and M4 etc. Result.

On the Fabia 2 there is a little valve on the side of the neck of the filler which if you keep pressed down allows you to access the expansion take volume.  As long as you are starting on a longish journey which is gonig to use at least 5 litres or so no problem and you get get over 50 litres in the nominal 45 litre tank.

My 1.4 TSI twincharge was fine for the 100K miles had it for.  Engine as sweet as it was when new when I sold her back to the dealer.   Burnt a bit of oil.  Great engine, 7 speed DSG would get confused sometimes.

Slight preference for the 1.8 TSI engine in the L&K Octavia, same sort of insane 7k revs, great car.  Preferred these 2 to the Octy 2 TSI VRS.   Wanted the 1.4 TSI DSG Rapid/Toledo but SUK reduced the discounts and Dacia and maybe one day Clio RS 220 will be a proper replacement for the Fabia 2 VRS.

I got 72 mpg out of mine on a run from Bury to Beamish Co Durham 135 miles, last Saturday.

Wanted the 1.4 TSI DSG Rapid/Toledo

have it and great car to drive performaqnace , smoothness and economy/

mIND YOU LOOKED AT 1.6 DSG Elegance EX DEMO Rapid. but TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO big a difference to pay for the MPG delta. ( delta for for engineers and statistic minded folk) ;<)

...and you would have badly compromised the performance, smoothness, handling and ride, with that rattly great lump of a diesel up front.

If anyone drives both (I did) I can't see how they would choose the Taxi version over the sporty one.

How is handling and ride compromised with the diesel?

Performance-wise you are right, they are close, but the 1.4 TSI is better.

I drove both, have you?

200lbs more weight on the front gives a harder ride and ponderous handling, more tyre wear and as noted on here the other day heavy wear on steering parts.

The engine sounds to me like a concrete mixer when compared with the super smooth 12 or 14Tsi.

I wouldn't buy that diesel engine in any car - my 1991 Mitsubishi 4D68 Sirius Diesel was smoother and quieter than the 20 year more modern VW 1.6 tdi that I test drove in a Toledo.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing, I was just asking. No, I haven't driven both so I'll take your word for the handling/ride part.

Sorry, didn't mean to bang on quite so hard.

We all choose the car that suits us best as individuals.

I'm happy with the petrol, but techie (on here and SEAT forums) totally rates the diesel.

Each to their own.

"Bong" at last the fuel light came on just now. A staggering 317.8 miles covered [emoji19]

Bit strange though as the petrol pump clicked 3 times and I could only get 37.1 litres in it. A total of £44 on the dot. ( expensive down here)

All I can say is " what a piece of sh* t this car is"

1st time I've seen the traction control light flashing it's nuts off tonight [emoji16][emoji16]

Yep - your fuel gauge is still buggered!

Sent from my iPad Mini with Retina using Tapatalk, please excuse any typos.

Yes - your gauge and light are hoop.

I ran down to range 5 miles the other day and got 52 litres in for £60+

How hard do you drive it to get the TCS on in the dry?  Unless it has a soft front tyre.

Is the suspension still wrongly set up?

I've only managed to get TCS to kick-in once since I got the car - driving over a cattle grid.

Yes I totally rate the Diesel, you can't argue with 685 miles per tank every time :)

I drive a lot every week so had to get the diesel, I use my wifes petrol at weekends so that keeps me sane!! (35mpg :) )

Umm I drive it like [emoji6]

Nothing wrong with the Contis and all correct pressures.

The suspension is ok but it's just 20mm higher at the front. Thanks Skoda UK for not bothering to help me on this with your incorrect parts fitted to my car. I know your following my threads on here as part of my case as you said you were. So just letting other owners know exactly what you're like and I hope they'll put all there grudges on here too for you to read.

So difficult to get good fuel consumption in such awful traffic conditions.

So much road work, OK when they are 50 mph and moving but so much of them are reduced lanes and crawling traffic.

Services so slow to clear accidents and so poor at re-routing traffic rather than letting it get baulked by the jam.

On the plus side the eco App on my Sat Nav, biulting in on the Renault Media-Nav system but Tom-Tom and other have too, never had the VAG system on any on my Audis, SEATs or Skoda as it was a very expensive option and not the no brainer Dacia-Renault opition at £250/300 for phone, media. satnav but that helps fuel consumption quite a bit taking you down the A and B roads which the route shorter and optimum speed ie circa 55 mph.

Only 50 mpg over the last week journey of almost 1000 miles but then it was 37 degrees at Heathrow and aircon on fairly high, bad traffic, and then some 80 indicated cruising to make up some time.

I'm sending these to SUK for them to see. Look at the drop in these pictures over such a few miles.

Dont you mean "what a piece of **** this fuel gauge is"?

It's the only item you've ever complained about - you loved the colour, the alloys, the media system, yada yada.

That said you should never have had it back after rejecting it, and everyone on here has learned that lesson from you.

  • Author

Yeah I know.

I know I keep going on but Skoda will be looking here and its information for future readers. I'm going for the rejection of there rejection to reject my rejection :)

Admit it you are going for the UK Land speed record and are running flat out on the Bournemouth beach.

(sub 1.5 litre MSA record held by Fabia VRS currently)

Also you have fitted a second fuel rack like the Octavia FL TSI had for its land speed record at Bonneville (228 mph and probably doing around 6 mpg).

This explains the rapid, excuse the pun, fuel usage me thinks.

Is your handbrake stuck on as well as in the picture and are you driving with the doors open (see Top Gear episode trying to use fuel in the Ukraine with the VW UP-Citigo-Mii, Dacia Sandero and Ford Siesta )?

Nope I was stationary as I don't take pictures whilst moving.
