Someone's keyed my baby.

Recommended Posts

Makes me so angry reading about these sort of happenings, and even worse if done deliberately.

Try a smart repair place, plenty about ask for info on them in your area, someone on here may be of help.

I went out to my car today and immediately caught my eye was a 6 inch ish scratch along the back door fairly deep. Looks deliberate. I'm gutted. :(

I bet you are. Some sad people around.

Had that happen to my Fabia MK2 vRS that visual appearance stays with you even when you get the car repaired.

Same emotion as you get with a break in and smashed glass everywhere.

:'(  to hear this, I get annoyed just by other road users throwing stones from poor quality surface dressing at me and causing paint chips (happens all to often round here), so I can imagine how your feeling about needless vandalism.

Maybe we need to bring back transportation say to an uninhabited volcanic atoll in the middle of the Pacific

Natalie

So sorry to hear about the car - it's disgusting that people consider that to be acceptable behaviour. Why do people do it. I once had a Kia that some scumbag keyed from bumper to bumper the day I collected it. Went right down to the metal.

How deep is the scratch, has it gone down to the primer (can you catch your fingernail in it) or is it shallow enough to machine out without a respray?

Bless you Natalie!   As "Roger Rapid" is very dear to my heart and my son's Octy VRS "Kermit" is very close to his, we would be absolutely livid if anyone deliberately damaged either one!

Try getting someone from "Chips Sway", or a local guy who specialises in small areas of damage,  on the case - it may not be as much as you think to have the scratch "blown in" with a local spray.

Thanks guys. It's gut wrenching. I took it to a friend who specialises in such things and he's touching it up for me for free. He says it's probably not going to remove it but make it less noticeable. Otherwise my only other option is to have that entire door resprayed. :(

He agrees it's too deep to be accidental. I don't understand how people could be so horrible. I'd never dream of such a thing even if I disliked the person.

Mine was done similarly a couple of months ago.  What got me though is usually when someone keys a car they go down the whole length of the car.  Why then stop at just a 6" one?  Should this be considered a small blessing?

I am relatively lucky that this door is dented, doesn't open from the outside, and I have a complete spare door at home outside in the back garden in the right colour.....

Last year I had someone kick a large dent into the rear passenger panel (3 door) on my citigo, you could still see the dirty footprint when I found it. £200 to fix and respray. I know it was one of the of the then neighbour's drunk guests (who liked to fight in the street at 5am as a hobby) but the police did nothing useful. It's a frustrating experience, I would still report it even if it goes nowhere. If someone is making a habit of it, they may get caught later doing it to someone else.

Had a fun car park experience in my Rapid too. Drove in and parked, was really heavy rain so I sat in my car to see if it would ease. A woman ran up to the car next to me, protecting her hair as if she might die if it got wet, threw open her door and hit mine as she jumped in. She hadn't realised I was there until I got out and gave her the dirtiest look I could. Luckily no damage when I checked it and she drove away looking rather sheepish.

If/when I move home, I'm getting off road parking, away from other people!

Mine looks identical to yours devonutopia

Mines just lower down. My mother in laws car had been done earlier this year also along both doors, and they would have had to come onto the drive to do it. She's recently bought a 14 plate Leon Cupra so I've told her to keep an eye on it. Sorry to hear about the experiences you guys have had, I just don't understand why anyone would feel the need. :(

chin up Nat, I'm sure your buddy will sort it out so you'll not see it.

years ago, i returned to my Audi to find it had been walked over - dents in bonnet roof & boot - i was soooooo mad!

3 weeks later after several days in the body shop it was like new. yours will be too.

A friend who will do it for free sounds like the best kind of repairer!   Even if you can still see it a bit when he first sprays it, a few months of the cycle of dirt, grime and washing will help it settle down nicely.   It's just horrible that people are out there who feel the urge to damage nice things!

If it's any consolation, Isambard Kingdom Brunel of Great Western Railway fame was perplexed in the 1870's by vandals who continually unscrewed carriage doors and threw them on the embankments between Paddington and Bristol, so senseless destruction is nothing new!

If you catch a vandal though, whatever you do to them is fair game! ;)
