  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

Me? Never owned a 'conda so wouldn't know -  I prefer the smaller ships.  I know with engineering you can get 70KLY jump ranges now.

What about an Asp, then? I'm mainly looking for something that can comfortably handle a bimble out to those destinations mentioned on the last page...

Are the extra fuel tanks worth getting as, AFAIK, it's the FSD that limits the jump range?

An Asp is fine, went all the way to the other side in a 32.5ly Asp. currently piloting a 51ish ly Asp. I'll post a link later with a build - it does involve a bit of engineering. Extra fuel tanks are a waste of space - reduce your jump range and since you can filter star types to KGBFOAM you can never run out if you have a fuel scoop.

As promised:-Asp Build

Note the Power plant (overcharged), FSD (range lvl 5), Sensors (weight) and DSS (faster or Range)  have all been engineered - you can tinker around for ages. You could drop one (or both) of the AFMUs and replace with cargo racks. You will need a AFMU if you plan to use Neutron/ White Dwarf supercharging. You can use any of the AFMU that'll fit (or you can afford) they have different speeds and capacities but can be refilled by use of materials. The only thing to watch out for is the power usage - but they can be switched off until required.

As mentioned extra tanks aren't recommended as they decrease the range that the route plotter uses (it always assumes full tanks) - (there was a pilot who flew all the way to colonia without a fuel scoop - just lots of extra tanks on eco jump mode - he's mad though)

Some pilots don't take shields, some take heat sinks (not needed in my opinion). I always fly with some shields they would be useless in any sort of attack but can save the hull (which is can't be repaired away from a station) in a bad landing. I have also engineered the Power Distributor (Engine Focused)  so I can get a couple of boosts in to escape if attacked. (unlikely from NPC if you haven't any cargo.)

The SRV and mining laser are to collect materials for repair, restock, FSD jumping.

Cool, many many thanks for that!

I'll finish messing about where I am, sort one of these out and get touring. Much cheaper than the Anacondae I'd been looking at!!

Holy heck, I'm in a DBX right now... I might as well just re-jig that and set to!!!

That said, the Dolphin could be fun and I've not flown one of those, yet.

This is the part of the game I fall down on - The Numbers of things, or rather behind the things - So thank you very much for these!!

It's quite good if you can put up with the dolphin engine noises.

I'll have to check... I assume it sounds more like 'Vroom vroom' than a chattering 'Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh' like Flipper? :)

The earlier Asp engine sounds like my Škoda!!

Sounds like you have Flipper in your hold - so "clicks and whistles" -it's weird.

Well finally made to Elite in Exploration.  - the revised payouts for scanning and first discoveries introduced in 2.3 are nice as well - so make sure you scan HMC, ELW and WW.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have been playing again.... bought a first class passenger cabin, and started doing some passenger mission! one of the new features I havent tried yet... not found anywhere that I can buy any of the new ships in yet...

found myself at Sol yesterday by pure chance! Honestly what are the chances ?! lol...

Not been doing much - unlocked a few engineers  - Vatermann (Brandy - drunkard!)  Qwent (Modular terminals) , Palin (unknown Fragments)  and have been flying a Python (Wrecker of Joy). I'm really at a lose end and have been replaying "Warband" instead.

New Beta update out, with rewards for participation...

When did that turn up - did they bother to tell anyone?

I've now seen it on the Forums but I have thought it was worth an email.

Popped up just this morning on the Launcher.

Not that big, really. Bit of network testing and specific tasks, with a couple of decals in return.

Perhaps they don't want absolutely everyone rushing on and overloading the servers?

Good way to test it though ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

New update was published yesterday with added Thargoids ;)

  • 2 months later...

2.4 The Return will be released on 24th September .  With real added Thargoids.

Both my CMDRS are both Elite (in Exploration) second one only took 3 weeks real time ( a few days IGT)  to get there and never ventured further than 500ly from Sol, (ELW, WW,AW and Terraformable HMCs)

Ja, need to get back into space. Life and wife keeps getting in the way, at the minute. I'm still too used to 40hrs gaming a week!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thargoids on toast are now available to those with:

1. Anti-thargoid weapons

2. Xeno scanners

3. Very good skills or

4. A few friends with 1 and 2

5. Luck

I've not even tried it yet. No time these days.

Can't wait for a bit of spare time - I remember the original thargoids well ;)

Looks from the Frontier forum that some people have been playing almost non stop since 2.4 dropped.  I've played about 20min - rest of the time I was downloading the upgrade (it's quite large!).

(btw changed my player name to Redvers Ganderpoke.)

Get two PCs and play with the youngster - never to young to start ruling the universe.
