Elite: Dangerous

Featured Replies

Robigo is the place to get missions -a couple of missions cr2m in half hour. Does involve a bit of travel and harassment by npc. But my run was done in an unarmed Asp.

A couple of pictures of my gorgeous Python. It is an absolute beast of a ship.

  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

you do have to do a bit of a grind to get away from starter position, but it gets better :)

Had a few hours on the Horizons beta..

Its an amazing technical achievement - they are still working out the kinks, but going from supercruise, into orbital cruise and then glide, is pretty much seamless!. Also on the surface, either flying at "normal" speed or in your SRV, you get an amazing sense of scale.. of the planets, and also the ships.

The only thing, is they need to work on the game mechanics for the surface stuff.. at the moment there isnt much to do, and the random spawns are a pain, as it basically boils down to flying around, until you see a purple zone on your radar, land and then get in the SRV - you dont know what the "point of interest" is until you exit the ship -even though it should be easily visible from the cockpit.

Heres a pic of my SRV parked on top of a Cobra mk4.

Should take a leaf out of SciFi books and allow different types of sensor drones or recon drones. That way any planet could be scanned without much time wasting.... They could even incorporate "black" areas when scans can be defeated.... Implying something sensitive or military in nature....

I've been reliably been informed that I'm going this wrong though and can make 10m-20m cr per hour. First have more than 8T cargo.... Take the missions for the common stuff - sell that locally - take more missions - run the missions (takes you back to the bubble) - buy the common stuff back and complete the other missions. Not tried it yet..

Well, finally made it too SAG A.  Now onwards and outwards to join the 65kly (away from Sol) club. My PC is struggling in the core (with Horizons) with the Galaxy  maps - I don't know exactly why - but it kills my frame rates as soon as I open it (worse if I have a long route plotted).

I notice that only a few us seem to be playing regularly now (Neo_VR, Sharkrider).

I'm still enjoying it. Planetary landings give me something else to do when exploring.

Think SAG A might be my next target - 50 mil should be enough to spec out an ASP shouldnt it?

More than enough as you don't need as much A rated stuff - check the explorer section on the frontier forums for lots of Explorer Asp builds.

You need about 15 million I think.

have you guys seen distant worlds? its a massive trek with hundreds involved in a closed group ....https://www.facebook.com/groups/947350785324159/?fref=ts think they leave any day now!

I think I'm on the list to go, but I've some exams coming up so I left early on the 23rd Dec. Currently 28kly from sol only another 37kly to go. Trying to meet up with a loon how is trying to do it in a Sidewinder (no shields - with a range of 21lly).

Slightly expensive (and alcohol fuelled) mishap for me the other night...

launched from a outpost in a kitted out trade-python and 284 tonnes of imperial slaves.. spent a tad too long on the galaxy map plotting a course, and the outpost opened fire for pad-loitering.

that was a 10mil mistake :( :(

Fingers crossed I've not had an insurance claim since my Cobra was killed my another player ages ago - although had a scare yesterday in the SRV when the hull went from 100% to 7% for no apparent reason. (I'd end up in the ship - but i wouldn't be able to collect any more mats as I only tool one.)

Distant Worlds expedition leaves tonight...

I won't be there as I'm  in the system Greeroe IN-A d1-371 some 37,456ly distant.

I've now got an Adder with a couple of bigger pulse cannons and a torpedo launcher. This seems to be enough to deal with the AIs that knock me out of frame-shift although using the Torp is a bit of a last ditch thing since it's so bleedin expensive to replace.

The bigger Adder means I can have a discovery scanner AND a fuel scoop.

Still running little jobs in the core of systems but making more through exploration now I've figured out how it works.

It's a pretty game but I am a bit disappointed that there are really only 3-4 designs of station and every station interior looks the same.

I've not got the New Horizons package but I see it doesn't include populated worlds. I guess that'll be a future update. I can remember landing in cities with the old Elite 2 on an Amiga.

So been reading the recent posts and looks like it has moved on quite a bit, might jump back into the Old Asp and see if I can rekindle the joy of playing the space game.

Remember playing Frontier as well but mine was on an Atari ST.

Some station interiors are different, they have palm trees in a few.

Get Horizons, it completely changes the game.

There are now Alien structures in the game as well.

I was thinking about Horizons. But now I'll probably wait for the next release and it'll get bundled in. I only paid £10 for ED.

Found a ship for sales that was 187M (Federal Corvette). You do have to wonder just how you get to the point of buying that when I'm making 15k from a decent run or 30k from a system map.

Wonder where the game will go as well, will people start to own stations or planets and start to be a bit like an FPS EveOnline

As mentioned earlier, its just a case of the grind.. either use a trade-tool (eddb.io etc) to find a decent 2 way trade route - or do some long distance missions like robigo/sothis etc.

I did a robigo run yesterday in my Python, the missions were 3-8 mil each for only a couple of tonnes and can be stacked, as they are to a similar destination.. a cobra or ASP would have been better for the jump range - in 2 hours i earned about 25 mil.

Also, bigger ships are not good for doing surface based missions (cut the power etc)  - trying to hover a python over a heavily defended base trying to shoot out power generators didnt end well for me lol!!

I think Frontier has stated that this isn't the plan (of player owned stuff)  but they seem to be adding places that correspond with groups and actions of players.

(The X series of games (available on Steam - XBFT, X Tension X2 the Threat etc) had this sort of thing.  I quite enjoyed them until the micro management got too much when you had an Empire and there was no Elite - X-tension is the most like Elite as it has no plot!  I have a soft spot for X2 - mainly as I have my name in the titles :) )

Yeah had a dig about at lunchtime and found exactly that.

I found loads of cool stuff, massive battleships etc , and as Gilly says horizons opens up loads more.... here is one of the planetary settlements :)

its just a case of the grind..

I try to resist the grind - if it's becoming "grindy" I do something else Probably why it's taken so long to get to the position I'm in.

I'm still grinding away. Don't get to spen much time on this which doesn't help in a grindy game. I think I need to start killing people for money.

Thinking about a 3rd ship now. Opinions on the Viper IV? Looks to be a good all rounder.
