  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

How long did that take you?

How long did that take you?

Longer than it should. I set off just before Christmas but was helping a lunatic Australian who is trying to do the same trip in an unshielded Sidewinder (he's nearly there as well.)

It was about 3302 jumps-so just like a trip to the shops ;)

Someone's done the same trip in a 36hour stint.

Someone now done the trip in 24hrs - nutters ;)

What were you exploring in and what was your jump range?

Asp explorer - build Here

Wouldn't add the Heat sinks in the future.

Just left Beagle Point (to be renamed this in 2.1) and crossed the Abyss, which wasn't fun in a 32.5ish Asp - lots of diversions and few jumponium and half tank jumps. Now making my way slowly back to the bubble by going clockwise around the galaxy and back to Sol. Probably take a couple of months.

It was announced on by Frontier in a live stream (the arrival of Ed Lewis (frontier man) ) that all Distant Worlds members who arrived at Beagle Point will get a special (free!!) decal to stick on their ship in 2.1.

Hopefully barring disasters (or the coming of the Thargoids - as I'm unarmed) make Exploration Elite and afford an Anaconda on my return.

Have recently replaced some duff hw, power supply on a machine capable of this. I might have to reinstall and remember how to fly again, third time to return :)

I know I was part of a powerplay... for all I know she's dead and I'm in a foreign power stn. Might have to hope there is a Sidey for sale :)

Not a bad ship - a sidey made it to Beagle point (65278kly from Sol).

( I had hoped they would announce that you could have an uploaded decal on - I think the circular briskoda one would look great stuck on my Asp )

hehe that would of been great indeed.

Maybe even in this thread, very early on I saw a npc briskoda, well I think it was an npc. defo briskoda... I wonder if there must be a seeding alg. for names of some sorts :)

Some of the names were given by the Kickstarter backers. There are some funny / strange ones. I've seen Mrs Trellis of North Wales.

Thought I'd head off into the wide black yonder in my wholly inappropriate Viper 4 with 15ly range.

After a happy few hours I checked to find I'd really barely stepped out the door of occupied systems.

To quote Mr Adams - Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I'm going to keep going until I find something that doesn't have anyone's name on it. At the moment I'm heading up in the assumption that most people will have gone for Sagittarius A or Beagle Point.

Have you equipped a dss and an advanced scanner? You can find unscanned systems 500ly out (well you could when I left in December).

Try going up or down from the galactic plain and keep away from the pretty nebulae.

I really must find the time to get back into this. I had a play last night and as is my custom attacked a couple of space stations (as you do). I must be getting better as my survival time can now be counted in several seconds :)

It's the time required to make a plan and develop it that stumps me at the moment. :(

Nope just the basic scanner. When I had money to buy the advanced scanner I'd run out of power. So I bought a bigger power plant and ran out of money for the scanner.

So I just thought sod it, I'm off for a wander.

I'm heading up from the ecliptic right now, just wondering what the view will be like when I get there.

Even my poor quality scans will pay for some upgrades when I get back then I can do it properly.

is there any chance I can get a really big sucker pad and latch onto someone's ship and get taken somewhere interesting, sort of Remora stylee? Then I can actually advance somewhere and avoid the temptation to fight a space station.

Well don't forget a basic scanner has a range of 500ls so as you travel out from a star keep activating the scanner (honking as it's known) and you'll find more stuff.

Are you still in the Sidewider? If I was anywhere near I would  drop you a couple or three canisters to help you get going.

I've picked u a few extra things just by noticing the parallax (right word?) of a 'star' moving while the others are static.

Jump range is a problem already. Running out of stars in range fairly quickly.

A Viper IV made it to Beagle Point but I think that had an A rated FSD.

http://coriolis.io/ is a good place to test builds. Helps stops silly mistakes with power / Jump ranges etc.

Horizons Explorer Viper Build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/viper_mk_iv/02A4D4A2D2A3D4C------32v643082f2i.Iw18gDCQ.Aw18IxSQ

ED Explorer Viper Build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/viper_mk_iv/02A4D4A2D2A3D4C------32-43082f2i.Iw18gDCQ.Aw18IxSQ

Loses the SRV hanger and gain a bit of range.

Basically for exploring A rated FSD, best Fuel scoop you can afford, smallest A rated Power supply, AMFU (handy) if you have the space, and D rated everything else. Shields and weapons are optional (I like shields!)

Adder and Hauler are the cheapest explorers 3.3m Cr (24ly) and 3.1m cr (27ly).

That's very kind thanks. I haven't really had time to dedicate to it recently though. I would love some huge guns so I can shoot space stations and win :) perhaps I have a problem?

Think you need to find a game with 20km long capitol ships.

I believe I now have a couple of nondescript rocky planets that had been overlooked now marked as "discovered by Commander Olaf T. Hairy".

Looking for a star now. 505ly from start.

Found one. Triple system with no name attached 700ly from home.

Heading back to civilisation now to claim my booty. Plus it was getting old pretty fast trying to make progress 15ly at a time. That's just not enough out in the sticks.

I should get a few more before you come back.

I'm on my way back only 58500ly away ;)

Why have I not heard of this? I've been following star citizen for a while, and also no man's sky, but how have the boy and I missed this? Is it easy enough to get into and what's the mula situation with it, monthly/annual subs cost, buying upgrades, etc?

Cheers

Lennie
