  • Well I've finally collected my RS3.   So I thought I would share my initial thoughts and photos:-           Two RSs together:-   The car is really easy to drive as I was so nervous d

  • Not sure an M2 is ideal for the commute.  Or loading the family in. Also the 1 series can't have adaptive cruise, so not sure about the 2. Wanted something a bit more sensible as I have a quick week

  • Nah, leave him be, the 7R forums will eat him alive, at least here we know where he is and it beats care in the community

Sounds very capable and a bit boring if you want to explore it's character.

Unless the journos just didn't like not being able to turn the ESP off.

What a lot of people would consider typical Audi.

Oh... and a 1.6 tonne A3! :o

So a good spec'd R and R Estate will probably be £7k- £10k cheaper that the RS3 spec'd to suit the individual. Better all round package and VFM imo.

Most probably the Golf R is more "FUN" on my roads around Wiltshire and generally.

R400 still sounding the place to be going forward .

Or may be wait for a Facelifted R with say 350 bhp (Oettinger type uplift) and improved brakes for a couple of grand extra over current prices.( Bit like the Seat Package.)

its hard to say really, just because it doesn't suit one person doesn't mean it wont another. one of the appeals of the RS is the engine. the S3 and Golf R 4pots sound ok but that's it. they are good fun and fast enough for day to day use.

value for money is a question that only the person paying can justify. one is 30ish the other is 40ish. I don't comment on others financials so price is irrelevant to me on this one if you can afford both, get the one you like best.

Kenny,

As you suggest "each to their own"

Tom,

I guess it would be an interesting comparison with the New Facelifted M135i as well.

Having added the bells and whistle packages.

Having added the bells and whistle packages.

It's the potential noise from the 2.5 lump that gets me interested. Especially when paired with the optional sport exhaust. Ummmm could be tasty!

I love a good 5-pot :-)

To be fair you could the same about other cheaper cars too.

I think the Fiesta ST is an absolute bargain and makes fun cars over £20k bad value.

If you are comparing on list price.

Just an example, there other cars out there.

I suspect a number of people spend more for badge reasons and to have something different.

On a £40k+ hatchback you are not going to pass others every day, where I see half a dozen Golf R every week and the same number if ST daily.

Good post.

Just spec'd mine:

Met paint ,improved alloys, upgraded sound system, suspension package and upgrade sat-nav package.

So that's a cool £45500. without discount.

Pays your money and takes your choice

There'll always be badge snobs

Badge snobbery has nothing to do with it?

Badge snobbery has nothing to do with it?

I wasn't referring to you, but for some it will always come into it

Kenny , no point in rising to the bait ,we know where this is going ,saw that on the old topic of Golf R.

Perhaps gadgetman can keep an eye on this one also.

Is fair comment not allowed anymore?

Even if specs and performance are similar, some will always be prepared to pay the premium for the 'premium' brand

Of course. All I meant is that vag don't have an RS3 rival so if u want that level you can got to other brands so snobbery has no place

True.

When I bought my Tiguan, I was also considering the equivalent Q3 but to get the same level of spec it would have not only meant paying quite a bit more, but to be fair I'd also have got a more fugly car. Audi would have 'allowed' me to get certain trim that wasn't available with VW but justifying it didn't win out!

The 'snobbery' would also have meant continued association with some dealers who's perception of their customers left the customers in no doubt about their (the customer's) sub standard position in the world!

Just IMHO of course.

Dealer service I have found is very specific to each branch & not brand.

Having had Skoda, Audi & VW as my last 3 cars I have first hand knowledge of how they look after their customers.

Local to me, the Audi dealer was first class & couldn't have done more to help even when things went wrong.

Skoda were very average, would do the bare minimum, but TBF usually got their in the end.

VW are truly atrocious!!! If anything stops me buying another VW it would be the customer service provided by this dealer. Shame because the car itself is great. I hope Skoda one day makes a Golf R spec'd car, I would be back in a heartbeat :)

Yesterday, for a guide I requested the dealer to give me their best package deal, on a "Basic " spec car under a 3 year PCP with a max / Min deposit running 12000 miles a year.

So now waiting their reply.

Any news on the PCP?

Any news on the PCP?

I'll reply to my own post!!!!

A guy on VWROC has been quoted the following-

RS3

Sepang Blue met £550

Matt black alloys £495

Comfort and sound pack £1,150

All in £42,190

The GFV's are as follows

3 years £25,500

4 years £23,500

APR 6.2%

Payments roughly

3years £560

4years £470

Deposit £4,000 (minimum typical 10%)

The basic way it is working out is for every £1000 in deposit reduce by £30pm or for every £1000 options add £30pm

All figures are rounded up or down just as a rough estimate for anybody interested.

Thanks for that, I haven't had chance to chase up but will do today.

Interesting!

Interesting!

Will be interesting to compare prices you get. At those prices I can't see me jumping at one. A high price to pay for an extra cylinder!

The reviews to date make it sound very average, and comparing it to the Golf R makes it very poor value. I'm fairly disapointed at this point :(
