  • And I've gone right off the RS3 idea. £40k plus for a car that#'s slower than my Yeti and has an automatic box...

  • I'd have one in a heartbeat if I had the money

  • Be it 'chav' or not. This and it's 400 ponies bring a smile to my face. The more I've seen of the mk3 the more I've come around to it. Purely for its driving characteristics. My local ford don't

So the Focus RS MK3 recall FU continues.

The phrase " Couldn't organise a Pi.. Up in a brewery " springs to mind.

All this bad news starting to show up in heavy depreciation

Many under 10000 mile cars with "good spec's" in Autotrader UK at £25000and falling.

So Loyal owners taking a hit in more ways than just recall, etc.

Well, since Ford UK have now announced their "any age / mileage" head gasket recall, it might not be quite so risky....

No way Jose, 3 pedals & a stick = the dark ages for this senior citizen......

If I could find another Golf R at a sensible price I could be interested.

We've driven a few S3's but not too impressed, even tried a vRS 245 Estate but it was soo noisy.

Otherwise I might just wait for the Cupra Ateca instead, I've driven a 190 ps AWD & it was good fun, just needs a bit more go!

So did ford prematurely pull the plug on the RS due to the gasket/recall screw up or was it always intended to be a shorter than usual run?

Meant to be about a 3 - 4 years cycle between RS's apparently - pulling the plug probably a wise financial warranty decision ,as this was the world car volume not old school lower volume.

Not if you can drive it you wont.

Indeed, it’s not like they were operating on a tight budget; they thrown the lot at this car.

Hopefully Raj Nair, the smug little tw47 got fired.  Hard to think a lot of the team behind the RS were given various engineering awards from the motor industry and press.

Really, at my age? Been there, done it & grown up, well sort of...........

I learnt to drive (& then owned) RWD cars back in '66 & fishtailing on wet / slippery roads was par for the course back then.

( Front engines, solid rear axles, 60-40 weight distribution, all made driving a bit more interesting.........)

I like a car that feels as if it's balanced & it will try to keep me alive when I make a mistake, + I'm old enough (& lazy) to realize that

automatics have really improved & manual shifting is (for both of us) a thing of the past.

Ta muchly, but I'd miss the back seat & I've forgotten how to use a clutch.......

FWIW, there's a Honda dealer offering a pre-reg & very loaded Clubsport 5-door, mit DSG for £27.5K.

It "seems" to be the last of a small batch of cars imported from a Wexford (Eire) VW dealer, c/w the 2-year European warranty,

all on Preston registrations & sold by non VW dealerships.

if I go back to the dealer that supplied SWBO's wagon & can get a £5K discount on a new R + a £1500 deposit contribution from VW,

but I'm not sure just how much I want one.

I drove her car yesterday & it's both fun & useful, but it's so noisy inside.  Probably all road noise from its original Bridgestones, but for me it's annoying. Her answer is 1, she's a bit deaf, so it's not a problem for her & 2, she like the music on all the time & it has to be loud so......

As for the Focus, we are both Ford Pensioners & would be very happy to own one, if they made a car that we liked, but they don't.

David, one day you will make a politician - good job your better half doesn't give you the keys to the R that often.

Noise in my R is only a minor problem in my R ,when drive Scarily . No wot I mean Bro.

Hope your search brings you what you want soon. In the meantime enjoy your "Old Fart " driving style.

'Tis an Old Fart driving style indeed, bit mine is the Passive-Aggressive version........

I still have a key to the Golf & it's garage door too, but I'm not going to use it much.

I shall still keep searching for a new toy that's fun to play with but can keep me alive when I make mistake,so wish me luck!

I’ve had many fast fords including the 2.5 RS and the new 2.3. Awesome car the new one.

For me it’s the exculsitivity of the RS brand.

Golf Rs and S3s are 10 a penny. They are everywhere
