It was only a matter of time...

Featured Replies

Two months in with our lovely new vRS and bless her she's kerbed the front nearside Gemini alloy in a pot hole apparently. The wife broke the news over text earlier and I've been quite good about it really but it has ****ed me off for the evening I think ha!

She sounds like  a very nice and considerate woman. Such a shame you'll have to divorce her now.

The damage doesn't look too bad tbh (I've had worse avoiding a collision with a bus). It looks pretty much superficial which should be repairable.

Chris, a 'smart repair' should sort that out. I had something very similar, albeit not quite as deep and that was smart repaired easily.

I'm sure she feels really bad about the ahem, pot hole. I hit one of those too... honest. The funny think was, it was right next to the kerb. At the end of the day, it's a bit of metal attached to another bit of metal. Don't sweat it.

Obviously you've not been married too long as she didn't dare to speak to you? ;)

Text her back and ask her to transfer £100 to your account to cover a smart repair - only fair.

I suspect your wife is a bigamist because i believe she's also married to me from the description   :D

My missus is hopefully just about to pass her driving test (crossed fingers) and she will be let loose on my Blackline *gulp*

She has been well warned about the cumulative insurance excess (inexperienced driver, compulsory excess, voluntary excess etc etc) SHE will have to pay for any claim.

That should focus the mind.

Ha!... I was gonna say exactly the same thing!

Ha!... I was gonna say exactly the same thing!

Wow!

All credit to her for managing to keep up the pretence for so long. If only she could be taught how to drive as well...

  • 1 month later...

Did you get it sorted?

interested too if you got it sorted.  Ive just found similar on the drivers side but there's only me that drives it and I dont go near curbs so can only put it down to some big potholes Ive hit recently :(

Forgive her... and then tell her about Steak & BJ day

But that was last week!

"Chipsaway" did a wheel on our other car. Did a great job too.

My wife kerbed all four of a brand new set of wheels in 4 weeks!

She also did this to MY Superb

and this crease on my Mercedes

and reversed her Octavia into my Skyline damaging the rear bumper (But I negotiated a full respray out of her for that ;))

Bumpers are considered to be parking aids for her

Damn, you really must love her then...

Tbh I've accepted (I think) the fact that mine will kerb a wheel or two eventually, but I know it will be accidental and not just down to the way she drives. Now if she dents my Scirocco...the garden shed is a nice place to sleep this time of year :D *

*disclaimer: I hereby state that I don't endorse in any way keeping wives in sheds!

Mine refused to drive my last 2 L&K's.Suspect it's probably that she didn't want the responsibility with a new car. So got the Vrs auto. Now she definitely won't drive it with a pedal missing....

As posted in the past. Fit Alloygators. I have scuffed these something rotten, especially the rears due to a narrow dropped kerb and battle to reverse into our drive before 1 of the 60+ busses an hour plus taxi's try to wipe me out doing so. alloys still intact, so far.

The OP got off lightly. My last wife reversed into the only obstacle, a tree actually, in 100 metres of available free parking. Weeks later she proudly announced that she'd parallel parked in a tight gap. Later I went outside and realised that the rear off side door was pushed in. The SAAB she'd squeezed past had big rubber rounded bumper ends which had rolled the panel inwards without scratching them. A flat hand tap managed to reverse most of the damage. Then a year later, she tore the back door off our 6-week old Mondeo by driving forwards out of the driveway and turning sharp left with the rear of the car still behind the posts. Even better it was at her parents house. Her father's eyes conveyed a "don't shout too loud because I'll kill you" type of threat. This was topped off by her smashing the door mirror off several months later. As to wheels, finding the hub cap with tufts of grass and the steering wheel badly off centre, was not her fault. It just happened. On divorce my insurance premium rose because I took her off the policy.... go figure.

I had a big chunk of a Golus alloy smashed out after hitting a pot hole on the M5. The hole was right before the metal of an expansion joint. Luckily I have the spare wheel option. The hole on the road was still there two weeks later despite me reporting at the time, can only guess how much damage it had caused by then.

My god!  I hope the blow out didn't cause any more damage and you stopped safe.  Also hope you claimed successfully for replacement.

:o :o

What size of pot hole would you need to do such damage. I drive on routes that have their fair share of potholes and I've hit a few that rattled the car and myselt quite a bit, but I have never had any sort of damage (except a broken suspension spring on the A3, but that was at 180000km). Do you need potholes the size of a Nissan Micra for that damage or was it just bad luck the way you hit it?

It was a fair size, about football diameter (don't know how deep) and the car was doing just under 70 MPH, in rain on a cruddy night at 22:00.. The tyre never deflated, but the force of the impact was so bad I was sure there was damage so I pulled over, and the steering wheel was over to the right about 20 degrees. I never claimed for it as it went through the company car repair scheme (I would of, and have claimed for my own cars when damaged). I was just astounded that despite me reporting it there and then on the emergency phone, it was not fixed two weeks later, and then I called up the highways agency directly. There was no suspension or other damage, the repairers changed the wheel, tyre and sorted the geometry and it was fine after.
