Understanding clever gadgets I've not had before... hints please!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm a newbie here, collected our (new to us) car a week ago.  It goes along and with 20% of the effort I have now mastered 80% of the controls (heater, lights, seats, mirrors etc).  Now for the tough bit - 80% of my effort will now need to go into mastering the remaining 20% of the controls.

One of my immediate issues is phone connections.  I have a Samsung S5 which when on bluetooth pairs up with the car OK allowing me to make a successful trial call (the car has Columbus on it).  However every time I get in the car (with the phone on bluetooth) I am invited to put a 16 digit password in the phone (admittedly the 16 digit p/word comprises a string of 4 numbers repeated 4 times).  The phone doesn't interface with the car without doing this but is there a way to avoid having to put in the password every time I get in the car? I had a knackered old parrot in a previous life and once paired, I don't remember having to put a password in every time.

Next up, cruise control.  I've had this on rent cars and there has been a display showing the 'target' speed you are setting.  I can't find such a display anywhere on the trip computer.  Does this mean you have to set the speed 'target' either when you have achieved the target speed or by tapping on the rocker switch thing, in the latter case you don't know what speed you have set until the vehicle reaches it?  I can live with that if so but if a 'set speed display' is available somewhere I'd like to know where, strikes me that this would be a good way of making sure you don't overshoot your target speed by tapping on the rocker switch too much.

Any other clever hints most welcome (the car has the elegance trim).  Oh and yes, RTFM, I know.  But cascading knowledge down on here seems much more of an attractive option than sitting in the car for 3 hours with the manuals open on my lap, and I'm sure some of you are excellent teachers.....    Thank you.

Reference the digital cruise control speed your dealer can activate this in the maxidot, but they will probably tell you it can't be done. I got my dealer to activate mine when it went in for it's last service. Read this thread, my posts are 3 & 8 (I think) http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/333134-mphkph-phonebook-queries/?hl=%2Bcruise+%2Bdisplay#entry4005604

Post here here explains abit more about the cruise display http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/167070-vcds-and-yeti-5l/

I cannot help you with the phone query, mine connects automatically every time I jump in the car just like your old Parrot system.

The Superb2 cruise control is very basic and you set the target speed once you are driving at that speed. Once set you can vary it small increments using the rocker on the end of the stalk, and that's all the control you have. If the car is an earlyish one it cannot display the set speed, so if you are unsure of that speed then just set a new one when you get to the required speed.

As above. The cruise control is a very basic but efficient (to work) unit that reminds me of the old 16v Saab Turbo I had in the late 80's.

Basically you point, squirt and then set the speed according to the speedometer (or speed on your maxi dot display). Want quicker or slower? Just push the rocker on the stalk up or down...

Nowt fancy....just works :)
