Engine cover

Recommended Posts

So I had to go under the bonnet of the wife's spaceback 1.6 Tdi to fill up her washers and was shocked to see no engine cover, she contacted our salesman at the supplying dealer who confirmed no cover is supplied, apart from being a tad mean on the part of skoda trying to save a few bucks, is it better to have one?

If it is I take it you can buy one as this engine is in many models with engine cover supplied?

I know it isn't going to affect the cars performance or value but it just seems 'incomplete' or backwards as most cars i've owned have had them apart from the first two (both ford escorts)

See this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/305898-rapid-16tdi-engine-cover-missing/page-2

Used ones can be found for about £20 on eBay if you don't fancy a new one.

thanks for this just need to go to the bureau de change for currency conversion..... :notme:  :p

Same here, though I would prefer the 1.2TSI to have a proper big engine cover instead of that little thing it has.

My 1.2 tsi has the cover , first Fabia htp had a cover Mk 2 htp didn't , they look better I think but not a big deal to me.

Yeah, don't think they are leaving the TSI cover off in any instances (it's so small, it costs next to nothing), it's the much larger TDI cover that seems to be falling foul of cost cutting.

The part number for the engine cover you are searching is 03L103925BA or 03L103925BJ (I can't find the difference).

You will probably also need two push-on connectors (part nr. 07C103226) and finally you may also need (but check it first) the Skoda emblem (part nr. 01Z0103940C or 3T0103940, if you prefer it black and glossy).

Well, the engine cover could help reduce noise and keep engine warm or warm up faster during winter, especially for diesel ones :)

When I bought it I had high hopes but TBH it doesn't do anything to reduce noise.

However I believe it probably helps the engine to warm up quicker and keeps it warm longer.

Interesting. No engine cover on our 2014 1.6TDi. I just assumed the previous owner had removed it. I asked the Skoda salesman  but never received a reply.

No engine cover in ALL 2014 1.6 TDis. It's called cost-cutting...

That's better - wish there was an engine cover like that for the 1.2TSI

Has anyone happened to have priced up the diesel engine cover (+ parts) with a dealer (or other stockist for that matter)? Having looked at yours in envy RiderXXL I feel now that I'm driving around without any pants on :peek:

Ooh do cover up [emoji16]

That's what I'm contemplating, only it's justifying any cost on something that will rarely get seen, but taking 'comfort' that it's there :nerd:

Thanks for all the comments, and have gone ahead to sort engine cover for Spaceback (posted some before & after photos in separate post if interested).

List prices incl. VAT were:

Engine Cover - £53.71 (with emblem and 4 rubber seals)
O-ring - £5.34
Also needed to order to small ball posts for the front mountings, which cost a few quid each.

Small discounts should be available...
