Another reason it could be worthwhile having a dashcam?

I can't see the Police being interesting to be honest....

Sad to say but i suspect your right, with the cuts at full swing unless the '' offence '' is infront of them or they are being asked to investigate by someone ' important ' then it will go into the NFA bin.

I don't think you can use this site to promote businesses. You pay to use that site which has no link with the Police.

Above link has nothing whatsoever to do with the Police. It is a Private Enetrprise setup to make money through advertising, sale of dash-cams and subscription.

If the Police really wanted the public to send random bad driving videos they would host their own free to use and entirely anonymous site. They certainly would not ask you to upload them to Youtube.

I've nothing to do with the business!

Thought it was helpful, pertinent and contributed to the discussion!

I guess not!

Hmmm... Dashcams For the greater good ? Profit making businesses to upload your opinion of others driving style, its a danergous path.

If you want a dashcam to provide your insurance company with so-called evidence to assist in your claims thats something I can understand, pretty much anything else to my mind, is a breach of other human rights.

A bit strong maybe well, how'd you like to find a video on youtube of your misses dogging in a carpark ? Extreame example but, where's other peoples opinions stop ?

The tech ain't the problem, its how people use it thats of concern.

I completely agree.

My dash cam is there for insurance protection. If it helps in an accident then that is a plus. I am not a part time law enforcement officer!

I thought about this case for a while. Yes this guy was probably a bad driver but what happens if he was having heart problems or another unexpected illness?

If everyone drove in that mind set rather than thinking what is this t*$t doing then the roads would be much safer.

Who know, it could be one of us falling ill that has his life saved by a thoughtful driver. We are Skoda drivers so our years are numbered!

The problem with any 'clip' of CCTV footage is that it doesn't show what went before... How do we know that the driver may not have ended up in the chevrons due to the actions of someone else's poor driving? Or a mechanical defect with his/her car? All we get is a short clip that presumes he was being a complete idiot...

Sometimes the clip doesn't show what went before simply because the camera wasn't in situ (i.e.in the case of the OP's clip), sometimes the clip is edited prior to publication or circulation by people to show only the bit that they consider relevant... Lots of CCTV we see on the news is portrayed as fact by the media but on further examination the full story tends to be somewhat different...

What went on before doesn't change what he did, which was behave like an idiot....

Agreed. That's why there is a hard shoulder. The one he drives over! The one he should have stopped in if he had a problem!

Another "Darwin Dodger"!

So the current local driver is now moving the original driver who's had a heart attack to hospital becasue he knows its close and this will be faster than any Ambulance whilst driving a car he's not used to and you guys wanna call his driving standards out, a human life isn't any reason for breaking traffic law ? Really ?

Still you wanna use the tech with no understanding of the actual situation, quality, absolute quality.

In fairness, the law does allow for situations like the one you describe, and if this was the case then there really is no reason not to report it still. The driver will be easily able to prove what happened because there will be medical records available to support his claim.

Exactly the same thing happened to me the other with an old chap and his wife at the M42/M6 junction.

Unbelievably, again he didn't see he had done anything wrong.

If you think how many incidents of bad/stupid driving just you Guys flag up on here then times that by many more thousands who will have cameras installed but are on other forums or not on any forums and the amount would be colossal.  So can you imagine how much time that would leave for other Police work?  Bad driving exists everyday and we all see plenty of it. Just because some of it is caught on camera now doesn't make it any easier to prosecute.

As an example of bad driving tonight on my way back home I saw a Paramedic in a rapid response Skoda 4x4 coming towards me and I could clearly see he was on the phone!  OK had I had a camera installed in my mini-bus I could have reported him to his bosses and in fact still could for that matter because if they wanted to they could check his phone history.

Fact is it is everywhere and for me my view of it is I stay aware of what is going on around me as much as I can and try not to become too involved or annoyed by what others are doing and get on with my own driving.  It isn't a cure for anything just my way of dealing with it.

Just because of the example you've given doesn't absolve anyone from driving to a reasonable standard.

As with all these things, the people that want to give the benefit of the doubt are good a pontificating until it's them that's involved in the accident!

OMG, what an ass! So scary when unfortunately older, sorry elderly people don't realise how traffic and driving standards have changed over the years.

I drove that same stretch today and now when I next drive it, I'm going to cringe

Personally I wouldn't have slowed down, I would of moved over to the left of him, providing you wouldn't of been cutting up that artic which I don't think you would of been had you maintained the speed.

Another couple of reasons, When I parked up at a secure airport carpark. It showed me exactly what time they moved it to and from the storage area, and how it was driven. Peace of mind.

Took car for service, could hear them trying to locate an intermittent door opening fault. Also showed the test drive to check my cruise control out, plus times of tasks. Even got a wave from a mechanic.
