Can't remember to put boot lid down aarrgh....

Featured Replies

It's the first time I've driven a car where the boot lid doesn't lift and lower automatically and I'm driving myself potty leaving it up. I might even have to get my Yeti out of the garage again and go back to driving that  ;)  .

Has anybody solved this major problem yet?

Ahem, what is the problem?

You must have lived a very priveliged lifestyle , and not been driving long Does your valet have to open your car door too

That poxy luggage compartment lid does pee me off regularly! I've thought about making a combined boot light and reminder light with a box of LEDs and a tilt switch.

yea im not a fan of this

There is a mod on here somewhere or am I thinking of the other forum? Took me a week to get used to it can't say I forget to put it down these days now that my brain is used to it.

I think it was Stormchaser who did the mod, check out his project thread.

Yes and a very easy mod too using MK4 Golf parts all for about £6 and looks OEM.

This will be the cheapest mod you'll ever need. I bought it, and it's never been an issue since.

It has four velcro patches on it, stick it to the underside of the parcel shelf. It's a nice light-hearted message, but you'll soon start remembering to put it back down when you see it staring you in the face! :D

I was pretty taken back when I read this, I thought you meant the actual boot and not the parcel shelf (some people will do anything to have a DIY spoiler ;))

Take note of this Skoda !!

Have a piece of cane handy to the front seat & just poke the lid down as necessary. Simple & very cheap.

In a word - Me

In two - My brain

I was speaking tongue in cheek really but I keep leaving it up and then just as I'm about to pull away and look in the mirror I see it stuck up in the air.

I'll have a look at the solutions that have been suggested.

 I use a walking stick and keep it in the boot. I was thinking that I should keep it in the car instead.

I sit the wife in the back

Simply Clever

I can pop the shelf back into position from the driver's seat, and I'm not particularly tall  :D

I am always forgetting to put it back down, but luckily I have just enough reach to push it back down from the front! Im either stretching to push the lid back down or wind the passenger window down!  :D

You'll learn it soon. After couple of weeks you just don't forget anymore. Not an issue really.

A problem we've all shared. As others, I have things to prod, slide seat back, stretch to push it down.

The boot light is a bigger bug bear. I tried magnetic proximity ones, they kept falling off. Going to go with velcro to the parcel shelf... plus point is if it's up, I'll see the light. Although then it's not lighting the boot... Feel some lego engineering coming on.

Yeah, the lack boot light is probably a bigger pain for me.

The hooks for hanging shopping baskets are genius, first car I have had with them in! But trying to hang your shopping on them when its getting a bit dark. Its enough to make a grown man cry...  :D

the no boot light thing seems really daft, I can't imagine it would cost that much to have one! They should have a lighting pack option!

We just removed it and stored it with my Yeti parcel shelf behind the TV in the spare room.

Problem solved.( The trick is remembering to replace it when you sell the car...) :giggle:

One shoelace and a document clip sorts the hatch cover issue.

Just do the MK4 Golf mod. £6 and 4 x 6mm holes. Job done. Looks OEM. [emoji106]
