Your Old Cars

The P10 platform was a massive global success for Nissan back in the early 90's. I think it replaced the Blubird as the humble saloon/hatch of the range. A million taxi drivers will swear to its reliability. The sports versions ( in saloon and hatch styles I think) were stunningly capable drivers cars. Nissan europe campaigned the saloon eGT in the BTCC series before replacing it with the later P11 platform (now called simply GT and also a successful car).

We had moved to France and I stumbled across mine at a dealer in Toulouse in 1999. It was a 1993 car, one owner and 53k Km's only from new. As I mentioned, I still have it. It needs a bit of TLC but I have had it serviced at the same nissan dealer and aside from standard oils and fluids it has run like a swiss watch. 330,000kms now and still going strong. The design has aged really well and to my eyes it is old school 'Skyline-esque' in its DNA.

Buy one now if you can find one. They are still cheap but I reckon it has future classic status.

Thanks for explaining this, ( I think it replaced the Blubird as the humble saloon/hatch of the range )

The "Bluebird" that I owned engine wise was pretty good, it used to embarress a few cars at the notorious traffic light drag strip

Shame that every time it rained another rust hole appeared   :D

That Peugeot is lovely.  I've always liked those but never saw a good one when I was in need of a car.  Seems like you have a thing for Fords too.

Anything below GT spec was bl00dy awful. Work colleague had an ordinary one as a company car and was delighted when it was written off when hit by a VW beetle - the original type - in a car park shunt.

You take that back!

I loved my 1.6 LX :D

ok, so it didn't have much, wasn't that fast... but it was a simple car that just ran. (A/C would've been nice at least though).

Fond memories of replacing the radiator myself on dad's driveway :) There was room to work under the bonnet and things were just so much simpler.

Passed my test in 1964, shortly afterwards I was given my first car, a1937 Morris 8, 2 seat tourer

1953 Ford Anglia, the first year of the 100E

1958 Morris 1000 Traveller - filled it with lots of RAF mates as very few had cars

1961 Frogeye Sprite - lost all my mates..........

1970 Vauxhall HB Viva SL - lovely car for its day, and my first relatively new car

1974 1300 Allegro.........nuff said

Then company cars came along, Mini, Talbot Sunbeam, 2 x Talbot Horizons, Maestro, 2 x 1.6 Montego, 2ltr EFi Montego, Vauxhall Carlton CD, Rover 827 Sterling, Honda Accord, Rover 75 (the best car to date, and still going strong at 235000 miles owned by my son-in-law), Saab 9-3 Convertible, Mercedes C220.  Currently 2015 Lexus IS300h

Mrs baxlin - Citroen Dyane replaced the Allegro,

Fiat Panda (!)

Nissan Micra

Renault Clio

Fabia 1.2

Currently Fabia Elegance Estate.

Bikes? Lambretta, '58 Norton model 50, - 25 year gap - Yamaha XS400, Honda VT250, Cx500, currently have Cx engined Morgan-esque 3 wheeler.

Sorry about the long boring list, but I've had cars for over 50 years.........

I second that, there are a few names there that  I had forgot about  I bet that wish that you still had the 1953 Ford Anglia :D

Possibly not, I bought it as a previously written off car for £35, it used at least a pint of oil for every gallon of petrol, pretty blue smoke came out of the crankcase breather, leaking into the car, so I attached a length of garden hose and exited it out the back of the car through a bit of tail pipe!

Twin exhausts, 1965 style.........

Mind you I didn't do badly as a sixth form grammar schoolboy, having a car and a motorbike (the Norton) both legal and paid for. Cost me my A levels, though, as I was on stage several evenings a week in a band. Still am a bit of a rocker, sadly an old rocker nowadays....

Nothing wrong with hose pipe oil fumes exiting Malcolm, same with our VW Beetle, this had an oil bath air filter with the crank case breather going in as well, took it off, fitted a k&n and rerouted the breather pipe (garden hose) straight down to the ground, job done it ran sweet as a nut :D

Whilst working at a property a couple of years ago the owner had a green 100E in the garage,I said that model was my first car ,he told me to open the bonnet and inside was a Subaru WRX turbo,I had also had one of those but not in a 100E,the word shoehorn came to mind.

I must admit the words brakes, suspension and rust came to my mind, but I assume it was done properly, making it possibly the ultimate Q car........................... :envy:

1994 Polo 1.0 Fox (called Snarf)

1995 Polo 1.3 CL (with an 5th gear, 1.0 only had 4!)

1995 Escort 1.9 TDi LX (felt like a massive upgrade, all sorts of rust and electric problems but really liked it)

Few shared cars with SWMBO:

2004 Ka 1.3 Zetec

2000 Ka 1.3

2000 Punto 1.2 (lemon!)

2000 Opel Vectra 1.8 TDi (another lemon!)

Then the last few of mine when she got the Octy:

2001 Escort 1.9 TDi (not as good as my old Escort)

1997 Passat 1.9 TDi (a bargain, still solid at 200k but a ton of electrical problems)

Then the Mustang Slayer! Which I love, but would still like a vRS at some point.

Not in the same league as the cars listed thus far, but my last car was an Astra VXR and I really miss it ha. Had too many problems with it in the end, and was no longer big enough for hobbies, so let it go before it was worth nothing. Love the vrs that replaced it though :D

1986 - Mitsubishi Colt  (first car and only one not from new)

1987 - Mitsubishi Lancer saloon and not an evo!

1989 - Mitsubishi Lancer liftback

All had the same 1.5 petrol engine.. boring  :dull:  that said, I have just realised I have only ever been caught speeding 3 times... once in each of these cars, all in Germany.. but I was young then..

1992 - VW Vento 2L (only car I have had an accident in... drove into another Vento on an American Airbase in Germany)

1994 - Peugeot 306 xrdt (1st diesel)

1999 - Octavia SLX Mk1 1.9 TD

2005 - Mk2 Octavia 2L TD elegance (first remap - revo)

2009 - soon to be old FL Octavia vRS 2L petrol... (as per sig)

2015 hopefully! - just ordered S3 sportback

First car after passing my test was a Skoda Estelle 120 LSE bought by my Dad for £170 and it was at least 3 different colours.

My Dad used to work for health and safety and knew of a place (from inspecting factories) where they did brush on paint for cars (tekaloid) so we painted it blue.

Brilliant car, I absolutely loved it.

After that in no particular order I were

2 x MK1 Ford Fiesta 957cc

MK2 Fiesta 1.6 diesel

Rover 100 Rio (inherited when my Grandad died)

H reg Peugeot 309 diesel - rather liked this one, had 170k on the clock when bought

MK3 Ford Fiesta 1.1

W Reg Ford Focus TD

Volvo 460 TD

MK3 Astra 1.4

Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8 GLS - felt very posh at the time being a GLS model

1997 Rover 414 Si

1996 Citroen Synergie TD

2004 Renault Scenic 1.4 - Without doubt the worst car I have ever owned

2007 Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6

Ford Escort saloon TD - 1 of my favourite cars.

2004 Seat Toledo 1.9 TDi SE (130) probably edges out the escort and my current Octy as favourite car

Current car 2009 Octavia 1.4 TSi DSG.

I'm sure there are others, the list doesn't seem long enough.
