  • The Museum opens at 10.00 in winter, which fits in quite nicely with me reading the Sunday Times in bed with a cup of tea then taking a leisurely drive across from St Neots(ish). Sounds good. Anyone

  • Denis, Howard frequently baits me, and lets face it, he's a master bai.... err. you get the idea

Blackbird as in Lockheed SR-71?

Always wanted to see one of those beasts......

Hope this means, what I think it means... :D:thumbup:

More the merrier, and I always have wanted to see an SR-71 too.

Yes, and I belive it is the only 1 outside of America too.

Me too! Me too! Me too! Will the listmaster please add me?

(Sorry for the over-excitement - I've only just found that I'm free :D)

Stu: do you reckon it can be done in two hours? What sort of time are you leaving?

Speaking of journeys, will anyone be leaving for Duxford from somewhere along the A303/M3/M25 from Heathrow around to M11 junction and then up? If anyone's up for a small convoy, say so.

(I heard someone talking of Stanstead?)

I'm off of the M25 just before the M11 clockwise, i'll be up for meeting and then a mini cruise although it will be a bit short for me. By the way the M25 roadworks have finished.

:speaker:  :speaker:

I am off the M25 at Junction 24, but will most probably be getting on at J25 as I will be picking SWMBO up hopefully!

Well then it's a Furby threesome!, we all might as well meet up at J26 as it is quieter then J25/A10 and on the way if we are having a mini-cruise. especially if with the beast of dartmoor coming this way with Jason behind the wheel. :vamperic:

if Jason had brought a lime green fabia we could have gone in fancy dress as a set of traffic lights

Ok I apologise if this question is answered somewhere in all the threads, Ive had a quick Trawl but cant find it.

There is a reosnable chance I can make this so have any Times been agreed for ariving.

If its not already set in stone can I please add a vote for not "really early" as I have a heavy day/night before

Stuart

THe times are in the duxford - times thread on this part of the forum, but everyone seems to be trickling in from about 9:30 ish :terminato

Stuart[/quote']Stuart - 9:30 to 11:00 seems to be the 'window' we're going to use to hang around in the car park.

I'm aiming to get there earlier than 9:30 if I can make it, so if anyone is thinking about getting an early start, they can come and keep me company :D

Im figuring on 2 hours being about right from Canterbury - although my leaving time & journey time are only as predictable as my baby daughter :langel:

The visitors' car park is locked when the Museum is closed, which begs the question as to what time the gates are opened. I didn't manage to get a firm time from the Museum just now. The first person I spoke to said 10.00am but Admissions said the car park is opened sometime between 09.45 and 10.00 - which means there isn't much point in arriving until just before 10.00. I also asked about being able to leave and re-enter the Museum during a visit. This can be done since the admission ticket is for a day visit, hence those that need to go an polish their cars or check the oil etc will be able to do so. :D

I'm now going to kip for an extra hour or so on that morning. I was going to leave at 5am, but then I also don't want to be sitting on some B road waiting to get in the car park. :D

( and I won't be checking my oil or doing any polishing... wonder if Des will be bringing his duster? )

Denis,

Firstly - thanks for checking out the car park and access - it's a little too far for me to just pop down there for a look :)

You don't happen to know of anywhere nearby that would be a good place for early-comers to meet up, do you? :D

Sorry, Steve. Having found that the car park is ideal for finding each other I didn't bother to go into the village. Perhaps the member who lives in the area and is coming could advise? Birchanger Green Services at Stansted is 16 miles down the M11 so that really is a non-starter for those not coming up the M11.

I wouldn't mind meeting at Birchanger for any time pre 9:40, and then running the last 10 miles en masse. Anyone else?

Or, I suppose, I could just time it so that there is NO WAY I could arrive early and be left circling the museum for 20 minutes :smile-l:.

We could just come round to your place, Denis... either that or find the local circuit and just circle til the carpark is open.... :D

Seriously though - let's say the meet time is 9:45-10:00 until 11 then...

Tell yer what... :D

If I'm coming up the M11 around 9.30 I'll pull into Birchanger green services and wander around aimlessly looking for other Skodas, and see what happens... If no-one's there, I'll just wander up to Duxford. Good idea for a meeting spot though - seems ideal to me!

 You are a very brave man Jason - i've got visions of you chirpily introducing yourself to a variety of very confused random Skoda driving OAPs / families in the services ....

"Hi, im Jason ... you know Devonutopia from Briskoda .... er sorry don't worry, mistaken identity"

"Weirdo ... now b***er off before I call the police" etc etc

I think I'd recognise the type. i.e four vRS' parked up next to one another, one with the bonnet up and all four owners crowded around it peering in. :D

I shan't be approaching any random Skoda owners as I could be accused of being slightly mad! I won't do it until I see the type, and I make eye contact and they recognise me. (most people know my car by now)

Dare I say this, there is a McDonalds in the opposite direction to the museum on the other side of the M11 (past a few round-abouts). May I just say this does not give members an excuss for gratuitous blaring of steroes and hand brake turns in the car park. ;)

Des

Thanks for that info, Des. I will pop in there and have a couple of large milk shakes before making my way back to the Museum for just before 10. Oh, and I will keep a lookout for vRS owners doing fast drive-throughs for effect. Be sure to buy cold drinks, chaps and chapesses. :)

Completely standard - 164.6bhp / 170.4lb/ft (ie +14.6bhp and +15.5lb/ft)

You must be mad! you're twenty four and own a diesel Skoda, i thought i was bad when i got my 1.4 elegance at 21. My only saving grace is i swapped the death trap (other reasons, not car) for a vRS.

If you want to meet on the way to Duxford so that you are not the only bloke who looks like a nutter (walking about looking lost) then i don't mind as i could meet you just off of the M25 so no time lost either
