Octavia 3 DRLs flashing at same time as indicators VCDS tweak

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a Micro-CAN and am playing around with some VCDS tweaks in my MY16 Octavia VRS.

Does anyone know the coding for enabling the front DRLs to flash at the SAME time as the indicators as in the video below?  I've only managed to find tweaks for flashing in the opposite way.

Any comments appreciated!

Cheers

Looks like a really good idea. I don't know why it isn't standard

Thanks mate

In the UK all indicators must be yellow by law. LEDs flashing at the same time as indicators will direct the interest of Mr Plod

So is it possible to alternative between indicator - led - indicator etc as that could be interesting? Where's Andy when he's needed!

That's pretty simple to do, I'll post it up later.

So basically, when indicating, you want the DRL to go off when the indicator is off?

Mine do that John, look rather cool

I think a video is required then Andy!

Assuming of course that you can still hobble/shuffle outside to get it done! :notme:

DRLs flash in phase with indicators

This will cause the LED DRL to go off when the indicator bulb is off, and go back to the brightness it was before when the indicator is on, so flashing in phase with the indicator

With the cuts to front line policing I'll bet my pension no one will get stopped for this mod!

I appreciate you are only showing others that this can be done Andy but am I alone in thinking this is a bad idea?

surely you want the indicator to stand out from the DRL (hence why Audi etc make it std that they DRL dims when the indicator is on... something I activated on the Yeti)

Seeing as standard is the DRL is on when indicating this doesn't make it stand out less.

As for if it is legal in the UK I don't know, up to owners if they do it or not.

Live dangerously Martin!

Easy for me to say with no mqb car yet. ;-)

Fair point Andy, which is why I changed the Yeti straight away ... and it looks better IMO.

lol John (have you ordered one yet?)

Fortunately mine will use the same LED for the indictor as the DRL - it just changes colour

Great work - thanks for the speedy solution!

That gives the opposite effect to what you wanted, you want the in phase post

Yeah I realise that now!  Was a bit tired last night! :)

Can't imagine that is why, because they dim on cars with led indicators, so the orange is more visible over the DRL

And as another poster said - flashing DRLs - illegal.

Is it possible to get them to either dim or be off altogether when the indicator is in use?

Yes, already documented in the O3 VCDS sticky.

As I said, the Audi A3 and a4 and a6 with Xenons/LED headlights have LED indicators and when the indicator is on, the DRL white LED dim, so that the orange LED can be seen.

They flash bright/dull 180 degrees out of phase with the indicators. This was standard from the factory behavior.

....and on a car with DRLs halogen light? Is it possible?
