Adjusting Windscreen washer jets

Recommended Posts

Yeah they are a bit weak ... On my old Scout they were fan jets and did a great job. Superbs seem a bit lame. My rear jet also needs adjusting. Not looked at it yet ....

My nearside is fine, my offside is less good. Only remaining complaint, dealership tried adjusting, no improvement. At one point they had it hitting so far up the screen it blew all the wash over the top.

Somewhere there's a way to get this right, perhaps a tool is required?

are the washer jets a mist/fan type or just a signal squirt of water per each side or a twin squirt per each side?

Normally they can be adjusted with just a fine tweak with a pin...

You can get a tool - (not sure this will work on a S3 till i see the nozzle)

Depending on the nozzles, they are defined set ups..

My tip or should i say pref,  is just to get them peaking at around 75% on the screen, (or if dual, 75% and 50%) then airflow will bring the range down the faster you drive, so at motorway speeds you will get a central coverage area.

That's a fair old tool for setting washers jets, I've never seen one of them before I must say.

+2 I'd assumed they were set like that on purpose, still seems to push the water around ok.

Seems to me that the nearside gets a lot more pressure than the offside for some reason.

Maybe they are 'sided' and therefore set a preference to our European Brothers  :notme:  :notme:

Adjusting the screenwashers is no problem, it is the same as the MKII a smal torx/allen head screw. At least it is on my 190 L&K. Possible reason for aparant extra pressure on the near side could be that the tank and pump are on the nearside.

At slow speed it could be a little higher on the drivers side, but raising mine sends too much over the roof at 60/70 mph. The new jets have 3 jet sprays per unit not the full fan spray as the MKII. I still have new spare MKII units and if I do not get used to the new ones I will swap them.

I have the same problem with my SE Business. The drivers side's spray is considerably less powerful than the passenger side. It is also aimed too low, seemingly like it is set incorrectly - seems like others experience matches mine.

how exactly does that work? Does the position of that screw alter the position up the windscreen?
