Major Engine Issues

Featured Replies

Basically, stupidly the last owner of my vehicle cable tied the bottom cover of the timing belt on, this cable tie give in and got caught in my belt.

The belt jumped a few teeth and has caused 2 bent valves.

The problem I have is, I am paying a garage to do the work and they are worrying me about if they fix the whole top end and the rod is bent then it was all a waste of money..

but another problem I have is... if I buy another engine will I get the same issues soon?

Any help very very very appreciated as im clueless with this sort of thing...

Thanks!

Jake

A reconditioned engine might be cheaper in the long run, depends on your labour rates , I would button them to costs to repair your current one, not just suck it and see!

How about these guys and in York !   http://bestenginesyork.co.uk/#

spoke to them yesterday! its £190 for the head fixing/new valves. but them im worried about my piston and my rod...

Did you ask about pistons  and rods, id get them to do the lot or is that beyond your budget

A rod shouldn't bend just from hitting valves!

Google a conrod and look at the size/ strength of it,then look at valves which have a stem of circa 5-6mm and you'll see why the valves bend so easily! ;)

You might bend a rod if the valve snapped off and went sideways across the top of piston, but even that would be unlucky.

Rods usaully bend when the combustion chamber gets full of coolant or something else that won't compress.

Just get the head sorted and you'll be fine imo :)

I have replied to your other, identical post, don't worry about your piston and rod, get them to fix the head and put it all back together properly, it sounds like a good price to me.
