Just completed the above on my MK2 FL Elegnace and wanted to add what I'd learnt.

 

Early FL Elegances came with electric folding as standard but this appears to have changed in around 2010. This means that my MY12 was missing them... It did however have puddle lighting and therefore the correct door modules to support folding mirrors:

 

Address 42: Door Elect, Driver - Part No SW: 1T0 959 701 AA

Address 52: Door Elect, Pass. - Part No SW: 1T0 959 702 S

 

If your FL Octavia has the above modules all you need is wing mirrors (with electric motors) and a mirror switch with the folding position.

 

A passenger side mirror came up on eBay with a memory module for reverse dip. Fitting was easy enough:

- Remove door card (maybe four screws?)

- Remove trim behind the mirror

- Disconnect mirror loom and undo one screw to release the mirror from the door

- Fit new mirror!

- Recode the door module for folding mirrors (if reverse dip is also being fitted, the BCM also needs coding)

- Check it works (VCDS output test)

- Reassemble the door

 

Sourcing a drivers side mirror was proving much harder and the dealer price is ~£240.

 

Fortunately, Eddie-NL came to the rescue as he had a spare LHD passenger mirror (with motor) which is the same side as a RHD drivers mirror that I needed. This presented it's own problems as the angles are different to accommodate the differing drivers positions in RHD or LHD cars. Stripping both mirrors down and removing the circlips showed a simple solution. The base which attach the mirror to the car set the angle so by swapping the LHD base with the RHD base from my car all was good.

 

I've attached a couple of pictures to show the differences between passenger/drivers bases and motorised/manual folding mechanisms. Just as a word of warning, removing the circlips can be quite a task, even more so on the manual version as the spring fitted is much stronger. With the help of a vice and patience it is possible to get them out and back in again.

 

Fitting the drivers side was pretty much the same as the passengers side with a couple of extra screws. To get it working from the remote I needed to redo the min/max limits for all windows and fold/unfold the mirrors a couple of times with the engine running.

 

The final issue was that the puddle lights did not illuminate when the mirrors were folded (worked normally when unfolded).Turns out this is part of the door mirror EEPROM and can be changed via ODIS-e or VCP (not VCDS). It's a ten minute job to reprogram the two door modules and now I have puddle lights regardless of mirror position. I have no idea what the stock behaviour is so if anyone with factory fitted electric folding mirrors with puddle lights can let me know the stock behaviour that would be great!

Nice one. Just don't understand why Skoda didn't make them more widely available as an option. Would have thought they'd be quite popular.

Do they fold in on the key if you hold the lock button?

Yes, they fold in with a long press of the lock button on the key fob.

If the lock button is used to fold them, they unfold when the drivers door opens. I'm pretty sure they can also be set to unfold with the ignition if preferred.

I think your tiguan has gen4 door controllers where as the FL Octavia has gen3 so fold on long lock press just worked with no additional coding.

If you know of any gen3 cars (earlier tiguans?) where it doesn't work, it might be fixable by editing the door controller eeprom. Not something VCDS can do I'm afraid...

On the Tiguan it is not an already coded option on GEN4 modules and took some work as it is not so straight forward as ticking a box in VCDS but it is doable. Most GEN3 Tiguan owners will swap-out with SEAT modules.

You probably would have noticed the motors when you fitted them, they really aren't discrete once the cover is off.

 

The coding should be under the drivers and passenger door mirrors, I think it's +4096 to the current code but I'm sure the tooltip will confirm :)

thanks for that, ill plug it in and have another look,i doubt they are folding but do you know if the reverse dip is part of the mirror or the door controller?

i assume the tooltip is the sort of drop down menu in vcds ?

Yup, the tooltip should appear if you hover over the coding as I don't think this modules support the lcode helper.

 

For proper reverse dip, it's a different mirror motor in the wing mirror. It has 7 pins rather than 3 if I remember correctly. If you have the modules mentioned in the first post it'll work :)

It's 7 wires on the multiplug that connects to the mirror motor in the wing mirror.

 

At a guess it'll be between 9 and 11 on the multiplug to the door controller - 7 for the mirror motor, 2 for the puddle light, 2 for the indicator, they might share grounds.

 

It would also need coding on the passenger side door module, again the tooltip should explain what to add.

if the mirror glass motor has a blue plug the you have a motor for mirror dip

 

add 256 to the door controller coding

and tick the box in the bcm for mirror down

I have a 2012 VRS I'd like to add this too. I think I have the base door modules, do the powerfold modules plug straight in (plus coding of course) without the need for additional wiring?

Yup, no extra wiring required.

The stock setup is mirrors fold with long press of the lock button then unfold when the key is in the ignition. The puddle lights dont work if the mirrors are folded in. I might take a trip to the dealers now i know the coding can be changed for the lights to work when folded ive looked on vcds several times for the option this would explain why i couldnt find anything.

It's not just a coding change, it requires editing the EEPROM of the two door controllers directly so I'd be surprised if they had the knowledge or inclination to try it :(

I second this, used the exact same door controllers / modules in my FL VRS and sourced the door mirrors from ebay that already were folding mirrors. It was a straight swap no wiring or modifications required to the driver side mirror. Once fitted coded the mirrors and worked perfectly.

Is there an easy way to check module part numbers via VCDS?  For furture reference I'd like to know if I could do this mod without having to pull the door cards off unnecessarily.
