Tracking with Lane Assist

Featured Replies

After hitting a pothole last week that damaged the rim of the wheel, I would like to have the tracking alignment checked.

My Octavia has Lane Assist, which complicates matters.

My nearest dealer is unable to do it, as is my tyre provider of choice.

Just wondered if anybody was aware of any Volkswagen Group dealers who able to carry this out in the Midlands region?

Thanks

Ted

Take it anywhere that uses laser alignment, or better still, Hunter Tracker.

Mine has lane assist, and I had to get my tracking done after hitting a pothole too...bloody things!!

Just took it to National, boggo laser alignment and sorted for 35 English.

Why can't your dealer do it?

That was my thinking too! Lane Assist works via a camera and a steering position sensor. Adjusting the track rod ends won't have any effect at all!

As long as the steering angle is monitored and set to zero before the tracking is done!!

Yeah of course! But that should be standard practice when doing wheel alignment - they clamp the steering wheel.

Not standard most places just drive the car on to the bay and centre the steering wheel by eye, OK for a normal car but this is not centring the steering angle sensor to zero, it needs to be plugged into a diagnostic tool at the same time and set the steering so the angle sensor is at zero, if the wheel is totally off then something is bent and needs new parts.

Sorry, I cant recommend a dealer but do you have any Audi dealers close by you could call?

They use the same systems & should have the necessary tools as they have had these features for longer than Skoda.

Just had my alignment done again...hit another sodding pothole.

Standard laser alignment - the car is fine, so is the lane assist and ACC.

Just get it done at any competent, well known tyre place / auto centre.

HiQ any good with this? I'm pretty sure I used them before and reckon they have/use hunter. Actually I need to do it on mine

I used National Tyres - £35 in London, which isn't too bad. Kwik Fit wanted £65 just to do the front wheels with Hunter, and for a minor adjustment that's just ridiculous!

As long as the windscreen camera remains as per the original factory calibration, if your steering set-up is returned to its original recommended limits why should you need to have it calibrated again?

Exactly

I know this is a bit old but here’s what I know. I work for a well known reputable company We  fit tyres, do mots and repairs, servicing and tracking etc.

we have a relatively new tracking system however we are unable to do tracking if your car has lane assist,

I asked the regional manager if we would start doing tracking on cars with lane assist and apparently we would not be doing it any time soon if ever. He said that when the company looked into it it wasn’t just a case of adjusting the alignment like normal it has to be done using dealer diagnostics  as we just use high end generic diagnostics which won’t do this and to be able to do this we would need to have dealer diagnostics for each manufacturer which large as the company is they just won’t invest in something as the cost is too high and the return is too small.

it seems to be another thing for manufacturers to keep the business to themselves and charge what they like rather than the customer choosing to come to us or another similar garage to have it done in most cases the same day while you wait.

I think this is probably going to be the same across all of the major high street garage brands in addition to the the smaller local garage who just cannot justify the expense of the systems required.
