Scum

Featured Replies

After 2 years of clean motoring, I find this on my door panel:

Could this be a road damage?

(its 7/8 cm in length)

Looks like scum to me...

Looks like it should be this - and doesn't look like road damage :(

why do people have to do this!!

I don't think it's straight enough to be intentional, personally. If you were deliberately keying a car i would expect a straight line due to the force you'd put into it.

Caveat: I have no experience of keying cars. User experiences may vary.

It doesn't look accidental to me and I'm not too sure that scum is a strong enough word for the person that did it either.

Slow, deliberate, not straight.  Bar stewards!  :(

I've had similar scrapes on previous motors from driving the narrow Devon lanes here - often having to pull in to let people past and catching sticking out branches (i'm a little more careful with the octavia though!). But this probably more of an angle than that type of scratch would cause, and you probably know you've been driving narrow lanes and would hear if you did this then.

Did you see my recent post about the same and repair method?

Honestly, mine wasn't as bad as this, but the principle should be same. Plus its white so really shouldn't be too hard to get colour right etc.

If you are bit practical sort and can follow some instructions it could be possible to do this for <£100 my friend.

Less if you compromise on what you use, but I'd suggest you need a minimum of the paint, mix of abrasives from 3m, and finesse-it polish.

I brushed mine into the crack carefully with art brush and just used a can. I had an idea to mask off quite close to the scratch actually so you end up with overspray only only the tape so less buffing down but to be honest the scratches I have were so small compared to yours, only paintbrush was needed.

It certainly does not look like road damage, it will be some idiot accidental or not, the person who did it knows they have. Any good body shop will fix that, I say body shop as depending on its location it may be difficult to hide hence it's better to get it perfect as it will depress you every time you look at it.

It could have been a stick or a shopping trolley that did it as well had both on the last one, damage was similar to that.

Its white, its the simplest colour of all to fix.

If I can manage it on black, probably the worst for dirt and blemishes that white should be possible and almost anythings better than just leaving it an eyesore.

To be fair though it does need a detailed eye, a careful hand and a careful approach with right material, just saying its not impossible to fix yourself if you go about the right way, and with care !

I'm pretty sure ( and I'm an amateur at this) that I could take that and I'm pretty sure you'd have to have a bloody good look around if you didn't know where the damage is. Possibly if done right you might not even see any trace at all.
