I couldn't find a wheels thread. There should be a wheels thread. Show me some badass wheels on some Fabias, guys.

Currently wanting to switch my gigaros for something else and need inspiration. While the gigaros are pretty cool (just wish I had the black ones instead of silver/black), I thinking of stepping down to 16" 'cause the roads around here are abysmal.

Borbet F on mine. Love them :-)

Thanks for the input. Sorely tempted by some Oz Alleggerita at the moment, just not sure how the titanium tech color looks in the flesh.

Not a fabia, but I really dig this look

What is the fattest, meatiest tyre possible on an mk2 I wonder

If you go 16" rims with the correct offset 225/45 R 16 should be OK.

I think Minilite Copies / Lookalikes in a 16" and that size tyre would look good on a Fabia.

For fat tyres & that look you are going to need 15's really.

235/45 R15 maybe

(possibly not the Pirelli P7 Corsa Classic @ £345.12 each.)

Choices of 225/45 R 15 are at more affordable prices.

How would ride be in tyres that wide though, wouldn't noise and tramlining increase?

Audi put the 140 PS Audi A1 Sportline Competition  on 235/35 R 18's

Same platform and suspension as a Fabia vRS

I borrowed & tried a set on a Fabia vRS and they were OK, but that was not on a lowered vRS.

Wide tyres on the road, but not Fat Tyres.

Not too easy to find 245/45 or 225/50 r15 tyres. Would be a pretty expensive experiment in case it ruins handling and/or ride

Yeah, was looking at norwegian stores, forgot to mention that. Mostly semi slicks with bad wet grip available over here. Looks like the situation is the same over in the uk. Feel like a c-rating for wet grip in norway is a bad idea.

What do you want looks and style or function?

A good compromise might just be 16" rims you like with 215 or 225 tyres in the tread / type you need,

plenty good wet weather tyres available if come winter you change to Winter Tyres,

or maybe get 16" All weather tyres to use for the summer.

Calibra Suzuka Gunmetal

look like a cheap version of the wheels you posted in post #6 if you squint.

Looks, style and function would be ideal, but I'd never want to sacrifice ride and function for looks.

If I can find some good performance tyres like sportcontact5 or the like in a size that would give that beefy look then maybe I'll break the piggy bank for it. It's just that it rains a lot over here so tyres that are poor in the wet is a no go.

I use winter tyres, it's required by law.

Also, a fat tyre would kind of balance out the weight lost by going to a 5,5kg 15" wheel wouldn't it. I don't know how much heavier fatter tyres with more sidewall would be.

I will weigh some for you if i get a chance.

Just put my Summer AT Tyres on my Suzuki.

Fat at 235/70 R 15.

(This is what they have on the Ariel Nomad for Road use so i thought i would try them and see what like

in wet or snow, they are fine in the dry.)

The white lettering does not need to show, the black sidewall can be on the outside.

I have some 16's & 17" Alloys with 205, 215 and 225 tyres on but they are all pretty much 19-20 kg.

a Steel 15" Spare Wheel and tyre is still around 18 kg.

What makes tyes look balloony? Too much width and soft sidewalls?

This is rad:

This is bad:

And as you've been saying, you can't really trust the width marking on tyres right? Might be a bit of a headache finding the correct specs for each kind of tyre. Oh well, it's still idea phase. Was hoping to find some 2nd hand wheels, but lightweight 5x100s seems rare, especially in smaller sizes. Everyone is selling massive wheels or wrong bolt pattern.

According to this series of articles, staying within very small margins of oem width, offset and total diameter is cruicial. Is this for ultra snobs and/or very small margins on the racetrack or is he right and a regular spirited daily driver should adhere to these rules?

http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2011/04/wheel-tech-part-ii-size-matters/

If so, no fats for me. 215/45r16 would be the only option, with a 16x7 at original offset, as not to mess up scrub radius.

Not sure on the vRS, but the monte carlo (which you can only get with 17"s in the UK) has tyre pressures for various wheel/tyre sizes on the inside of the filler cap - guess these are the ones Skoda approve of?

On mine (1.2/77 kW TSI) it has: 185/60 R15, 195/55 R15, 205/45 R16, 205/40 R17.

However I went with 215/45 R16 Audi OEM wheels + tyres from an A1 due to price (£200 a set with tyres secondhnad) - same chassis so hopefully won't be terrible!

You could as easily have gone with the now option on Mk3 Fabia & thr standard size of 215/40 R 17

as fitted to the Audi A1 185ps, VW Polo GTI, Seat Ibiza Cupra / FR 1.4 TSI / TFSI's from 2009-2016.

(oddly these twincharger models are 1 VED band lower than the Skoda Twinchargers,

the Seat Ibiza was the same as the Skoda until 2013 when it got the same engine revision and Seat resubmitted

co2 figures but Skoda never did the same to their car / estate,  they are all the same platform.)

Look like team dynamics imola or bbs ch

Edited by SuperTurbo

  • Author

Well they obviously are bbs, but ch doesn't come in 16in. Probably a discontinued wheel.

Just because the centre caps say bbs I wouldn't say that means they definitely are. If they are bbs, rather than being aftermarket they may have been an OEM fit wheel from an older VW of some kind?

  • Author

True. Figured the motorsport etching around the centre cap made it more likely to be real bbs wheels as well. Seems the guy has taken the ad down now lol, think I'll just leave it be. Bad communication and little info, seems a bit shifty.
