Skoda Superb FL Steering wheel upgrade

Featured Replies

I have purchased an as new Superb 3 steering wheel to retrofit to my Superb facelift model.

This looks like the same model as offered as an optional on the facelift model but the button layout has changed.

I assume I can remove the buttons and wiring from my 4 spoke wheel and fit into this one OK. If so can anyone tell me how to remove the piano black shroud on the wheel to get to the buttons?

On another related matter the air bag retaining clips are missing from the wheel can anyone tell me if these are available as a separate item from dealers?

To reply to my own thread to help others in the future.

3 spoke wheel fitted by removing the buttons from my 4 spoke and fitting to the 3 spoke. Easy enough to do.

Airbag clips are not available separately so had to buy an old vw passat steering wheel for the clips. Again easy enough to remove.

Could have used the ones of the original wheel but thought best to sell on with the wheel.

Well done - is your new 3 spoke wheel the type with a flat bottom and nice thick handholds on it (think i saw one in a Octavia VRS and liked it)?

Could you spoil us with a pic?

No its not the flat bottom type, i have only seen the flat bottomed one with the punched leather which I am not keen on.

So fitted the standard wheel.

Will get a pic together tomorrow.

For those who want to swap over their face lift 4 spoke to a 3 spoke you can purchase a wheel like these from a Fabia model and refit you own buttons to it to work.

Thanks and you're dead right, the flat bottomed one I saw on the VRS was perforated leather. Same thing with a flat bottomed wheel in a Scirocco I played with while waiting for my wifes car to be ready.

I think that the flat bottomed wheel would look out of place in a Superb in my opinion, those wheels are more "sporty" than I would class the Superb to be... Lol

Standard Ivory interior on the Elegance..... Mine's the same but with Leon's old three spoke flappy paddle wheel. :)

Mine is the same as that but with the wood inserts. (and standard 4 spoke old school wheel)

Is this wheel a straight swap if I managed to get a wheel and airbag from somewhere? I have a 4 spoke Pre F/L MFSW in mines and would love the new one as above

Actually mine is a slightly different variation again.........

Full Ivory interior with the three spoke flappy paddle wheel..... But with black mats and vRS metal pedals. :D

Someone who knows more about the wheel setup than me would have to answer (I only know about swapping on a 20 year old 7 Series I used to own!) - but if it helps, here is a straight on view of the wheel and the buttons (no fancy DSG flappy paddles like WaveyDavey - mine is a manual 6sp box)..

That looks very smart.

I quite like the vRS pedals too....... :D

I'd come from my last three cars having metal pedals to having plain black in the superb and it just looked wrong to me. :)

Easy 20 minute job to do too. Brake is just the rubber and throttle is the whole pedal assembly.

Don't tempt me. :D I had these in my vRS once upon a time and I think they're very nice. Probably easier to keep clean (??) being metal??

I saw WaveyDaveys write up on his install of the pedals and looked them up.

They were cheaper than I expected - Superskoda.com has original VRS pedals for RHD Superb II's for €59.99 (DSG) and €54.99 (Manual).

They just finish off the high end look of the car for me. I got them from the local dealer rather than superskoda though. I paid £54 and collected them the day after ordering them. And don't forget when you sell the car you can always swap them back out again and sell them on for a few quid so they cost even less really.

Do you find the sport pedals at all "slidey"

I had "sport" pedals fitted to another car and found them Awful

No because the black bits are raised up above the metal and are made of the same rubber that the black pedals are so the same grip as standard black pedals. They are from the Octy vRS but can be fitted in a Yeti or Superb too as all three share the same style pedals..

I found them just fine in the Octavia. I may well buy these.

Apologies by the way to the OP for the thread hijack...... Steering wheel to pedals!!!!   :)

Scrreech Back on Track...........

I wonder if the S3 has a brown steering wheel flappy option as that is what I am looking for the now for the L&K or I will have to get one  recovered ......
