Citigo, facelift due?

Featured Replies

One or two motoring sites/magazine have already run little snippets on the upcoming VW Up facelift. As the CitiGo & Mii are all built at the same plant I guess that means that they will also inherit the facelift within a few weeks or months of the Up hitting the streets.

Face-lift for the Up appears to be confined to some subtle exterior mods. Side repeater deleted from front wing and moved to door mirror and some smartened up rear light clusters. Interior changes are more obvious with the dashboard getting a fresher look, with the possibility of new options like MFSW. Likewise new wheel options to suit the fresher look.

I wonder what the chances are of picking up some good discounts on the outgoing model as the new model hits the showrooms?

What is the chance that the VW Group decide that there will be no Face Lift for the Citigo and they just discontinue them as they did with the Roomster.

Poor sales from the Skoda Citigo being the issue.

Or maybe the VW Group will decide that the Skoda Citigo is the car to now become an EV and get a decent petrol engine with a quality Automated Manual box.

Have noticed on the Skoda UK website for the Citigo M Carlo the colour silver has been dropped from the options list, wonder why?.

Serious!! I bet I see at least 3 Skoda's to one vw round my way

Seat on the other hand or rare as hen's teeth round my way

I've heard they're planning on discontinuing the SEAT Mii as the sales have been hopeless, but the Citigo and Up! are staying.

Malcaster,

No not serious.

But what is serious is what a poor seller the Citigo is, which shows how poor Up!'Mii's are as well.

That never stops VW though, they just keep on First Registering them and then selling used ones.

VW never knowingly undersold, but if they can cheat they will.

Vorsprung Durch Technik,

Anything to look like a success, no lie is too big!

I have to admit, compared to say, the Toyota Aygo, I do think the Citigo/Up!/Mii trio are quite rare. If they're selling badly new, it explains the rubbish second hand values.

Locally we have 2X VW, 2 X Skoda, 2X SEAT dealers within 8-10 miles, so an even spread. Obviously subjective, but CitiGo wins hands down for cars on the road. I'd hardly call them common but you do see a few buzzing around. Up & Mii you are lucky to see more that a couple over the course of a week, even on the dealership forecourts it's never more than a few cars. A few weeks back (beginning of March) SEAT were not advertising it, but were offering huge discounts on the Mii, £2-3K off. I wonder if they were running down stock? Also I've not seen a Mii FR model anywhere but on the website.

See quite a few Up! and Citigo around Cambridgeshire. They seem amongst the more popular of small car breeds. (Maybe small cars are out of fashion at the moment?) Rarely see a Mii, though I don't think SEAT ever promoted it aggressively or had attractive finance offers for it.

Just been up to the Isle of Arran for a week, there was only one Citigo on the island and we saw one on a very busy M6 coming home, that was it!

G4S leased plenty for Meter Readers and they were all around Scotland.

Are they all sold off now after 2 years and are G4S still using Citigos having replaced with new?

See shed loads of citigos and up!s my way. A mii is a rare beast though.

I'm with the general consensus, lots of Citigo's & UP's and very few Mii's.

The trend here is the money areas have more UP's and the Citigo are spread everywhere else :)

But it still comes down to Skoda not being a volume seller in the UK.

All Skoda sold in the UK in a year being less than half just Ford Fiesta Sold, or as it is First Registered.

The Roomster was the lowest seller 3 years back followed by the Citigo while the Mk2 Fabia sold 32,000 out of Skoda UK's 66,000 cars.

Now the Mk3 Fabia might just be selling as few as Citigo.

When Skoda UK announce how well Skoda are selling in the UK it is a lot of spin.

Maybe now that it is June the new Brand Director will announce the figures for 2015.

Lots of Fleet Sales boost numbers which is why i was wondering if G4S were still leasing Citigos.

Less Motability Leases now, and i do not see many Citigo sitting in Hire Car Compounds, @ Airports or elsewhere, there are Fabia or there were when launched and first on sale, even before private customers got their ordered cars,

but that was how Skoda managed to get a good few of them on the First Registered figures, lease cheap to Fleet & Hire Companies.

Also Mii is a very silly name, why didn't they just revive Arosa or find some village in Spain?

Seat MilF sounds good

Up!MiiCitigo has always been how i see them.

I like the small VW EV cars that they have had little success with selling even in Yourkshire, the EeUp!

Must admit I'd not really looked into the number of sales until it popped up in this thread. I'm quite surprised that they have not been selling in greater numbers, but the city-car sector is quite competitive. They are or should be a cheap and cheerful option though Up! prices are just silly for such a small car. (VW taking the pish out of customers again) Citgo, although a tad cheaper are way too stingy on the options list for my liking. I'm not sure about residuals, there are some cheap cars about second-hand, but the initial hit does seem pretty big before they level off.

I think a minor re-trim of the interior to hide the bare paint would make them a more attractive buy. I've heard it come up a few times in conversation "yeah they are an OK car, but bare paint on the doors is a bit 70's" Things have moved on.

Clearly I'm not the norm, as I really like the bare metal as it provides a bit of colour to an otherwise rather dull interior. The other thing is, being metal, it's less likely to display signs of water damage resulting from you opening the windows after getting in the car after a period of heavy rain. Something I discovered this morning when pulling away from the driveway... ended up with a waterfall landing on my right arm.

I like the bare paint inside as well. I do wish they would illuminate the window/ door lock switches as they are a pig to tell apart in the dark.

The Citigo, mii and the up are expensive. My Monte Carlo comes with no dab and heated mirrors , my father in laws suzuki celerio comes with all these and cost 2 grand cheaper. I have owned a Skoda for the last 13 years and owned my last fabia for 8 years but will be moving brand due to high prices and less toys.

My mate has just bought a new Vauxhall Viva for his Mrs. Though dull as dishwater it has all the bits VAG wants you to pay extra for. If you can stand "dull" they are good value. I just had a play with their online configurator and for under 10K you can get a 5dr with reasonable amount of "toys" including cruise control, electric windows (front), and a sunroof.

They don't have the cheeky looks of the Up/Mii/Citygo and probably are not as accomplished on the road. But for a shopping run car they do the job well enough. Though I have just caught myself talking about 10K cars being cheap. I paid £65 for my first run-around. :D (something secondhand would do the job for 3K)

Could be that a lot of people don't care about what it's like to drive when buying a submini. I use mine every day, the microVAGs are the nicest-in-class to drive in my opinion. Maybe it's just me --- interior toys make me suspect Ooh Shiny! trickery to distract from a lacklustre driving experience; I'd rather enjoy the car and the road than hear digital John Humphrys through six speakers in the morning.

Unrepresentative sample of subminis from tonight's commute:

  • 5 microVAGs (1 Citigo, 3 Up!s, 1 Mii; also 2 VW Foxes but we won't count those)
  • 5 Hyundai i10s
  • 5 Ford Ka (although only 1 of those was a recent model)
  • 5 Fiat 500s (surprised me too)
  • 3 Kia Pecan Pies
  • 3 of those TPCA 'Little Tikes' thingies

So not a bad show in all.

I would say I fall into that category myself, I do like the basics (I do like my electric mirrors & windows) but much of the Bluetooth, gizmos and gimmickry is lost on me. I need it to stop, go & start every morning for more than the warranty period. Every road-test has the microVAG's winning hands down, not only for the commute but also in general, with them being enjoyable to drive.

Locally we seem to have lots of FIAT 500's (but we do have a FIAT dealer 2-4 miles up the road).

Yep. Aside from remote central locking, or things which aid driving (like electric mirrors and windows --- and I wouldn't be without aircon these days, really helps demisting) I'm not that fussed about the entertainment stuff. So long as I can get the Radio 4 evening comedy. 3rd-party satnavs that double up as a hands-free kit aren't expensive.

Then again, I don't have children.
