vRS TDI so far...

Featured Replies

Agree. Most of my driving is on long A roads and sometimes M4/M5 where I see much better returns (unless rush hour on motorways) on mpg and mph!

  • So another week in and am I still as impressed as I was almost 4 weeks and 2,000 miles ago? Yes I am. However, a few interesting points have emerged when comparing to other older VAG cars. The fold

  • Sure you can open it up, but your tea will probably be cold now. Or is that not what you meant?

  • Quite the charmer. Don't think I'd drive over a cliff, have a few more brain cells than that. X

Good days driving today around Dorset and saw a number of other MK3 vRS's. In Verwood, I clocked a meteor grey parked up at the start of a 30 zone and we gave each other a knowing smile - it was an unmarked police car! First one I've seen.

Onto Weymouth later in the day and got a nice pic whilst stopped for lunch

On the way home I hit an almighty pothole, luckily no damage to the alloy. Got to say it did jolt my back though - that's where the extra rubber and smaller alloys come in handy! MPG from around 150 miles was 45.....mainly due to some spirited sprints and cornering which brought a smile to my face!

I'm now debating on whether the Bluetooth+ option is really worth it. Vodafone is pretty poor anyway in many locations and I'm now not sure I get a huge increase in range with it compared to previous cars.

Received my new dashcam today from eBay - the DDPai M6+. Brilliant delivery and impressed with it so far.

Apple esque box and easy to install and use with an app. USB power lead is hidden better than I thought I could - see pics.

Lead is going under lip of fabric before windscreen and down inside side pillar - all done by hand.

And here's a clip for those interested in the quality. Picture sound is me trying out the single pic via a separate button - records an 11 second clip alongside this. Great for when I see various classic or supercars on my travels.

It comes with a 3M stick mount and magnet that the camera clips onto. I stuck this onto the plastic behind the mirror. Search DDPai and you'll see a review by Techmoan (best minicam he's tested) which is really good.

It does record to the app as well, but I think it's only the 11 second clips from when you press the remote picture button (stuck this by the wheel). It takes a micro SD card - went for max 64GB.

So it's been a little while since my last post. Nothing major to update, mpg is hovering around 44-48 on most journeys - usually 100-150 miles. Load space is brilliant - took our cases for our week away and lots of other kids 'stuff', toys etc. Looks really are deceiving in terms of space having come from the cavernous Passat.

Activated the text notification on my iPhone so they can be read out via the sound system. Lots of fun with the kids with their mum sending messages and the car reading them out. Useful for work today too with a few messages whilst driving being read out, thus enabling me to call customers back without having to stop to read them.

Really impressed with the new dash cam, would recommend it for anyone looking for a full HD camera - brilliant picture that is far better than others twice the price. Have seen some shocking overtaking and driving whilst we were on holiday. Main one was a Focus ST - knew he had more power so let him go before I overtook, he carried on overtaking on the brow of a hill and also further on coming up to a bend. Do wonder how these drivers get away with it, likely to kill others if they crash rather than themselves.

Speaking of the cam, I bought some black electrical tape to seal it against the dash plastics, blends in much better than I thought it would. Not sure if the lead running up the side of the pillar is an issue with the airbag - feedback appreciated? Pics may not be the highest quality - running off safari on iPad and it only allows me to attach 2mb in total at a time - suggestions appreciated on that too!

Why not just use a fuse tap and get rid of the mess of wires??

Electrics are not my strong point - will have a look in the forum or google it!

It's as easy a replacing a fuse.

So today, I parked up in an end bay right on the lines to give a huge gap to the next bay. What happened? Yep, some careless guy chipped my door. I waited for them to come back and (calmly) got details and went through what happened - the erratic parking was my constant comeback and he almost hit it again was it not for my hand! Thankfully his insurance text me to admit liability, it may have been small but maybe he'll learn now - pic of his door shows I'm not the first!! ????????

Just read the whole thread and must admit i'm getting a little bit excited about the delivery if my new car in the next few weeks  :D

Glad I've gone for Grey this time, my 57 Vrs was race blue and I can sympathise with you about EVERY mark and stone chip showing up

Meteor or Quartz? Got to say it's a great car so far, throroughly enjoying driving it!

My old Passat was silver and that had no worries diguising the scrapes!

Don't give them any credit; there are a whole raft of people out there who are filled with jealousy and will not hesitate to deliberately damage your pride and joy.

It's a uniquely British thing.

At my work, we had a couple of Chinese guys (who spoke perfect English, of course) come over to oversee the installation of some of their software and we took them out for lunch on the Friday as a thank-you.

We parked next to a very white, very nice top-end Mercedes.  Much admiring later, I cynically observed "how long before someone keys it?"

The Brits in our party just nodded whilst the head Chinese guy observed "yes, we travel all over the world and it is only here that this happens".

He went on to say "in China, if a young person sees someone driving a nice car, he thinks to himself "I am going to work/study harder so that one day I can buy a car like that"".

Ergo, their mindset is to climb the ladder.

Our mindset is "smug b4$t4rd, let's bring him down to my level, I'll key his car".

It's actually shameful.

I suspect you're spot on here, a friend had his Sirocco torched for no reason other than he was young and driving a "flash" car (for the area).  Fact that he works bl**dy hard for it is another matter.

Not sure why, but only noticed the bendy lights last night. Quite impressed with them.

Here's a video for anyone who hasn't got the car yet with the Xenons and are interested to see them. This is from my new dashcam - the picture noise is the camera, as when take a quick pic (via a remote button), it uploads a subsequent 11 second video which I can get through the app, rather than removing the memory card.

Put the car in sport and they get more noticeable.

I think they're excellent until I'm a passenger then they make me sick.  Weirdly I seem to be the only one who has been in the car at night to suffer from the issue.

Don't think I've been out of sport for weeks :)

Can't have done that much night driving since I got it, or haven't noticed which is a little worrying!

You may notice more if you put the car in Eco as they're "normal" then.  I find when I'm driving they're extremely natural in that the light is almost exactly where I'm looking so you don't really notice it until it's not working.

The progressive steering rack is like that - just feels normal until you get in  car without it and that feels very wrong.

As a passenger I've no idea why it makes me ill - maybe cause I'm not controlling the movement and it's not pointing in-line with the car.

Sorry to read about your door. I must say I would be utterly horrified if that happened to me.

The uniquely British comment annoyed me if I'm frank. Please don't put our nation down at the expense of a few ****s that couldn't care less or jealous. I lived down under for 3 years and experienced far more of it than here. There are so many variables at play like 1) the local area 2) how you act/drive 3) where you park that affect how stuff like this happens.

Rule Britannia lol

You voted "in" at the referendum, right?

How I voted is not really relevant now is it :).

Even though this is a company car, I treat it like my own. Have met plenty of co car owners though with the attitude of "I'm not paying so why should I care"

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would not treat a Co car as if I were paying for it. After all it will be replaced in 3/4 years and certainly would not spend my own money on it for the slightest ding or dent.

Will your fleet management penalise you for handing it back with minor damage? If so that's harsh.

I spend money on cars I own outright such as my boxster and focus but as for my leased octavia..That's just fuel costs, tax and insurance. Nothing more as I know it will be replaced in a couple years.

My '16 vRS TDi DSG Estate is 7,500 on from new now. This was out journey at the weekend from South Norfolk to South-West France. Me and two kids plus all our stuff for 2 weeks away, including a lap of Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe :)
