Themisto alloy 18'' wheel - confusion

JB.

Recommended Posts

My 2010 Superb is with the Glasgow dealer for service and MOT (including a lot of work on the wheels, callipers and brake discs).  The rear left alloy has a buckle and they recommend replacing.  The quoted price for 18'' Themisto alloy wheel only is £290+vat.  I challenged this, as I remember the Themisto ally costing £170 new (when I bought the car).

I pointed the dealer to Skoda Parts website which is selling the wheel for £168 (part number 3T0601025E 7ZS).  They state that the wheel should be suitable for the 2008-13 Superb.  Link below.

http://www.skodaparts.com/product/superb-themisto-alloy-wheel-18-inch-2008-2013-21074

But the dealer has come back with the following response:

  • This is not a Skoda authorised website.
  • The wheel in this link is for the new 2015 Superb model and so is unsuitable for my 2010 car (according to my car chassis number).
  • Their internal Skoda parts system states I need a different Themisto alloy for my chassis number, the price of which is £290+vat (i.e. double the price of the above wheel).

Does anyone know if the dealer's information is correct?  Is it really twice the price for a (supposedly) slightly different alloy wheel for the older model?

I am tempted to buy this £168 wheel and have it fitted elsewhere.  But, I would like to know that this wheel would still be suitable for my car.

Many thanks for your time.

The Mk2 Superb is a variant 3T, the Mk3 Superb is a variant 3V.....This is reflected in the part number.

AFAIK, there has only ever been one type of Themisto alloy wheel for the Mk2 3T Superb. As long as the PCD and offset are the same, knock yourself out

The link you provided shows the right part anyway. If in doubt, email them with your VIN and double check but i'm 99.9% sure it's correct for your car.

Buy it yourself and get it fitted locally.

It's not an official skoda site, but it is run by a skoda dealership.

I don't recall seeing a thermisto alloy on the superb mkIII options. but I've not gone through every derivative yet.

I'd ask if they are authorised and failing that, if can they show you their elbow. :D

The Themisto is certainly not an option on a 2015 MK3 Superb

As Colin said it is a Škoda dealer:

Get the car back and have a second opinion at your trusted tyre dealer.

I was told i had buckled wheels before, was not true enough to warrant new wheels.as there was no vibration or any other defects at any speed.

good luck

As above get it checked by a specialist
Much cheaper to get it trued by a specialist....

I had my car in at said dealer for a "Full Mastertechnician  overlook" and it came back with all 4 alloys required replaced and boot mat as well....

My verdict was very slight scratching on 2 wheels and I needed to clean the mat as last dealer I had bought the car from left the tyre in the boot and the tyre shine stuff had dirtied the boot mat.......

For the price they have quoted you could get all 4 wheels refurbished

Thanks all for your helpful (and humorous) replies.  Big G, I will pay your VAG tyre chap a call tomorrow morning (it's not far off my route anyway).

In case anyone is interested, this is the latest reply from the dealer on the wheel.  I am still confused as to the differences in the two quoted wheels (slightly different part numbers), I don't see any obvious differences, but then where is the sense in having two different part numbers for the same wheel?!

"On the link you have sent us the original part number of the wheel from Bickerton Skoda is CCH800001 which then supersedes to part number 3T0071498E7ZS which is £128.67 plus VAT. It also tells you the factory fiited wheel for your car which is part number -

3T0601025E7ZS which is size 7,5J X 18 ET46 and retails at £323.63 plus VAT. This is in accordance with Skoda’s ETKA which is Skoda’s Parts Catalogue system we use to determine the correct parts for your car and 3T0601025E7ZS is the wheel listed for your chassis number. We have discounted the price for you to £290 plus VAT on a 2 day order.

The wheel from Bickertons might be ok for your car but it is not listed for your chassis number therefore we would not supply part number 3T0071498E7ZS unless you specifically asked us to and accepted responsibility for doing so. The part number CCH800001 from Bickertons is an old number so they are possibly trying to get rid of some old stock."

The CCH800001 part number is the number from the Skoda Accessories catalogue: http://etka.cc/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/SUP/year/2010/drive_standart/632/hg_ug/071/subcategory/71070/part_id/0/lang/e

As far as I can see, it is not an 'old' number.

A search for the part number the dealer says it supersedes to showed nothing. That said a google search turns up several results for it. I'm not sure why the wheel would be available under two different part numbers.

It's worth noting that the Skoda Parts link in your OP shows the correct part number that your dealer is quoting you. This sounds very much like they want your money any way they can.

  • 2 weeks later...

To be fair to the dealer they are just going by the book. They have entered the OP's chassis number into Skoda's parts system and quoted the customer on the replacement part required.

They then go on to say they will happily fit the online alloy from Bickerton's at the OP's risk.

I would be sending an email off to Skoda UK and asking them for clarity. They almost always respond within 24 hours. Use this online form, takes seconds...

You can then share your findings and keep this website up to date for others with the same question  :sun:

It is possible to have the buckle removed! I have themistos on my Superb and had a buckle in one of the wheels, a local alloy wheel specialists removed the buckle for £80, wheels been perfectly fine and I recently had new tyres and the same tyre fitters who picked up the buckle said it was still running true! There will be some on here that will frown upon having a buckle removed but from my experience if its done professionally then theres nothing to worry about.

I got one of these wheels for my Skoda Superb from these people. It was the genuine part and I had the tyre fitted by my local tyre supplier.

It was excellent.

It would be a genuine part as you bought it from an approved Skoda dealership. ;)   (It's Bickerton Skoda in Sheffield)

Yes but the point is that his dealer said it was not a Skoda authorised website, suggesting it would not be a Skoda part.

I know that's what I said further up.... The dealer was saying it wasn't an official Skoda site but it is.... It's the parts dept. website of an official Skoda dealership.....
