nicely done. Looks like a lot of work. Not sure I have the courage to attempt this.

Amazing work there sir.  Well done

Having done several detailed "How to guides" on the MK7 Golf forum all I can say is..

VERY WELL DONE................writting up & anotating clear pics is the hardest part & requires more hard work!!!

These are fantastic instructions, thanks for the effort you have put in here.

The mounting of the bar looks quite simple, but the electrics and the removal of the trim etc. makes me nervous. I am reasonably handy with DIY, and used to do all the repairs on my old (1994) Escort myself, but I don't want to screw up a brand new car. Should I get a pro to install the electrics, or should I be able to do it myself without screwing anything up..?

Depends if you have towbar prep, if you have then it is a walk in the park. If you don't have the towbar prep, then it is more of an effort. Some of the wiring by the fusebox, is a bit fiddly, but nothing too difficult.

About to undertake this so many thanks for the detailed guide.

Just to follow up from this, I fitted the wiring last night. The guide from CJ212 was brilliant.

I also coupled it with https://www.westfalia-automotive.com/fileadmin/pdf/e_anlagen/305/e305408391101.pdf

There's a few variations from car-to-car and for 7-pin wiring vs 13-pin wiring.

For my Sep 2014 Octavia III VRS Estate I used the part no. 305408300107 from Westfalia. This is for vehicles without the towbar prep from the factory. The difference between the two is that vehicles with towbar prep already have the wiring ran from the front of the car to the boot area. Vehicles without the prep do not and so you need to wire all the way to the front of the car and into the fusebox.

The towbar I used with the OEM from Skoda with part no. 5e0092155. The Westfalia kit works perfectly with it.

Great guide, couldn't have completed it without it.

I fitted an oris detachable, its a nice towbar, although the swivel socket doesnt work well, the grommet behind it gets in the way and rotating it is a bit of a struggle, ive tightened it a bit more and it was getting so loose the nut was coming off

A real pain
