Fabia VRS Diesel - What does this pipe do?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Recently i have had an issue with my VRS and today noticed where an oil leak has been coming from. This has been causing an error which my diagnostic said was throttle motor but looking further it seemed my EGR valve was a bit oily on the outside. Cleared error and cleaned valve and area around it and all seemed ok.

Anyway, looked further today and saw this, the pipe had a kink and i think is not perished.

What does this do? I can see it goes off towards the bulkhead and oil is collecting, but not a lot from what i can see.

Welcome help on this one and how best to fix it.

Oil leak visible behind pipe from intercooler

Pipe clearly has kink in it!

Pipe is looking perished at end, not sure if anything is flowing through it...

I welcome any help or advice.

Many thanks

Paul

Ok

I cleane dthe area up and disconnected the main silicon hose into the EGR valve and noticed it was full of oil.

What i thought was a pipe was cables in a sheath, but so covered in oil i could not tell. This ended in an electrical connector which i cleaned off.

Question: How does the EGR valve and hoses attached to it get full of oil?

The valve itself had very heavy deposits and there was oil in the bottom which i cleaned out.

Welcome advice on this before i go to a garage.

Sounds normal to me, the oil breather from the cam cover recirculates into the intake and so you get oil mist in the inlet pipes, over time it builds up and the pipes get wet with oil, combine this with the exhaust gases from the EGR and you get a horrible gungy oil build up in the EGR/inlet manifold.

As you have cleaned it all now just keep an eye on it, if its bad after a week you may have other problems, if it remains clean all is ok.

Car is still running below its normal power, so wonder if i have a leak in a hose somewhere.

Reset the warning light but since cleaning our EGR vavle it always comes back on, as previously it would stay clear for at least a week or so.

Car is also sounding a bit unhealthy when i turn the ignition off, as though it stutters a bit as it shuts down.

It is too dark in the evenings to see everything properly so will check again on weekend for further deposit and oil buildup in EGR valve.

What is best for cleaning them out?
