Mk 3 vRS wanted! Advice please!

Featured Replies

You have made the right choice. I went from 07 TFSI VRS to MkIII VRS TSI. Fuel is very slightly better and overall a better car with good toys. You may or may not have a few rattles around B pillar but other than that you won't regret it.

  • Last day with my Silver MkII today. Taking out my bits & bobs, clearing the nav etc etc.    Has been the best car I've ever had - seven years from new! Will be very sad to see her go....

  • +1   The economy in my 230 is improving noticeably - I've just hit 10.5k.   Could have something to do with the warmer weather, but it's now much easier to get mid-high 30s mpg now

  • Super excited!   Just paid a deposit on a 2014 vRS DSG TSI Estate with Columbus, Pano roof & (I think) Black Pack - mirrors & grill.    Reasonable PX for my '10 vRS Estate

This is the exact spec of my new one, although this is lowered somewhat - some sort of press shot / rendering.

Proper (and real) photos should follow early next week as the garage are going to take some decent pics for me once the car is fully prepped.

Thanks Redboy!

Here's hoping there are no rattles.

The car will have 10 weeks of warranty left when I get it, so hopefully I can get any niggles sorted locally (Blade Bristol Skoda).

Can anyone tell me if my 16" steel winter wheels will fit over the front brake calipers on a 2014 Mk3 vRS?

They do fit on my Mk2 FL, which is running 18s in the summer, but it's very tight.

Thanks guys!

Don't think so, the front brakes will be 344mm discs so 17" are the smallest wheels for the front. The newer Tdi Vrs 2016 > ( Pre facelift ) onwards has the smaller front disc.

Thanks Auric. That's what I feared.

There will be a set of steel 16s & 2 sets of winter tyres for sale very soon then.

Good luck :-)

And if you want it to look like the press photo just get some Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Lowers it by about 10mm at the rear and 20mm at the front.

I've got them on my white VRS with 19s and it looks great. Plus it doesn't have a negative effect on ride comfort / usability, but improves confidence in the handling massively.

Nice looking headlights those. All Mk3's should have them:).

BUT, new chapter tomorrow. Nearly 400 mile round trip to part-ex mine & pick up my new '14 plate vRS.

0700 start tomorrow. Super exited. Wish me luck!

Probably too early for you to make a meaningful comparison, hopefully you'll appreciate the newer tech and overlook the less solid/chunky feel to the car.

Just back. Always love a 'new car day'!

8 hrs driving, mostly in the rain. Thankfully it wasn't raining at collection in Eastbourne!

I love the new car. @Redboy Having done a 4 hr vs 4 hr back-to-back test, I think the MkIII is just as solid as the MkII, perhaps even more so. They are both remarkably 'solid' cars for the money. My MkII didn't have a single rattle at 89,000 miles and I said on the way down to my father-in-law, "hope the new one feels as well made". It definitely does - so far, only 22,000 miles on it though!

Regarding the tech, the new Columbus is SO much better than the FL MkII Columbus. Not just a much bigger screen, but so fast to react - the processing power must be much greater.

Loved the Pano roof - obviously shut today but lightens the cabin nicely.

Other initial thoughts:

- seats very comfy

- slightly bigger inside

- wheels gorgeous

- love the (synthetic) sound - feels bassier

- slightly quicker than MkII

- white with Black Pack looks freaking awesome, especially with the pano roof.

I loved my MkII FL, and both my father-in-law & I commented on what a fabulous car it still is on the way down, but the new one just feels that little bit better in every area - like it's been turned up to 11.

Great day! Very happy. More detailed comparison / feedback to come soon, with pics of course once I've got the West Country dirt off it!

One question please guys:

The fake carbon trim around the gear stick has quite a few fine scratches as if the previous owner used to chuck his keys down there. Any suggestions / products to help improve the way this looks. Cheers!

On the basis that if there isn't a photo, it hasn't happened!....

Looks great. I agree with most of your comments, overall it is a better car in just about all departments. The painful bit if buying new was the price increase but then again it comes with a fair few more toys than the MkII. I don't think the increase in price necessarily reflects a higher second hand value.  For me a 'downside' is that due to the MkIII Octavia's popularity, a VRS is a much more common sight. Part of the attraction for me of my MkII was its bang for buck and relative rarity in 2008,  it seemed like it was an underdog and occasionally proved to be a real surprise to other drivers of ' superior' marques.

Agree with the price comments Redboy.

I bought the MkII new & got a great deal including big discounts on the numerous options.

I saw the price of the MkIII and decided to wait until I could buy a nearly three-year old one - that was made easier by the quality of the MkII. Also, if I got bored, I just went for a blat in sport & fell in love with it again. I'd never had a car for 7 years before.

I was lucky to find a MkIII with Columbus & the roof - pricey options - and feel like I've got a half-priced car with only 22k on it. Today's dealer also added 12 months 'full' warranty - the 3 year one runs out in July. I haven't delved into the details of it yet though.

Overall very happy with both the new car & the Skoda service.

As regards 'superior' marques, the world is rapidly changing.

My Dad has a 330D Luxury xDrive estate '64 plate. Nice car for sure, but worth over £40k new compared to mine (when new high £20s)?  I don't think so.

I'd rather have the MkIII. Smaller outside, bigger inside, better tech (my thoughts anyway) and less flashy.

£5000. I fully expect to see it on sale for £7,495 or more if they don't auction it.

Under £10k to change.

Thanks.

I assumed the shark fin was linked to the steering wheel to help the air flow around corners, aero dynamic like...............

The robot that fitted yours must be the same one that fitted mine, never met a drunk robot before...... < robot oil

Bitter-sweet day today.

Had a small dent & and a scuff on the tailgate ('missed' by the supplying Skoda dealership - 'kin muppets, never, ever darkening their door again!!) removed & painted expertly by ChipsAway locally - have used him before, good job, great deal - and de-badged the Skoda & Octavia lettering at the same time.

Very pleased with the result and the cleaner look of the tailgate.

Arrived home happy-as......

......only to spot on walking away from the car that Mrs Dunc, who has only ever driven the car twice, has already kerbed the NSF alloy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FFS.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
