remap- EGR - DPF delete??

Featured Replies

so times ticking away for my remap I'm still undecided on what to do.

do I have a DPF filter removal - has anyone removed one that's gone through an MOT recently? i'm aware they are cracking down on this. can you just 'remove' it via software when remapped?

EGR- again anyone removed / blanked this off - is it recommended to do does it require blanking off or can you do this via software

shark have said they can do a carbon clean for £90 before the map - is this worth doing and has anyone had it done?

Whilst removing the internals of the DPF will currently pass a mot (physically remove it & it will fail) i personally wouldnt bother (just buy a petrol car),i asked my insurance ref removing it & they told me they would not insure me as its a illegal modification (re map ok though) a friend of mine not long ago had his insurance fail to pay out after a accident as they inspected the car & found that the dpf had been tampered with (he also had other un declared modifications though) but i saw the email listing the reasons & dpf filter removal was one of them,im sure the mot test will eventually be changed to crack down on dpf removal with all the current bad press for diesel cars.

im leaning towards leaving the DPF alone.

what about ERG valve I was thinking of putting the darkside EGR blank plate in and then having it mapped out

I'm a big fan of if it isn't broken don't try to fix it, I have a 2.0tdi VRS that I have had remapped and I have left the EGR and DPF alone as I am having no issues with them.

To be fair the EGR was replaced under warranty when I first bought the car and prior to the remap so I'm not expecting any issues from it.

The DPF I will probably replace/modify if and when I eventually get any issues, my thoughts are if they change the MOT to be tougher on DPF and I have modified a perfectly good DPF that could have lasted years I have lost out twice, the cost of the mod and the cost of replacing the DPF to pass the MOT.

Removing the EGR will increase warm-up time and hamper fuel efficiency over shorter journeys as the car takes longer to reach operating temperature.

My 2.0 tdi failed its mot on having no cat last week.  I was told it was now illegal to have no cat and/or dpf in place.  And not just for an MOT either.
