It looks like it will be a highly competitive year.

Enjoy, because the cars will be slower from next year, and it wont be long before VET/HAM are gone and people start to get bored of VES winning every race

  • Ironically, the last time a backmarker took the leader out in F1, that backmarker was none other than Jos Verstappen

the way he's been driving in the first few races, it wouldn't be a surprise if Max ended up in the front row of the grandstand / marina

  • As usual the super-mature Max and Seb both laid the blame for their collisions on the other party. The stewards disagreed with those opinions.   W4nkers both.

Robert Kubica got a run in the Williams and was 1.246 seconds faster than Stroll; I guess Williams FUBS!

and his feedback was...the car is **** & not good to drive or enjoyable to do so.

Q3  What happened to Ferrari????

4/10th faster to 2/10th slower in about 10 minutes?

They were dominant in Q1 and Q2 then lost it completely and dropped off the front row.

Rain might save us from the usual Barcelona bore-fest tomorrow.

Nope. It was still the usual bore. Maybe having an active F1 race circuit as the test track is still a bad thing - like it always has been.

Maybe the new yank will take up JC's idea from yrs back on TopGear, where suggested the TG track instead of Silverstone to save money.. then May pointed out that the figure 8 track layout would make it a really interesting race :D

Meanwhile the historique at monaco as per georges post elsewhere was brilliant. Old cars in the wet. Eddie Irvine, Mika Hakkinen and others in cars with prwty much no driver aids, spinning out smacking barriers, overtakes with mm to spare.. It was 18 laps (the i got to see) of thrill a second motor sport, like F1 is meant to be.

Judging from the price of the Circuit of Wales, anyone with perhaps £750 million lying around could maybe have a go at developing Dunsfold for top class racing. The perimeter track looks nice - like Goodwood, Thruxton or pre -'73 Silverstone.  Mind you it does lack transport infrastructure nearby so another few billion for a main road might be needed.

Searching for the Monaco Historique online now - good call.

Just a small crash for Max this week, and a podium. Real progress I'd say.

Should be one of the favourites for Monaco. RBR can certainly get on the front row there.

Forget Dunsfold, our local council has recently given permission for 1800 houses to be built on the land without the slightest thought of how a few thousand extra cars will affect the  A281.

WHAT !

Have they all moved camp ?

Ferrari's halo mounted mirrors have been banned. The FIA have said that mirrors can be mounted from the halo, but without giving any aero improvements. The Ferrari was using large brackets deemed to give an advantage.

Bye bye Lorenzo then.

Ducati can't afford both - He'll be off to Suzuki soon if they can pay a reasonable wage - although he won't be able to negotiate anything like his current retainer.

Another Canadian billionaire throws money at F1 in the hope of getting his boy a seat:

Son Nicolas has apparently been a Renault F1 tester in 2016 although he's not on the list of 8 Renault drivers that I have for that season - and he's this month had a go in a Force India as their development driver (don't know how many million that cost Pater to be honest)

He has just 1 win in Italian F3 to his name (in 2012), and 1 Sprint race win in F2 .

Currently 9th in F2 (disappointing since it his 5th year in the formula and he did better last year).

Based on his record, not as good a prospect as Palmer then, or Stroll.

Can't see McLaren giving him a drive ever.

Crasher kept up his 100% record in FP3.

Gearbox change means 5 place penalty...

If the car is rebuilt in time for FP1.

Well it wasn't fixed so RBR bookend the entire grid.

Mark Webber just noted that Crasher has indeed spun, crashed or hit other drivers at every race this year.

Horner and Marko both look p155ed.

They'll be even more p155ed if Ferrari or Mercedes steal the win tomorrow. A RBR 1-2 on the grid would have nearly guaranteed victory.

Will mad max get insurance to race in Europe as it has been suggested that the European Commission proposals to subject F1 cars racing in Europe need 3rd party insurance, which could result in wiping out F1 in Europe ?

Has Riccardo upped his game this year?

Is that the root cause of Max issues?

It'll be great if Daniel shows RBR they've backed the wrong horse and then buggers off to Ferrari.

Monaco lived up to it's usual dull procession. Ricciardo well down on power, but still able to keep Vettel behind him.

This just about sums up the race:

Third-placed Lewis Hamilton was not impressed with the race: "I will be shocked if anyone was awake at home while it was on, because I would have been asleep on the couch"

At least all the millionaires and their cronies sunning themselves on their yachts had a nice time.

Like the House of Lords, it’s about time this anachronism was despatched.

Its all about profit.

To be honest, this years Pirelli's dictated the race.  It can be quite an entertaining one but the tyres and strategies required to make them last ruined the event.

  • 2 weeks later...

Brendon Hartley under threat. STR trying to get Lando Norris from McLaren into the drive. Surprised there's no-one suitable on the Red Bull junior ladder already.
