i hope no one reports the 'how to' post if its illegal?   ....would the original poster get in trouble?

I can't really side with either party, as they say two wrongs don't make a right. Had the OP dazzled the oncoming driver and caused them to collide you'd have a hard time explaining to the police and your insurance company that you were dazzled so instead of of slowing down you decided to blind them with your full beam.

In the willy waving wars they're both losers.

I am not justify fog light using in normal conditions, but here is what I think of the fogs in general. 99.9% of times or even 99.999% of times you do not need to use them in any possible way - fogs are only for visual effects ONLY (even if not litten, they are there for visuals - cars in general look better with them fitted). You only need to use them in REALLY heavy fog and even then they light up so little that most of the time even under usual fog you are better off driving with half light Xenons... (full Xenon is too much - it will not cut into the fog) I bet most of the people have not encountered those kinds of fogs to justify turning off your half lights and drive with fogs only...

Oh you are saying corering is better with them? Please...

But as far as the back extra light goes - this is there for a reason, but you can't turn that light on, unless your front ones are on. You probably want to use that extra back light more compared to fronts. So, there's that.

Driving with the front fogs on is annoying but not as annoying as those who have fitted H.I.D bulbs into halogen headlights  having a new 4x4 or people carrier behind you in your mirrors with the latest H.I.D/LED headlights is blinding, glad my golf has the dimming rear view mirror. I had the cornering fog lights activated on my mk2 octy vrs & thought they worked ok but now i have my Golf which has cornering lights built into the headlights that shine out the side ive found these much better & useful.

I have bigger problems with those who drive with rear fogs in clear weather, due to my vision i usually have to slow down to 75mph as i approach them and 99% of the time they are usually a certain age/gender as well. :wondering:

I dont know why car manufacturers cant design a car where the fog lights turn off every time you switch off the car so you have to turn them on again if foggy.

with all the sensors and gadgets manufacturers should be able to block (just the rears, still need the fronts to look cool) turning on rears unless visibility is reduced to a certain level.

we need a disclaimer "do not do this mod if you live in the nanny State of Britain" :D

I like to leave both front and rear fogs on. Just in case....

One car I drive only has H4 headlights ( twin filament bulbs ) and you notice that when they are on Full/Main beam,

with the blue warning in the dash, the ground just in front and to the side of the car is dark.

All the light goes forward on main beam.

Not good when you drive on twisty road in the country with no street lights.

The dipped beam filaments go out when you swap to Main/Full beam.

When you want to thank someone at night I will change my headlights from dipped down to side lights,

rather than giving them a flash of full/main beam.

If I see a car with it's fog light's on when not required, as I pass them I use my fog horn! ( AKA triple air horns. ) :o

Thanks AG Falco.

Glad to see someone else uses 'reverse flash' I hate getting blinded when someone thanks me.

Why not just temporarily put your own foglights on to pass them?

Eye for an eye and all that? "Oh you had yours on, I'd assumed it was foggy where you were...."

They don't bother me that much, not like people with poorly adjusted third party HID bulbs, or fat SUV tanks tailgating with rear mirror height headlights.

Or Renaults (they always seem to be Renaults) with dodgy rear lights.

Or people doing 40mph in a 60 and braking every time there is an oncoming car.

And I'm assuming that the 75mph comment was about RoI motorways with a 120km/h speed limit....

Started doing this in 1985.

I had a Vauxhall Astra e but with the 4 circular headlamp Irmsher conversion on it.

I also had 4 x 100 watt bulbs fitted, so main beam worked. :blush

Thanks AG Falco

Dipped head light to Sidelight is good in daytime / daylight,

but not that a 'quick' action when that is through 'Auto' to Sides that might be a Side light plus dimmed DRL.

(Maybe you allready on 'Auto' and only DRL's are on anyway as so often seems to be the way as no Headlights are on.

So vehicle dependent, location / situation,

light type or you might end in the General Car Chat thread,       'Have you ever confused DRL's' (& have paranoia type reactions.)

I don't agree with the "eye for an eye thing", or putting other road users in daneger just because someone (idiot or not) has the wrong lights on.

Something like this is far more subtle, and gets the message accorss.

20171216_114407.jpg

I don't have auto lights as I can tell when it is dark and the DLR's have been turned off .

So for me it is one click anticlockwise to drop to sidelights, which is not instant.

Then one click clockwise to put the dipped beam back on, this is instant.

Had one customer wanting a headlight bulb change.

Me: Which bulb is not working?

Customer: Don't know.

Me: How do you know a bulb is not working then?

C: The car displays a warning message on the dash.

Me: How about turning the lights on and I will look.

C: I don't know how to turn the lights on!

Me: ?

C: They are automatic!

Me: How about RTFM.:o

Rather than auto cancelling the fog lights when the car is switched off, why not have an auto speed restriction built in, fog lights on, car restricted to 50MPH.

Alternatively, just add a warning buzzer, sounding every 30seconds when fog lights are switched on.

This is rife here in Milton Keynes, even had it out with a traffic cop and all he had to say was "we cant go round stopping everybody with front fog lights on"?????, so I thought to my self "that's your job, we pay your wages to uphold the law, so I'm not getting value for money here, if I did that sort of thing in my job, I would not have it for long".

It Pi$$es me off there is no traffic cops around when you need then, unless there is a TV camera about following them, or Dogsdick Littlewood in tow.

Rant over

Is it not far simpler that when you check your speedometer at a regular, but not specified interval, to ensure you are within the specified speed limit,  to also look for any warning lights on the dash; Check Engine warning, Bulb Out warning, Low Fuel warning, Front/Rear Fog Light on 'reminder'?

Or are you one of these people that rely on automatic lights, wipers, City Braking to do the thinking for you?
