So my VRS245 is one year old tomorrow and I thought I would share some running costs with anyone thinking of buying one.

12,410 miles covered using 1,377.38 litres (302.98 gallons) of super unleaded (99 octane).

Total cost £1,725.78 or £143.82 per month.

Average 40.96 MPG.

Best car I have owned by a big margin unbelievable economy considering last 5,000 miles it has been coping with over 300BHP at 5,500 revs and has hit 150,160 and 165MPH during that time. SIMPLY BRILLIANT!:D

Question - does it struggle to get to 165?

Every yr me and my mates do a eurotrip, and the usual rules are sub 6 to 60 and 160mph top speed minimum - and yes, we do hit that speed regularly (highest ive done is 189, another has cracked 200).

Thinking of taking the red baron this yr for the trip rather than buying a new toy for it - but wondering if it would cope.

NO doesn't struggle or take long to get there. There is a bridge 0.4 miles from a rounabout near my workplace and I can accelerate from 0-136MPH by the time I get to the bridge so I would imagine 0-165MPH would take 1 mile or halfway down Bruntingthorpe's 2 mile runway!Pulls like the proverbial train thanks to more torque than a 4.0litre 911 GT3 which pushes out 493bhp!

What have you done to the engine to get those gains??

Just a stage 1 re-map that any 245 owner could have done if you're not leasing (I know a lot of you guys are). Planning on stage 2 mods soon (exhaust, intercooler, airbox and re-map) which should lift it to 330-340bhp and 500NM of torque. Hard to describe but my manual car will pull 24mph in 4th or 39mph in 6th UPHILL no problem whatsoever. EVEN managed to pull away from an Aston Martin in the outside lane when we had been held up by slow traffic.

I believe shyVRS245 however my standard VRS245 Estate has averaged about 32mpg over its first 12 months. Its certainly not ragged everywhere and hasn't been anywhere near its top speed.  The only times I've seen 40+mpg have been on predominantly motorway journeys with extensive running under enforced 50 or 60 mph limits.  My daily commute is 9 miles each way on a mix of hilly country roads and urban traffic.

That's roughly what the 2010 Mk2 petrol VRS the 245 replaced did under similar usage. So I think its fair to say if you have a Mk2 petrol VRS and you're not getting 40mpg out of that you shouldn't expect a VRS245 to do so either.

Took mine into Loughborough the other day all urban low speed limits and surprised to see 45.4MPG on this relatively short 10 mile journey!

APR has released a remap for the 245 and Golf PP.  Not sure if it's the same 2.0 tsi map or one that is specifically for the 245 .

Top speed 169mph

0-62 - 5.5 seconds

It's in German but the description is below.  For anybody thinking of taking the jump.

IT'S UP! Here is the long - awaited Videolog 7 and thus the launch of the software for the Golf 7 GTI facelift performance and the Octavia RS245. As a nice saying says: What lasts long is good at last. And it is definitely good. We can achieve over 300 hp without hardware adjustments up to 500 nM torque. Our Videolog 7 also shows that additional hardware brings in Stage 1 its benefits. So drives our own RS245 now with strong 330 hp. This also drastically reduces the times from 100 to 200. We are ready for the Stage 1, Stage 2 and of course for the popular IS38 upgrade. Opinions? No problem! Are you fueling a special fuel? Also not an issue. We offer you 95/98 and also 102 Octan polls. And that does not stop the good news. You had to wait a long time and we want to honor that! And so we will give you a whopping 15% discount for all RS245 and GTI Performance Facelift customers by the end of August to celebrate the market launch. Have fun with our video. We look forward to seeing you! Power dates! It starts!

Sounds like they borrowed my car. Every 245 owner should check they can get there wheels off because my nearside rear was a bugger to remove today due to a build up of rust around the hub where it mates upto the wheel. All 5 bolts had been removed and it was stuck on so hard I nearly had a hernia pulling it off and I am 95kg of muscle not some little whimp! Might be worth checking or you may get stranded by the side of the road if you need to put the spare on and can't get the flat off. The other 3 wheels presented no problem at all!

Couldn't get the n/s back one off mine at six months old.

Yes, but no over 4500rpm

You don't have to with 467NM of torque available. Poor Golf R owners only have 380NM at their disposal! HA HA LOL!

Seems to be a common issue then, never had this happen to me before in 35 years driving!:angry:Same wheel for me too.

Same here. Never had any issues getting a wheel off any any car old or new in 37 years.

Cleaned all four wheel hubs with wet & dry to get rid of the rust will have to keep an eye on it going forward!

There's a lot of visible rust on all 4 of mine.. Surely it can't be normal, registered in September and I've done 15k in it

Some copper grease may be the answer maybe.

It did seem odd because although this is the first time I've removed the Extremes after 12,400 miles the inside of the alloys were extremely clean considering I drove with them on the car for the whole winter, unless it's sub standard materials being used around the hub area.:notme:

Maybe only usually need it on the wheel bolts though!:notme:

Hope your run of bad luck has ended.

anyone with stage 1/2/3 dyno charts?

If it happens again, remove all bolts and lower jack carefully a few mm - just enough to put enough pressure on the hub/wheel mating surfaces...wheel will fall away, jack car back up, job done.
