To be clear, I’m not ‘frowning upon’ 100mph as I know the 245 can do that speed very safely in the right circumstances.

I am simply suggesting the poster is careful (on a public forum) about his posts relating to the speeds he gets up to on his (presumably) UK commute.

Just carried out experiment on the M1 motorway yesterday and today. Observed without exceeding the speed limit of 70mph that over 34 miles was overtaken by 95% of the traffic, only HGV's didn't overtake me. Conclusion is that 95% of traffic on our motorway network break the speed limit, ignore the speed limit or don't actually know what the speed limit is! Therefore as Jesus Christ once said to the baying crowd, let the person who has not sinned (exceeded any speed limit) cast the first stone!

In the UK if you are caught doing 100mph (in fact 30mph over the speed limit whatever the speed limit is) then you can expect to be taken to court and receive an automatic ban usually at least 30 days.

It's a risk some people are willing to take - I'm no saint in 2003 I was caught doing 77mph in a 50mph limit (27mph over the limit) and was given the option of paying to attend a speed awareness course AND get 3 points on my licence, or opt for a court appearance which would result in a large fine AND 6 points - guess which option I took?

Not always true..

One of the girls i work with is a magistrate, and they do take into consideration previous history.  If you have a clean licence, they pretty much urge you to take 2 weeks holiday and give you a 2 week ban.  She said its not in anyones incentive to put someones job/family at risk for a minor motoring offence.

160MPH indicated as standard and 165MPH modified, both on a decent German motorway of course. Could have probably got 168MPH out of it but Toyota SUV with no mirrors curtailed the fun when it pulled into my lane at 110KPH.

Was that GPS verified, or speedo?

If speedo id take off 5% for a better indication of true speed.

Just speedo maxidot (big digital numbers) indicated. Didn't even glance at the rev counter as 5,500 revs in 6th gear would have been fairly accurate 165mph due to the gearing. I was understanderbly looking as far up the road as I could for any possible hazards (Toyota SUV). I also have excellent eyesight, can see a traffic light change from red to green or vice versa at 1,000 yards.

Having driven at speed in Germany lots issue isnt the person pulling out on you, but the fact that your travelling so quick they look up ...your not there, pull out and all of a sudden your in their mirror!

Doing close to 190 in my 911, passed a mate who was turning off for fuel at about 70mph, and he said the speed i went past him was frightening and i just disappeared into the horizon!

Fair play, yes 70mph is often too slow and everyone overtakes. And yes, I have transgressed (by not very much - 68 in a temporary 60 on a motorway!) and have the points to prove it.

Just saying it’s perhaps not the best idea to publish your speeding (in actually saying how fast you were going) in public.

Having thought about it though, you are not going to be prosecuted without the evidence.

But, an insurer could look on here and form a view, as could a prosecutor if they are deciding how severely to punish you if you do transgress.

ETTO anyway.

Not all magistrates think like that - see my follow up post, both of my former colleagues had a clean history and had permanent jobs in a high-tech company to support families, yet both got a 30 day ban.

As with most things in the UK it appears to be a Postcode Lottery...

I understand what your original point was but it was my choice/decision to share that information and it was to demonstrate that you can drive quickly and safely but also achieve good economy as well, because some folk that you can't achieve both. Talking about points managed to avoid 3 points a few years ago when I drove past a fixed camera which I knew was there at 36mph in a 30 limit. Even saw the double flash of the camera in my rear view mirror (Mk2 Superb). Was clearly thinking about something else at the time, but accepted a speed awareness course and the £90 cost to avoid the 3 points, so have a clean licence.

It’s very easy to get caught now. Cameras and temporary speed limits everywhere.

You really have to have your wits about you all the time these days.

I NEVER speed on the motorway because it's 70% of my commute!

Prob with motorways and cars nowadays is its VERY easy to hit 80 without any intention to do so.

Personal view is that doing 100mph on an empty motorway is less of an issue than doing 32mph near a school at 3pm - courts on the other hand dont see it like that!

Unfortunately these days people can't seem to drive on a 3 or 4 lane carriageway without crashing into each other and speed is not the main problem, it's a lack of concentration!

One of the reasons why people crash into each other on a 3 or 4 lane motorway could be because every one is driving in lanes 3 and 4.

Lanes 1 and 2 are usually empty.  HGV's only

The near misses I see on a regular basis involve car in lane 1 pulling out to overtake HGV when at the same time dosey driver in lane 3 wants to occupy same piece of tarmac as the driver pulling into lane 2 to overtake. I am normally found in lane 1 with the lorries by the way.

Now a fully fledged member of the club after this mornings delivery!

Finally,it's worth the wait:DENJOY.

The Vrs is finally here in Singapore! Took it for a test drive and have to say it's almost perfect (just don't ask how much it cost here). The ride is firm but not crashy (it is not specced with DCC).

Question - does anyone on models without DCC know if changing from normal to sport mode will also stiffen the suspension? From the test ride it seems to be the case. Just very slightly.

In my experience in the wet PZeros are not good for keeping clean underwear - low grip, lack of feel and short life. Vowed they will never be on any car I own ever again.

They seem fine to me, including running all through the winter. From past experience of Pirelli they won't last long, but grip/braking/handling etc seem OK to me.

Agree ran mine all winter they coped with a bit of light snow. The came with the car so were effectively FREE. Mine should last 30,000 miles if I rotate them at 15,000 miles.

Don't think so but it may well change the steering weight which might be what you are detecting?

Yeah no difference to the ride in different mode with steel springs but heavier steering in SPORT (which I don't like so I have my steering in NORMAL).
