Manual or auto?

Those figures don't sound too far off what I get in my dsg estate after 5k miles. We get a bit better that you in urban traffic but that's taking it very gently and leaving start stop on. Should get a bit better on a run if you're not constantly on the brakes or accelerator but I wouldn't say your figures are so low that I'd be worrying about any sort of problem.

Hi it’s auto! Thanks for your response reassuring to no it’s not far away! Love the car will just put fuel out my head? It just keeps showing me each time I switch it off what the mpg is, once again cheers

I avoid that problem by getting out the car really quickly so I don’t see the mpg displayed 😂

I wouldnt worry about mpgs and just enjoy the car. It is a powerful petrol turbo so will be thirsty and real world driving will be nowhere near what Skoda quote.

Short runs are the killer on mpgs and the figure you are seeing is average and not actual. The more short runs you do the more it pulls the average figures down. I have a diesel 184 VRS and on long runs I get 56mpg. But round town I get 44mpg and it drops the more short runs I do.

My smiles per mile far out weigh a few quid spent in the filling station, it's a VRS FFS😂😂😂😂

Hi the man!!!!! Not worried about putting fuel in???? Just thought it was a bit crap On fuel at slow speeds😂

For me, the fact the 245 can return 40mpg+ when I need it to be a dependable mile muncher but also turn it's hand to being a  fairly fun 'performance car' (as far as a family car with a bigger engine and stiff suspension can be) is its real party piece. It is very difficult to beat as an all rounder for the money.

I agree Kenai, I have had mine since September and I love it. I got a 245 Challenge Hatchback and it is a great all rounder. I can get early 40’s mpg from it on a steady run and early 30s in country B roads. More than enough boot space and pace if you need it.

Hi dean, mine is a 245 challenge hatch dsg too, noticed my ŠkodaConnect not working at the moment is yours working???

I never subscribed to Skoda Connect in purchase so unfortunately I do not have the benefit of Connect.

Okay no problem, I did ,find it handy when it works helps avoid traffic jams and road works!! But been a few times when it’s not working!if you ask Skoda they are no help wha☹️tsoever

At the risk of upsetting Tony a small update on the eve of my 245 turning 28 months since I collected it. Fuel cost so far £4,251.11 (14.86 pence per mile) consisting of 3,218.51 litres or 707.99 gallons over 28,598 miles. Previous report on page 49 at 24 months. Overall average dropped slightly due to colder temperatures and now 40.39 (was 40.55) mpg.:)

Traffic and route planning by sending desintations via the mobile app are the two things I use it most for, I admit I paid to renew for year 2 as its useful. There do seem to be random times it just doesn't work or show a connection in the car. I've traced my issues down to about 3 things.

1. the giffgaff sim in the old android phone I keep in the boot to run the hotspot on has run out of data  - rare but has happened.

2. the infotainment system is being fussy/messing around or skoda connect is down - no connection full stop despite phone hotspot working perfectly

3. the phone in the boot needs a restart or has automatically restarted (hotspot needs restarting). The first issues shows up as WLAN being available but red and no apparent internet connection, second no wireless connection full stop.

Maybe in my next car it will work that bit smoother, it does most of the time but those 3 occur every now and then. 3 was needed yesterday.. a forced restart of the phone.

Not sure how many buy a 245 to save fuel!  I bought it for a bit of fun and the practicality.  Fuel usage wasnt top of my list.  Each to their own!

I don't think spending £3,000 on performance upgrades and taking it on 2 track days signifies my priority with this car was economy. I wanted a large 5 door hatch with a massive boot that had excellent performance but that could average 40mpg IF you keep to the spped limits on the public highway. Also cheap road tax and insurance considering over 300bhp with my modified car.:)

Is that 1bhp for every time you’ve mentioned it?

...Yet to see anyone on here getting 40mpg average over more than 25,000 miles using a standard 245 DSG let alone a stage 2 modified car.:)

Most of the 2.0 TSI owners on here know that whether mapped/unmapped, it  will easily do 40+ Mpg on a decent daily commute/run.  You are probably in the minority of drivers,  whose commute, driving patterns and obvious restraint, allows you to continuously achieve decent mpg.

On short runs I’m getting 15 mpg at best, had car two months best I’ve got is 25 worst is 9

Hi Ash, that’s good too here was scooting about in town today achieved 16 mpg but was fun😄

Yeah you dont buy one of these cars for fuel economy it’s for fun and practically that’s it

9mpg! You do know it is acceptable to change gear before the redline 🤣

Hahahah

A bit over a year and 70000km after buying the RS245 I've got the IS38 Golf R Turbo installed and Stage 3 engine/dsg tune. 245fwkw and 500Nm on a 35C day with zero knock, safe boost level and good timing advance on E30 fuel. This equates to about 370hp at the crank, probably closer to 380 on a cool day. Probably a little bit over the limit of what a front wheel drive can handle but the Falken's do an admirable job of hanging on once they're warm :)

Oh and by the way, the only mechanical problem I've had with the car is a failed waterpump, and that's with the vast majority of miles done with JB4/Stage 2 remap.

I think it's more likely he'd have a Bugatti Chiron if 1 bhp = 1 mention 😂

I did. Well partly anyway. My previous car was a Jaguar XE-S which averaged 28 mpg and before that a 5.0 Jaguar XK that averaged 19 mpg but it was a hot 😂. The VRs does 37 mpg which, for me, is super economical. I do around 12,000 miles a year just commuting - so savings are significant. I bought the car Shy245 owned for a short while - so it had had one careful owner 🙂
