Map update

Featured Replies

Hiya, what’s the easiest way of updating the maps in Columbus. It’s the new hard drive version.

Car was picked up January this year and shows everything 2018 for all countries.

I was thinking to connect to wifi to update. Although internet connection is slow.

  • Leave it downloading overnight   Im on 350mbps so it took about 20 mins for me, in fact it took longer to unpack to my SD card than the downloading of the 25gb

I download the update to my pc overnight then copy the files to an sd card. It works well.

Latest version is 2018/19 and the update is in the thread below. Can't comment on the Wi-Fi update as I don't have that on my car.

Use an SD-card as the update is about 22Gb.

It will take ages to download, no matter how good ur internet connection.

Then approx. 40 mins for the actual update to install.

U do not want ur car running through the download period.

I was wondering if the ignition had to stay on!

And yes our internet speed is poor too!

So the maps will show 2019 instead of 2018?

Maps will show 2018/19. Next update (November or December I believe) will be 2019.

What’s the reason that the update portal says that there is no update for this VIN when the maps show ECE 2015/2016?

Someone stole the VIN?

Can’t upgrade for free through the portal after 3 years? (It’s a MY15 Superb)

Here is the link to the VW maps. They work on the Superb III as they are identical. I've already updated the maps on my L&K Columbus.

Skoda are always slow with updating the portal and when they are preparing to issue the updates (due for issue August 2018) the VIN number gives the message "There were no maps for the VIN" you are seeing. I see the message on my MY2017 too.

It means ur car's VIN was not added to the update portal's database........

Finally! The new 2018 map update on the update portal is live now, I got it downloaded (25GB) just now for my VIN. Now I just need to get a SD card then I can finally leave 2015 behind!

Yes it's officially there now for my 16 plate Superb

That's not the latest one - it's the one that has been on the portal all year. It should say ECE 2018/2019 and is best downloaded from the VW links.

I've just checked the update with my VIN and it is ECE 2018/2019 - will download later and go and try and find my 32GB SD card to update at the weekend!

So I did the map update today. Took about 30 minutes. But... I’m not 100% sure, but I could almost swear that the speed limits shown on the side of the maps are gone now, either that or the two roads I drove on when noticing it don’t have the speed data now for some reason. I checked the map settings and traffic signs was activated.

Can that happen after a map update?

The car don’t have traffic sign recognition, it just displays the speed limits from map data, well it did before the update.

Update: The speed signs are still there on the map, but they seem to be missing from smaller roads, some roads are yellow and those show the speed limit but the white ones don’t. Odd change.

sadly I'm getting errors with the MRM 2018/2019 maps sourced from the Portal.

I've done updates in the past before with no issues.

this time the Columbus is not happy about it :(

getting the following error:-

@JR RS

did you unpack Mib1, Mib2 folders directly to flash,

without parent folder 'HIGH12_P169_EU_2018_2019'?

Hi @JR RS. I suspect a corrupt download. I had the same thing a couple of times when I downloaded using the link in the embedded thread at the top of this page. Try the download again (I know it's a pain with 25GB to do) - mine worked on the third attempt.

Just as a matter of interest, is the download from the portal just the same as the one in the embedded thread? If so, why bother waiting for the portal when it's available much earlier from other sources?

Did update yesterday.  Notice a slight change in road colours - I spotted some pink roads when driving back from shopping, could swear they weren't there before.  When glancing down some "pink" roads I note they're single track, or very narrow lanes.

Speed signs still there as far as I can tell.

Hmm, don’t think I have any pink roads. This is the 2018/2019 maps, right?

I was a bit too early and got the 2018 maps. But I just downloaded the 2018/2019 maps so I’ll try updating to those maps, maybe the speed limits on smaller roads show then. Big roads, yellow colored, still have the speed limits.

Yeah I just noticed a corrupted file when unpacking to the SD card, a file related to the russian maps.

Yes.

Tis not the first time I'm doing this.

I've successfully updated my Maps twice over the last 12 months.

No issues before.

I've downloaded from the Skoda update portal twice now, and once from a direct link I had - all no good.

That 75gb in downloads over the last 48 hrs.

Others here in Oz are getting the same errors too with the MRM 2018/2019 Maps.

I can't find a contact email for Skoda to tell them the MRM Maps in the portal is corrupt!!!

sorry, i didn't meant to sound rude/abrupt.

but yes, i made sure the mib1, mib2 and metainfo2 were all in the root directory of the sd-card.

yes, the unpacker tried to put the contents under the "HIGH12_P71_MRM_201819" folder, but i deleted that folder reference before unpacking, as that's not how it was the previous 2 times i updated.

maybe i should put that folder name back and try again..........

I may have only noticed it because I was looking, but there were definitely pink roads.  This is the 2018/19 update - the latest one.  I know it's updated as, before update, our home street wasn't there (new build in 2014), but now is.  Who knows - perhaps I was seeing things.  Will check again tomorrow when I drive to our other office.
