Not too bad. I was expecting you to say more.

Me too. I had something similar done to an old company Mondeo a few years ago and I'm sure it was nearer £1000. That was a main dealer fix though.

What's the plan with the trim on the AC controls?

A friend is 3d printing one for me

It's car insurance renewal time next month and quotes from the comparison sites were coming out at around £285 this year. Imagine my surprise when my current insurer sent my renewal notice through and they'd dropped it from £330 last year to only £216 this year and that included both my daughters as named drivers this time too!

When accepting the renewal I changed my marital status from married to widowed and that added on another few quid to bring it to £230. Not sure why being wife-less would make a difference but at £100 less than last year I bit their hand off.

Renewed my insurance a few months ago & to my surprise existing insurer also dropped my premium. Quick check around & quotes were generally lower than previous years. Not sure what is causing this but I ain't going argue!! However, I hit 70 next year which is normally a trigger for higher premiums.

I was with Chris Knott brokers for a few years and last year they couldn't find anyone to insure me (I'm 78)

I went with Admiral for £700 (I live in central London and park on the street). After a year of only having to bill me, they sent this year's premium, which was an increase of £100.

I did a GoCompare and ended up with Aviva for £400. Admiral called and said they would match the offer.

Sounds like Admiral were ripping you off at £700 if they were prepared to match the £400 Aviva price. Out of principle I would not have renewed with Admiral. Good price for your age & location.

My policy is that any supplier gets just one chance to quote me & give me their best price. Anyone who comes back with a subsequent lower price when told I'm cancelling, I'm not renewing or not accepting their quote, doesn't get my business. It's the only way to keep them on their toes - at least in my mind.

Exactly. I told Admiral that I was not playing that game.

Hopefully not for £110.

Something that annoyed me since I had my superb was the chrome peeling on the passenger door handle. Part from tps is £110 spent ages looking for a breaker that would just sell me the handle and not a full door card and finally a local breaker agreed today 😂

That peeling chrome is also flipping sharp, I had the same thing happened on part of my gear lever and I often cut myself on it.

No otherwise I’d have just bought it from tps

yeah my octavia had it on the gearstick and was peeling and pretty much stabbing yourself each time changing gear

Reset gearbox adaptations using OBDeleven whilst on my travels today.

It feels like it’s not slipping the clutch as much, if that makes sense; snappier to pick up, more responsive and smoother through the gears, definitely feels much better.

As I always say - look at IDA or PVD websites for Detailers near you. These will be properly trained and qualified guys who’ve been taught what to do and why.

There are guys who just do it and have built up experience but these may be hit or miss. Get someone who’s got a proper professional setup 👍🏼

Have decided to go down the detailer route.

Spoke to a local company during the week and he’s coming to inspect it on Monday before looking at what route to go down.

We had a lengthy conversation about what I’ve done already, and I feel confident with his honesty on what I can expect to be achieved with what options he thinks are best once he’s checked it out.

Interestingly, he told me to set the climate control to recirculate whilst driving to see if the smell comes back, which it doesn’t, so at least it’s not trapped in the vents and pipe work (to my mind at least). Whether that’s a good or bad thing I don’t know!

Thankfully, the car is significantly better than it was, and there’s only the slightest of whiff now when it’s been sat in the sun, so I’m hoping he can steam clean the roof lining and soft plastics to get rid of the smell in those areas.

I’ll report back in due course!

Looks good ! Did you get it printed in the end?

Do you make the immobilizer and CP yourself?

Just gotta be careful on not using too much steam on it. Usually wrap a flannel around the end of the nozzle and use the steam for a little heat and moisture and have the flannel do the rest.

I’ve not got round to it yet. Still waiting on my 3Q0 module

How do you do the Immo and CP? Read the EEPROM file, edit it? ODIS online? Is it factory new? With used Virtual Cockpits, the factory now has to manually enter the VIN into the database, which is based on the VIN read by the tester.

I don't need your secret, I just wanted to know if you do it yourself.
