Just gotta be careful on not using too much steam on it. Usually wrap a flannel around the end of the nozzle and use the steam for a little heat and moisture and have the flannel do the rest.

Thanks Lee,

Car’s being deep cleaned in a couple of weeks, and steam cleaning’s going to be used; the detailer said a similar thing about being careful not to soak surfaces or risk damaging the plastics.

In a way I was gutted when he looked at it yesterday morning as it was cool and the car had been in the shade, so there was no smell 🙄

Thankfully (I think!) it was a little stinky yesterday afternoon after it’d been sat in the sun, so I’m not imagining it.

He does want me to park it in the sun before he arrives, so he can then focus on the areas that are smelling the worst.

I’ve got to manage my expectations, but I’m sure he’ll get it somewhat better.

Will report back in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I’ve got it booked in to have the ditch finder generals replaced with Pirelli All Season SF3 next week.

Cheers,

Nick

Recently we've been on 25 day trip to Lithuania to visit SWMBO's family and friends by car. We went on the Harwich-Hook of Holland overnight ferry, stayed overnight in Bielefeld, Poznan and Bialystok before arriving in Klaipėda for 13 nights in an apartment we rented. We then went on to Vilnius for 3 nights before heading home, staying in Warsaw, Dresden, Arnsberg and Calais before taking the ferry to Dover.

The car behaved itself all the way and just needed petrol. The outward journey went smoothly with no delays, though we ran into some heavy rain at times in Germany and Poland. The return journey wasn't so good, as there were long delays around Wroclaw in Poland with roadworks and around Essen in Germany, where the A40 was closed for resurfacing, where we got a bit lost in the town.

The results of our trip are as below. The mpg suffered on the way home in the holdups as it was showing just over 55mpg when we arrived in Klaipėda, having shown a best of 59mpg driving through The Netherlands with their speed limit of 100kph. The mpg would have also been reduced a little by lots of small journeys around the cities where we were staying in Lithuania.

Dash works 😎 also does let you roll back the mileage so I should be able to get it to match mine when I get round to fitting it

With the right tools it has always been possible to adjust the mileage

I know but everyone seemed to say only forward not back

I have only set Back

My VC cost me 250€, ready in the vehicle with a new display even

Forward was the choice because it was easy. VC on the table with a gateway and OBD cable and a free tool for simulating speed.

But that's already the newer VC. I still have the older VC with MIB 2.5 in my S3 vFL.

But it's nice that everything works

VfL Immo 5A Facelift Immo 5C

Uploading Attachment...

Replaced rear shock absorbers. There was a bit more than 'light misting' going on with the old ones, and not a lot of damping! Car feels much more stable now and road noise is reduced.

Are you going to install MIB3 as well?

No, why?

How are you going to connect this VC with MIB unit? Mib has fiber optic, this VC has ethernet

Edited by zacko_O

You misunderstood. The VC in general cost me €250. Not the same. And the VC doesn't necessarily have to be connected to the MIB. It just lacks convenience features. And the reference to the immobilizer was rather general, that you can't legally get the newer VC into a VfL.

5C is the latest anti-theft system.

5A is the old anti-theft system.

2015 to 2019 use the 5A anti-theft cockpit.

2015 to 2017 r MIB2 units, but can't connect to VC.

2018 to 2019 r MIB2.5 units. These can connect to VC with fiber optic.

Superb produced after 2020 is classified 5C anti-theft. 5C is Ethernet based.

Facelift uses MIB3 units.

If the anti-theft system and the cockpit do not match - it won't work.

Can be connected after conversion, in case MIB2 High. Mine 2015 MIB2 High has fiber optic, then was converted into 2.5 and successfully connected to VC

btw, apologies, I quoted incorrectly, the question was to AMD87

Isn't the latest Immo 5D, on the MQB EVO platform? But the master is no longer a cluster. I can only change the mileage on 5C&5D.

Mk4 Superb is MQB EVO.

Hence 5D is not applicable to mk3 Superb.

Mk3 Superb (pre-facelift or facelift) is MQB (1st Gen).

No point trying to fit a VC from a Mk4 Superb into a Mk3 Superb!

Everything's fine. I wasn't sure if they were speaking in general or referring to the Superb 3.

Was doing some research and found a Facebook post which said the immobiliser on the clocks is only applicable to kessy 🤷🏻‍♂️

Besides engine oil, mentioned elsewhere, I replaced rear brake pads, installing ATE Ceramic - I am following travs' steps, but there are a loooot of steps 😁

Old pads were worn to the middle where the "indent" disappears. I have no idea of when they were replaced, they were ATE so I guess not original? Although the car was in warranty? Mistery ....

They could have lasted a while more, but I got several long-distance journeys planned ahead and I might not be able to plan maintenance when required, so I had the chance now and leave it out of the list. I had seen where somewhat worn when I put the summers, so it was in the list "to do".

Brake feel has instantly changed - more responsive, exactly what I was kind of "missing" if you understand ...

When I get the swap to winters with check fronts - begininning of the season were ok - and plan accordingly.

I got also the coolant "ready" from VW but I was at my friend's service and had forgotten to take the VCDS with me, so I could not know if there is an option to open any valves/pumps, so worked with the vacuum pump we must have done what I reckon is an incomplete drain/fill, circa 4 liters went in against ... I could not find what the capacity is. Well, the type is the same, for now it'll do. If I have time will go at it again.

Forgot to mention about the brakes ... the slider pin section of the caliper bolts were bone dry, with a solidified hint of a dab of grease put long time ago. Once properly cleaned with scotchbrite and greased, the movement within the support was like .... night and day.

I was surprised because usually I see this in much much older and more "traveled" vehicles ....

I recommend to all of ya that have passed some years or mileage, set aside some time, especially if your swap tires, to remove bolts and verify, and ensure are in proper maintained condition!

It is a simple job, does not require specialized tools, just some patience and care.

any pics of the said place?

i strongly believe my brakes need this treatment.....

Don't have pics, but it is easy to explain .... on the rear of the calipers, you must access the bolts. You can see the "end" of the bolt in the outer area of the caliper, one above it, one below it.

There are two plastic covers, then the bolt is accessed, in my case was a hex 6 or 7.

The bolt is actually a threaded pin ... here is what it looks like:

and the pin slides back and forth in the rubber, which if greased it allows sliding, if is not, it restricts or inhibits proper movement of the caliper ... that is all 🙂

First MOT for my 2019 Superb since I bought it in my, just over 70,000 miles and it sailed through with no problems. The front dampers are leaking but the MOT tester said it wasn't enought to warrant an advisory. Still given I've got an extended warranty for another 12 months it's on my list to get replaced.

New boots and panties fitted on Friday…well just new boots…

Runway Enduro Sport ditch finders (fitted to the car when I bought it) replaced with Pirelli Cinturato SF3 All Season all round, and the difference is fantastic.

I’d narrowed my choice down to the SF3, Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 and Continental AllSeason Contact 2.

After a lot of agonising and perusing the Tyre Reviews website I went for the SF3. While I’d had a great experience with the Continentals on my previous car, I wanted to try something a little more sporty (and with improved dry and wet grip), and, as the Superb isn’t the most dynamic of wagons, I didn’t want to dull it down even further.

At first I thought the knew tyres hadn’t been balanced properly, but I’m actually experiencing road feedback now; the car isn’t being blunted by extremely bouncy balloons, and feels like the suspension’s had a mild freshen up…it feels more dynamic than with the Runway Sport…

We did a 200 mile round trip visiting my folks this weekend, and with Mrs Cubbington doing the driving, it was very nice place to be as a passenger. The Pirellis are significantly quieter than the Runways on all surfaces, and while it could be argued that they’re not as comfortable as there’s more feedback, the car doesn’t feel like it’s bouncing around so much, so feels a lot calmer and relaxed.

We experienced a mix of weathers, and it felt like it was just pushing water out of the way when we hit some deep puddles and standing water; in comparison the Runways were just scary, as wearing them the car just floated and I felt like a passenger when it hit any significant water…

Overall very impressed so far, will be doing a good 600-700 miles this weekend heading north, so sure I’ll be hitting a mix of weather again to put them through their paces and get them properly bedded in.

It was funny how the guys at the tyre fitters didn’t question why I was binning three almost new tyres, and one of them commented on how, and I quote, “f***ing ****!” Runway tyres are…
