Not long, about 25 minutes, it wasn't that bad to be fair for 5k miles.

Blimey, quick. What did you use?

Just Simoniz Tyre and Trim cleaner.

New front pads today. Turns out there is no brand on euro car parts that doesn't produce a **** special version to sell on there, so all of them squeal like train brakes, eat the discs and fade after 3 roundabouts around milton keynes.

Things to note:

Despite not being listed as compatible, ebc redstuff dp32150c fit just fine (32127 for 280ps). Mine didn't come with new screws and wear sensor so be aware. They're £88 on ebay.

Rear pads need a bloody 7mm allen key. It's not part of any kit whatsoever. Halfords sell one.

Front pads need a 17mm, ideally thin spanner to hold against the pin while unscrewing with a 13mm socket or i assume a t40 torx bit.

**** pads leave a lot of caked dust that just layers on top of itself. Gotta keep poking until it's shiny.

The brake wear sensor seems to be universal fit between pads, but it's skoda/vw specific on the connector side

Never off road, but where i live is like small city, island is only 9 x 5 miles so you are through the gears all the time

The Superb went in for its second (my first) service this morning. Just got home from dropping it off. Not a major service, just oil & filter, pollen and brake fluid. Big service will be next year's one.

Car has done 13,900 in two years (8,400 in the last year since I bought it).

Well, that didn't go to plan. Just picked the car up from the dealer after its service - complete with a fresh 6-inch scrape on the passenger side corner of the rear bumper (right down to the black plastic). To say I'm angry and extremely upset is an understatement.

While they didn't admit fault, the owner of the dealership, when confronted with it immediately said they would have it repaired at their expense without any argument or hesitation. It's going back in a couple of weeks to have that work done.

This is why doing a walkaround of the car with a staff member before and after to agree on pre-existing issues, which thankfully i did, is so important.

If the dealer has a very professional experience and applies best practices, this is the standard procedure before he starts doing anything.

This is exactly how they do by my local dealer.

No car enters the workshop without a proper visual inspection before. Then no worry when you get your car back.

I've had a random message on the maneuver brake system for a few weeks. It only appears on cold starts. I'm gonna make a VCDS scan to see what it is, but I've already booked an appointment by my local dealer to get this sorted for sale.

Hi,

My local dealer made following diagnostic: Battery is a bit weak. This is what raises the error message on cold start in the morning by cool temp.

I'm then not very surprised since I drove my Mk3 for less than 200km over the last 6 weeks. Additionally, the dual dash cams draw a bit of current and even generate a "8531970 - Quiescent Current - U1406" fault code in VCDS diagnostic.

I've measured only 11.99V after a 20km drive, back from the dealer. I forced it in 5th gear, to have higher revs to improve battery charging (without forcing a DPF regen).

I intend to load my battery a bit so that the buyer has no worry with it (he should pick my/his Mk3 up on saturday). 2 days later, it has dropped down to 11.58V.

I was then asking myself if there's a special procedure to load the AGM battery? I have to say I never had to load a battery on any of the cars I owned.

Just plug the battery charger on the battery + & - (engine & contact OFF)? Or is there something special to do?

Yeah I know, I could read the manual... Sorry.

Yes, don't clip the -ve terminal to the battery, clip on the earthing point in the engine bay, so that the battery condition module will be aware that the battery is being charged. If you attach it directly to the battery, the module will not be aware of the fact you charged it, and so could behave as if the battery is flat as the module would not have been aware of any current flowing into the battery.

Thank you Graham, I've actually noticed that there's a spécial part on the - terminal, where to connect the battery charger.

I had in mind to respect this point.

Apart from that, nothing special?

U need to connect the Negative end of the battery charger to the car chassis, not the negative terminal!!

No thats it, as long as you connect the +ve to the +ve on the battery, you’re good to go.

Thank you guys!

Hi,

Battery reloaded over night. It's now 12.59V. No more error message upon cold start this morning.

Great! Thank you guys.

Delivery to new owner is planned for tomorrow morning. All good! 🙂

Hi,

My Superb Mk3 Estate has gone this morning with its new owner after 136500km and 7.5 y.o.

He's really happy and so am I, since he told me his new Mk3 will sleep in a garage, which I couldn't do.

Somehow, long term privately owned & run cars become part of the family & it's hard to part company with them. Mine is 9 years old (7 with me) & has 60,000 miles on the clock. Unless I win the lottery I cannot see me parting with it anytime soon. Even then I'm not sure what I would get as a replacement?

@Colin170CR You're right. It's the car I've kept for the longest time compared to all others I've owned, and somehow it has become a little part of the family. When you think to past holidays somewhere, there is always an anecdote or a memory that brings you back to this car.

And I understand your hesitation regarding what could be the next one.

It took me something like 18-24 months to define what will be the next one. And even 2 weeks before I bought my Kodiaq Mk1, I was still hesitating for a Q5 Mk2.

I wish all Superb Mk3 owners many safe and happy miles with their car ! Take care to all of you (and your Superb 😉).

No worry, as said few posts above, I'll still be lurking here from time to time, though I've moved to the Kodiaq Mk1 forum next door.

Cheers!

I did think about a Kodiaq myself when I was looking for my replacement, but stuck with another superb because of the rear legroom was less, I stayed with the Superb.

I get quite attached to mine (except they aren't really mine as it's a company car), I do treat it as if I own it and look after it really well, the company buy them outright and sell them on when the time comes, there's usually several people at work queueing up to buy it, as despite the higher mileage they know how it's been treated.

I spend so much time in it driving up and down the country for my work it becomes a good friend, I've had the Superb from new and now at just over 2 1/2 years old approaching 92k on it.

I've had many new cars over the years and don't get the new car excitement any more so quite happy to keep it until I'm forced to part with it - not looking forward to that day.

When I have to replace it I'm thinking of a mk4 Superb PHEV (although there may be newer Skoda models out before then so I'll see nearer the time).

Did the second service today on 20k:

  • Oil change

  • All filters

  • Haldex oil w/o filter cleaning, I’ll do it on the next service

  • Brake fluid (maybe it was a bit early for this)

And finally cleaned it inside and outside.

Fitted replacement front Skoda rubber mats to replace the worn out original carpet mats.

I've also bought a boot liner (not an official one), just waiting for it to straightout (it was shipped rolled up) then I'll drop it in the boot.

You did well to order aftermarket boot liner - the OEM one is from something like thin plastic and looks cheap.

I ordered one when I purchased the car, expecting to get rubber liner like on my previous car Octavia 3.

There are two different types of OEM boot liner. The plastic one that has raised edges but is not good at all and very flimsy. The double sided one however is brilliant. Thick, actual rubber on one side and carpet on the other. I had the plastic one as part of my protection pack. Didn’t really fit well and not as useful as I expected and was able to sell it to another member on here, bought the double sided one instead, which I highly recommend.
