It's not practical for me to get to the dealer who I'm talking to so they asked to see pics of all 4 wheels, front and rear of the car as well as all the seats.  Likely the areas often showing signs of use and abuse.    I'll be making the same request 😀.  They can check the service/maintenance record online so that's one less thing to worry about.    All done with the mutual agreement/caveat that if we do go ahead and either car is not 'as described' then we can walk away with no further obligation.

I've never bought a car locally TBH and have done this a few times now.  I always get things put in writing so at very least I know I will get my deposit back.

Thank you. Sounds like an ideal way of doing things.

Did exactly that when trading the Mk2 against the current Mk3. Whole thing was agreed in under an hour (car plus cash from me to swap). Both cars exactly as described, so on the day the handover was completely seamless. I did give the new one a solid test drive (including pressing gadget buttons) when picking it up though. The dealer on  the other hand took my old one down to the first roundabout and back and said "that will do nicely".

Took some photographs of mine and sent them to a dealer for 'remote appraisal'.  A change could be imminent.

No electric Mini I reckon.

Washed and polished (lovely day here), not because the car was dirty, but because I'm looking for any excuse to be outside as long as I'm allowed. Sh!7 !!!  Being 70 used to be fun!

Put a new washer reservoir cap on. €4 from local main stealer. It took less than a minute to swap.

Traded mine in.   Went to look at a Golf R estate and ended up buying one, but not the one I went to see.  Got a good deal and managed to also tap the parts dept for some good retrofit prices

So the lid folds back on itself to form a filler neck?  Great idea.  Have you used it in anger yet?  I wonder if this would fit a 280/272 as the filler cap is on the scuttle under the windscreen.  Not much room above when the bonnet is closed.

I’ve done this retrofit in my 280, it works really well!

I used it straight away, works very well. Never had a problem with other ones, no real need to change other than my boredom!

I have one of those caps on my 280. works fine

Can I ask why the change of heart @penguin17? Will you get it in the garage - ISTR key-theft was a concern when you originally fancied one. And hope you stick around on here once the new motor arrives. I for one have benefitted from your advice since before I even got mine 👍

Above all enjoy it until you see the error of your ways and come scuttling back with another Superb :D.

Haha, thanks Jeff.  I'll still lurk as after all we still have a Fabia on the drive 😁

TBH, I've always had a soft spot for the Golf R and it was the car I wanted to buy when I initially bought the Superb Sportline and I was, as you say, deterred from one due to thefts but I've been 'assured' by a friend in local plod (famous last words!) that thefts of them locally is now on the decline with ST and ST line Fords being targeted due poor keyless security and also, there's a new trend in stealing parts from higher-end SUV's and trade vans.  Apparently easier to shift so less risk to the scrotes.  Everyone deserves a better work/life balance after all 😡

My insurance company have amended the policy with no price change (no admin fee either) so that hopefully is a promising sign.

Anyway...after taking delivery of the 280 I was press-ganged into getting a dog and that was fine as we had another car in the house for doggy duties and we got a crate for him to travel in the Superb for the times we were going further afield.  Well, we've had to stop taking him on longer journeys as he hates the Superb.  He just vomits and gets very agitated.  He's fine in the Fabia but he's now getting a bit too big for it (he should have stopped growing by now!) and with him in the boot we have zero luggage space and it's not the biggest car anyway.  So last year we were putting him in kennels more than we wanted to and he doesn't do well 'in captivity'.  I tried to explain that a Superb isn't just for Christmas but the family had none of it 😁

I looked at a few estates, even another 280/272, in combi form but there was slim pickings on the used market and I can't afford a new one.  I like the engine/performance so just needed to find something similar that was in budget and something I would actually enjoy when not on family duties.   No brainer, Golf R estate!

I called a few dealers and they were all interested in my car but finding a decent Golf R is harder than you think.  Loads on the used market at the mo as all those lease deals from 2-3 years ago have ended, so plenty of choice but the majority have been treat exactly like lease cars.  Managed to find a good one and the dealer seemed keen to do a deal considering the current climate. I went to look at it today and ended up preferring another one which I didn't realise the dealer had in stock.

Shockingly,  it's white which I ordinarily wouldn't care for but after seeing it along side the ('Indium Grey') one I went to look at, I was surprised to prefer it more.  It was also a cleaner example, though it did have 1k miles more on the clock.  The front tyres had 3mm of tread remaining which the dealer wouldn't change for free as they're still legal after all but I prefer to change at ~3mm; they put me on to their parts manager and I ended up getting a very good price on some PS4's.  Since the two rears didn't have much more meat on them and the price was good I ordered a whole set.  I also got a good deal on having a rear camera retrofitted; a dog guard and  divider will be in the boot soon so rear mirror visibility will defo be reduced, I thought a camera would be a good idea.  If all goes to plan I should be collecting it on Tuesday, freshly serviced too.

It's been a couple of years since I've been in the Golf and I really did enjoy the test drive.  Lovely bark and cackles from the exhaust in Race mode and even compared to the 280, it's quick.  Very refined when just tootling.  Counter-intuitively, I find the Golf suppresses road and wind noise better than the Superb.  There's definitely a clear contrast in the character of both cars and rightly so as they are catering for different needs and tastes.  I'm going to really miss the 280, it's an absolutely stonking car and one I thought I'd keep for a long time.  I'm hoping the Golf will be a worthy successor, even if it's only 90% as good then I'll be happy

I'll post some pics next week.

Now seeing as I've done the dog a big favour, the little 5hi7 can sleep in the car and stop it being stolen! 🤔😂

First long life service and Inspection at the local dealer...

Got to work this morning and noticed a bird had managed to hit my rear number plate with a no.2 so had to clean it off before it set like concrete.:o

@Buocius Really awesome pic! Beautiful lights play! Really like this picture! 👏👍

May it should rather be in the 'picture thread' instead... ;)

That's a tilt shift photo isn't it - nice shot.

I was tired of watching the shiny black interior trim get dusty and scratched (despite my care when cleaning), so I wrapped everything in a brushed dark grey metallic vinyl. Not 100% perfect but pretty good for a first time, and I know where it went less well, in case I ever need to repeat. It's mostly about patience, but some technique too. Also did the shinny back facing air vent trim. The photo isn't so great as it was taken in the garage with bad lighting and a phone...

Cheers!

Removed and cleaned the winter wheels (now in isolation in the garage). And refitted the pegasus wheels, PS4s on the back but still have P7 on the front🥴
