VRS Future Classic Maybe? What potential future worth do you see? Also what's the going rate for an MFD1!

Featured Replies

Wow I've not posted in here anything Skoda related for a while, my bad.

cue everyone ripping me about buying two Honda's with problems :x

What do people feel the value is going to be in the VRS going forward?

Reason I ask is I've got a 205 STDT (it's a 1.8 TD essentially a factory build diesel GTI) I'm SLOOOOOWWWLY restoring, and I'm potentially going to be getting my VRS back as my son in law's fixing his A3 (diesel and oil mixing, it's the 2.0 PD...) so once that's on the road I'll have the 205 and the fabia sat not doing alot while I use my Honda Accord as a daily.

205 prices are rocketing, but they have to be in great nick to do so - and I'm wondering if my money is better spent on fixing up the Fabia, which needs a few minor things cosmetically, or a full restoration of the 205 - I don't know what the value on the VRS is looking to be going forward...

I've also got an MFD1, which were rare when I found it, I assume they're gold dust now - what's the going rate on them, because if I keep the 205, the Fabia will be sold with the standard CD player installed and I'd sell the MFD1 separately as it wasn't there when I brought it anyway - It's a one prior owner from new example with full service history up to about 80k then I serviced it myself every 5K, it's been absolutely babied in comparison to some of the nails we've all seen on facebook doing the rounds, the insurance market value when i went to quote insuring it again was around £1900 which shocked me, they seem to be holding value better than I anticipated.

Just interested to hear peoples thoughts :D

According to one recent poster @martinch on here, current MOTs are testing even non-DPF cars to the 'plate' smoke value (see e.g. here), which is likely to mean a lot of 'less well maintained' cars struggling to pass.

That could make the future value go either way, depending on how smoky or otherwise yours is.

Has anyone had trouble with this since the 20th May new test came in?

My old decat hybrid Fabia passed the emissions fine if that's any help.

I can't see the Fabia vRS being a future classic personally. It's not special enough and with the seat and polo pd130 pretty much the same car I can see that keeping prices down too.

I still think the Fabia has a following. Good or bad people who knows. But there is demand. I think the book price is silly as when I sold mine last year it went for substantially more. That's a shame if you had to claim on insurance though for any reason. It's more about what you really want to drive. I for one miss the vRS Fabia, was a quick thing.

I don't think there's any chance of it becoming a future classic, there is a concerted push from VOSA to get older diesel vehicles off the road because the emissions are so harmful.

Bad remaps and deleting the EGR system is going to become extremely counterproductive since these increase particulate emissions, the 'cat' is actually there to deal with NOx rather than particulates so unlikely to make any difference.

@sepulchrave So long as they are allowed on the road, has the making of a cheap rocket. Maybe VOSA and the government signed it death warrant as you say. Wonder if the SE maybe become collectible ?

Nope, same problem, diesel cars are history, they kill people.

Move on, get past it, drive it until it dies.
