Sportline suspension upgrade

So been in with the local garage today, and confirmed it's the dampers knocking. I then dropped off my OEM ones to let them confirm it and it has - silent ride with the OEM's!

A bit rubbish from Koni. If it was the bushing at the bottom I could almost understand, and the retailer I bought from have said that would be addressable, but the damper unit itself, let alone both dampers failing is poor, and apparently very unusual.

I was looking at options for changing all four to something else, however I do really like the ride on the Special Actives, and agree with the retailer in that there's nothing else really that offers a similar function.

At the moment I'm waiting on Koni UK coming back to me regarding it, but I suspect I will be buying two rears and replacing them, and chalking it up to bad luck. Fingers crossed the next ones last longer!

I’m surprised at the retailer telling you the failure is unusual. It is actually a very common fault with the SA shocks.

  • I've made a thread dedicated to the arb upgrade and all related discussion, so let's gather every new comment about it there:

  • Correct, it's far from slammed, let alone "obviously lowered". Its subtle, yet makes a nice difference both in looks and firmness.   The ride has not been compromised one bit.  I don't

Spacers arrived yesterday, here's what they look like on standard sportline suspension.

Maybe they're pleading ignorance then!

Failure points that are very common are seal failure and corrosion. I’ve seen the earlier ones gone after 2-3yrs. Not sure when the revised shock was released to apparently counter these issues. But if you drive anywhere with salt during the winter, I’d still be very cautious, as that has to date been its biggest killer.

I see. Great to hear there's a revision, fingers crossed they'll last me longer this time round!
