Octy VRS Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

Im pulling around 23-27mpg urban. The car is totally standard, whilst i am very careful with the throttle. Gradually since I got the car fuel consumption has decreased, 23-27 is just ridiculous. I have an appointment on friday to get it checked out, what could it be?

As isnt the ecu electronically set?

Traffic round f**ing Manchester is a likely cause.

Also I have tried putting in Ultimate this week to see if this improves things. So far have noticed a slight increase in pickup, but not much difference when driven over 4k rpm.

Not emptied the tank yet, but will post results once a fill up is require.

Jon, your consumption looks pretty bad for a three cylinder engine

:D

For people worried about fuel consumption, why don't you just drive the car at 80mph on the speedo (75 true) on the motorway for a while (30miles) and reset the average MPG before you do ?

If you are getting a lot less than 33/36mpg then something could need checking.

1)My first suggestion before visiting a dealer would be buy a Halfords pencil tyre gauge (no don't use a garage one!) and when the tyres are cold, make sure the pressures are spot on Skoda's recommendations.

2)Second for me would be a bottle of fuel injector cleaner for

Just throwing some more mud into the MPG water (it'll never be clear now...)

Last 2000 miles or so: 27.3 average, according to trip computer 2. This is mostly short (< 10 miles) runs, some 25+ mile, and a handful of 100+ mile runs. Jabba'd Octavia 1.8T (not vRS), with (here's the MPG killer...) automatic transmission.

Last 3000 miles average is 33mpg but get around 36mpg on an indicated 80-85mph (private road of course) run and closer to 40mpg on a steady 70mph ish run.

Thats a std Octavia vRS running on Optimax or occasionally Super/Ultimate when I cant get Optimax.

Paul..

31.20mpg overall over a distance of 6132 miles in a Jabba'd 4X4 Estate producing ≤220bhp. 500 of those miles were with a ginormous roof box on top which will have had a significant effect on fuel consumption. The brochure 'combined' figure is 31.7mpg (vRS Hatch - 35.3mpg) so I have no complaints with my (fuel) figure. :D

Overall (999 mile) average currently says 37.0 - (yes I know it's not a vRS, Jon.)

Fluctuates somewhat, but you have to be really mad to get it below 30. On the Wales Saturday I averaged just over 25, including trip from hotel to start, National route, and journey home. Interestingly (??) the way home (motorway most of the way) failed to add more than a couple of points to the overall average. Chris (H) will attest to the fact that I didn't drive like a pussy on the National route ...

You did have some additional luggage ballast though!

I just did a 380 mile run to Northumberland and got 37.6 average with 85mph on cruise control where possible. also did 387 miles before red light for fuel came on

I get around 30>35 mpg depending on the journey , through the week mainly motorways/urban (CC usually cliked on at 90) , on a steady run to Scotland fully loaded with the Jetski on the back I usually get around 32.

I've noticed that if you keep at around 80 rather than 90 on the mways the consumption goes down by about 3>4 mpg (more mpg).

I normally average about 28-29 on A roads with some motorways. The worst I've had on one run was 19 but then I was in a hurry!

Rich :D

Had to rearrange appointment at my local skoda dealer to have a look at it. However checked the tyre press to find all tyres running quite low at 27psi, filled up to reccomended level, went for a short journey and was pulling nearly 40mpg, think this has sorted the problem. :bdaysmile

Ok, filled up last week with BP Ultimate from empty and put in 47.5 litres.

Today the light came on at 320 miles - up on my 275 last week although

My conclusion exactly !

Just to throw more fuel on the fire...

Yesterdays average (450 mile round trip) was 35.5 mpg, at an indicated average speed of 75 mph. The car was showing 360 miles done with 1/8th of a tank remaining.

Impressive, all things considered ;)

Although if you're reading the speed from the speedo then you should reduce each figure by 5mph for a more accurate value! Although Skoda insist their dials are accurate...

Rob.

I'm surprised none of us deisel brigade have taken the mickey out of your 'impressive' fuel consumption figures.

I will resist the temptation for as long as I can.

Feel free to, it's not like any of us petrol users actually give a :dung: :p
