What to do to regain the mojo

Featured Replies

So all cards on the table I am thinking of moving my 65 Plate MK3 190SCR DSG L&K on

I've looked at loads of cars recently and only the Volvo V90 ticks all the boxes for equipment , safety equipment and space inside (albeit with a smaller but still perfectly useable boot)

It's not that I dislike my I still think it's one of the best looking Estates you can buy

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7dvnUPyiyivoLCB26

But, its I've lost my mojo with it

Recent issues are

Broken rear coil (wear and tear or unlucky but annoying)

Replacement window switch assembly and now the rear window lock button doesn't work correctly (wondering if replacement parts have warranty)

Virtual pedal has stopped working it says

"unplugged" on Skoda's diagnostics

Keyless ignition button is starting to fail

Rear suspension is now squeaking when going over speed bumps and off curbs which is probably bushes , anti roll bars or worst the adaptive dampers .

Drivers seat starting to look a bit worst for wear after around 41k on the clock.

It's gonna be booked in to get most of these things sorted which are all recent occurrences but its just taken the shine off the olde family bus

I am a bit of geek and a bit OCD when it comes to looking after my car and treat it to a good clean every week with the usual  triple buckets , drying towels , wheels Woolies and foam cannons. I am no expert but I do at least try to keep it scratch free .....

What have others members done or changed with the Superb which brought back the mojo and rekindled the admiration for their pride and joy all over again??

It still has everything I would want in a car and is super practical

Sometimes in life, you just need a change. And, unlike many things, a car is easy to change. Treat yourself to the Volvo. :)

Just remember the grass is not always greener, but hard to see anyone being disappointed with any new Volvo.

Having said that any 3/4 year old car will throw up some problems, the ones you mention are not huge and can be easily sorted.  You have to weigh that up against the cost to change figure, which I suspect could be quite large!

Difficult to compare a brand new car with one that is nearly four years old.

If you are feeling fed up with the current car I'd advise you first to get the niggles fixed. Then maybe you could add a pedal box to add a bit of fun-factor? I'd then have a look at your bank balance and calculate the impact of new versus existing. That should tell  you if you really just want a new car.

If you do want a new one, drive a comparable new Superb against your favourite other model. That will tell you which new car you want.

Make a change;  life is too short and Volvo's are pretty much on top of their game at the moment; the V90 would be a very good choice and it's a very classy car; no doubt it will feel a step up from the Superb. Get an extended test drive and see how they compare.  The Arteon estate is also looking very likely to be out this year; I think that could be a nice alternative too.

Before getting a Superb 3 I had a Leon FR ST for 3 years; fully loaded, remapped and probably all the car I could want/need.  It never had a single fault, no error codes..nothing. On paper it was pretty much perfect, I just never 'gelled with it'  it and I regretted buying it within days.  Fast forward to the Superb and I actually get excited when I see it on the drive and I'm an emotional mess once the car keys come out :giggle: if you have an interest in cars and considering their expense I think it's important that you should enjoy them too.

Wow some really good responses for a late Sunday night post

I keep thinking of trying a newer one of mine in a different colour with a pano roof with a beigh leather interior.

This combo was what I Ioved with my MK2

I know technically it is inferior but there was just something about the colour combo tb as subtly impressed and I do miss the full glass roof

I am currently looking at a V90 with everything on it including the Bowers and Wilkins and 4 Zone climate and other Bells and whistles....it's exactly what I am after but it does have a few downsides

It's a 16 plate (Oct 16) but only done 21700 miles

It's Silver which I am a bit ambivalent about

It's for a black interior I wanted something light airy

https://photos.app.goo.gl/kQvmmgntsMt2ZfUcA

It was nearly a £60k car new and it's currently £24,900 (bit of discount)

It has nearly every option that one could want and more toys than the Superb but it's only 9 months newer so I am worried about depreciation and the such

Mine was 10 months old and has 24k on the clock after 2.5 years it now has 43500 on it so additional milage shouldn't be 2 high

The only question is will it fit the dogs in

From a financial side I got a really good deal on bank to loan which I can clear and have around £5k afterwards which is pretty good going

I'm trying not to think about the overall cost bit let's just say it was a stonking deal at the time and I've paid only my monthly loan figure per month ..moving on I can sell  pay of balance and have some money as deposit and then get a new loan for the remainder plus a bit of savings and bring my monthly figure down around £70 a month

You have my full sympathy......I've only had my Superb 208 Sportline 6 months, but had a V90 as a hire car last week when in the UK. It was only the base diesel model, but really couldn't fault it. Really solid, sorted car and went well. When buying my Superb, I drove the Passat 206, Golf R Wagon and Audi A4 Avant, and the Volvo is way ahead of them also. If you have the cash, I'd go with the V90, but the V60 wagon that has just been released is getting good reviews as well.

In the meantime I also need to spend some time on a twisty road with my Superb and find the love again!

Those beige interiors really suit the Volvo, the black feels less special. But the light interior, unless you are a weekend car cleaner, is a bit of a nightmare. IIRC it's very light, more so than the Superb, and seats get grubby real fast.

Beautiful car though.

Having gone from a Superb to a V90, I can waffle on about the differences between the two cars... I'm going to make it simple though. Do it.

It's in a class of its own ahead of the Superb. It drinks a bit more, but it drives so effortlessly and the quality is much more noticeable. Oh, and then the comfort. That is something else! The only thing I can see wrong with the one you're looking at is the wheels are a bit big for my liking. They look nice but I imagine they'll spoil the ride a bit, I went for 18s on mine and it's just spot on. They're not so wide (245) that they get screaming tyre roar, they're not so high profile that handling is a bit floppy, but they're just right. The car doesn't crash over bumps and pot holes in the same way the Superb did.

Like we said with the dog thing too, take them down to your local dealer (Clive Brook Huddersfield are very dog friendly) and see if they'll fit.

It was a while ago when I had a V60 on an extended loan. I found it very nice but one thing I didn’t like which may be the same in the V90 was that the sunset glass was markedly darker than in the S3. This made (winter) night time driving less than ideal.

Not a deal breaker but could be something for you to think about.

I bought a 280 a few months ago and it was a really difficult choice between that and  a V90 D5 (with the B&W👍🏻😌)  only the reason I got the Superb was I wanted a petrol after 20yrs on company car TDIs and the petrol V90 were more than I wanted to spend on a first car in 20yrs.

The V90s are imho one of the best looking cars on the road and are super comfy and classy inside as others stated. I’d say go for it.  I will be in  year or so unless my mind changes before then.

Interesting that it produced 182.6bhp standard when Skoda claim 187bhp. Very similar to a Octavia Vrs diesel which should be 181bhp.

It actually only produced 173 initially because dpf was bit full,  Did a regen and then it went to 182. Been to Germany since and it feels a lot better than it did after the map so it may be even better now. Might pop In and have it checked soon

Unlike you're going to get a reply on a thread from 2 years ago from a poster who only has 3 posts. Maybe he meant to type 206, maybe he meant to type 280.

Maybe it's a mystery that we were just never meant to solve. 🤷‍♂️

But then, his profile does say he was last online 17 hours ago, so maybe he's was just waiting for the question to be asked...

Having owned a Volvo xc 70 d5 manual from 2 years old for 15 years we fully expected that when we decided to change ( nothing wrong with it and 105, 000 miles) that it would most lkely be a nother Volvo, we test drove an xc60 d4 auto inscription and I was completley underwhelmed with the way is handled, performed and wobbled and thumped and crashed down a 'b' road, our son in law has one but a lower spec momentum as he found the same issues , smaller wheels and fatter tyres made all the difference.

I own a Vivaro van and that is much smother empty !

So we opted for the Superb, not the smoothest spec but miles better than the Volvo.

Didn't bother with either the v90 or v60 as in my opinion they are estate car designs but are very poorly sized for luggage space.

The d4 was so slugish and rowdy.

Just my recent experience which was quite a disapointment.
