I have a 2015 Octavia VRS with standard Amundsen MIB 1 unit from factory. I really would like to have Android Auto but unfortunately I don't think the system allows it.

Does anyone know a way to get this function and also without loosing any of the car features. i.e. Park assist/Parking monitor, Satnav etc?

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks

You are correct, the MIB1 doesn’t support Android Auto. You will need a MIB2 radio. Either an Amundsen or a Columbus will do. The Columbus is more expensive with a few more features but if budget is a concern stick with an Amundsen. You can use the standard 6.5 inch screen or an 8 inch screen with an Amundsen, either the PFL Columbus one (5E0919606) or the 8 inch glass panel one from the FL Amundsen (5E0919605M but the APP button does nothing, no big deal). You will need a radio, one of the following:

1. Amundsen MY16 unit 5Q0035864A (without DAB) or 5Q0035874A (with DAB)

2. Amundsen MY17 unit 5Q0035864B (without DAB) or 5Q0035874B (with DAB)
3. Amundsen MY18 unit 5Q0035864C (without DAB) or 5Q0035874C (with DAB)
4. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035020x (with DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)
5. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)
6. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035043x (without DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)
7. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035044x (without DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)
8. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035020x (with DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)
9. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)
10. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035043x (without DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)
11. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035044x (without DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)

All credit to Pawel (Pab567) for this list. You will need to have the Component Protection removed from the radio locally and then I recommend send it to Pawel for the nav, voice commands, SmartLink etc to be activated.

You will also need a USB, part number 5Q0035726E. Hope that helps :)

Hi,

I was looking to ask the same question but for a 2014 vrs. What's the advantage to pawel activating the features? Can it not be done by Skoda when CP is removed?

If thisis an answer that *ahem* is not broadcast online then feel free to PM.

Incidentally, when I bought the car a few weeks ago,  the seller offered an updated stereo (not fitted)  but the screen with nav button and glove box unit with 2 SD card slots.  No idea on exact part numbers, but this should achieve the desired compatibility with Android auto,  but built in Sat nav would only work with a retrofit GPS unit,  correct?

Simple answer, no.

As above, Skoda do not have the facilities to make the nav unit talk to the car, they cannot reactivate the FeC’s in the unit and match them with the chassis number. That’s where Pawel comes in.

Just FYI: replacement usb is not needed if only using android auto. If using carplay then an updated version (part no above) is required.

Only with an Amundsen the 5Q0035724E works for AA but you will need a 726 USB with a Columbus.

Hi Sasha sorry to ask on this thread but do you know if we have to fit the front towing eye for Donington next Sunday. Would rather do it at home before I set off if required. And do we need a helmet like Snetterton last November.

In my email it says wear a helmet and the tow eye needs to be accessible, not sure what that really means. Won't hurt to put it on I expect.

If you can stay on after track time will give you and/or your partner a few passenger laps in the beast if you are interested for comparison.:tongueout:

Depending on what time it is when I leave the track we can do that, I’ll be coming with some friends, maybe my Dad too :)

Removing my spare wheel, rear parcel shelf, umbrella and ice scraper to save weight not that I'm taking it too seriously however I do like to overtake people and know the track very well as I live just 10 miles away from it.

I'd remove your stickers too, for much lightness :mmm:

You need to get the component protection removed

It says getting this done locally how do you get the component protection removed from a unit  ?

You take it to someone who has ODIS-E with a connection to VW servers who can remove the CP.

Ah my local vw specialist I think can do that - thanks for all the info, appreciate it.

May be a dumb question, but this is done out of the car on a bench or something ?

Will need to be done in the car first. Radio’s can be made CP free with mods.

So basically I could

1. Buy one from ebay / scrap yard

2. Fit it in my vehicle

3. Take it to someone to remove CP

4. Remove then send it away for mod

5. Receive back and refit

is that right? Would the mod include CarPlay activation ?

Or is it easier to acquire unit then just send it to be modded to have CP removed and CarPlay added ?

Additional question added :)

All of the above is correct :) The CP deactivation would leave the radio unit with just radio, media and phone functions, no voice, no nav and no SmartLink etc etc. All of these need adding back to the unit which is where Pawel (Pab567) steps in.

With this unit (5Q0035874B) do NOT remove CP, Just send it to me as it is. Do NOT install in the car as it will lock the unit with CP.

Hi Pawel,

I have tried to message you but it says I can't send/ you can't receive messages?

Can you message me and we can chat?
