Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch

A new thread from some person would be interesting titled.

'I live with a person that lives with a Sportline Plus 272 hatch but keeps taking my car'.

Wife has been told she will be working from home for at least 12 months and the best way to kill a car battery is infrequent number of short trips hence I was forced to use it on my 54 mile commute to keep the battery healthy because during a 12 hour shift the last thing I need is a phone call to say her car won't start. I applaud you for embracing the future now which actually started back in 2011 with the launch of the Nissan Leaf.

You could get a £45,000 EV then with more range that would cost less to run than the TDI you are getting.

But the diesel is a Feb 2020 facelift Superb with tonnes of space and is only £22,800 half the price of a Tesla or similar 300 mile EV.

@shyVRS245

I never embraced anything, i got a car for 'Much Cheapness' weekly payment of under £68 including insurance and servicing to drive about while having fun driving without paying for fuel and with the loss of my licence if i get any more points.

Cloak of invisibility and when booting the accelerator and getting a move on there is no noise to draw attention to me.

Ooohhhh.... Well that’s a surprise ! You didn’t keep that long ! I’m just coming up on 5 years with not even the slightest interest in changing.

Mind you my car does have exhaust flaps.......

Guess we can put this thread to bed now then ?

See you soon in my rear view mirror ! :giggle:

John or one of the other moderators can close it next Sunday after I post a few pictures of the replacement which won't be worrying any BMW's let alone Superb 280'S stock or otherwise. You're welcome to overtake as 95% of the traffic on the M1 has been doing for the last 10 months anyway.

Could this be the same neighbour that you had the court case escapade with and their cat’s getting some retribution on their behalf? I doubt that changing your car will confuse it too much though! :o

Remarkably John he has grown up recently now he has turned 50 and is making a real effort to be a better neighbour and only last Friday he said hi and called me by my first name which is the first time that has happened in over 8 years so God touches even those that seem beyond help.

More likely to be all the times I have tried to run it over and now simply karma. It also loves laying on our front door welcome mat and specialises in taking a dump outside our back door so yes it has copied many of it's owner's personality traits.

At least I can loudly applaud the choice of colour as a fellow Leicester fan, albeit now displaced in Somerset........

As you know, we don't use our cars overmuch, especially so this year, so the Golfs get a battery charge every 14 days, 'cos they only come out to play when it's not raining.......

Since the Superb has become the shopping trolley, it does just enough miles to keep the battery topped up. (At least a 8 mile round trip every week plus local shopping trips, long enough to get the oil temp up too.)

In Leicester City Blue. Come to think of it my first blue car. Perhaps I will start liking the Blues music now as well (probably not).

If that's the car you're buying I'd guess that its an ex. Bentley or Ducati company car.

Not changing to save money more like my clean licence. But finance and fuel should be £100 per month better off. TBH fed up looking at a dirty black car which only looks worse with next door's cat paw prints all over it.

My Black Magic vRS was a PITA to keep clean, swapping it for a Silver Superb was a really good idea.............

Finance documents signed and insurance sorted with the very efficient Caroline at LV and even with a £15 admin fee I'm getting a £14 refund as the diesel is 7 groups lower and I reckon next renewal it will be no more than £200.

Finance?

I just assumed you’d that much money in your account from not having bought an Xbox or a PS5 that you’d just be buying it cash?

Almost right it is ex-Skoda Milton Keynes car like my current Superb registered 19th Feb 2020 just before lockdown and Skoda employee probably driving a shiny new 70 plate now. Personal plate on it signifies year wife was born plus Diesel For 1969 Hotels Touring Commuting.

@shyVRS245

I assume that a Skoda Dealership will not sell your car as a Skoda Approved Used car unless the ECU is being put to Factory Settings.

That is if they are aware the car is tuned when taking it as a trade in.

Whoever buys it if it is left with the Remap on could find they have an issue if insured without the declared mod and in an accident where the ECU gets checked.

That has happened over the years where people buy new cars and are unaware of mods / tuning.

They have to just say the car is as i bought it from a seller and i was never told it was not standard as it left the factory.

When I bought my Superb I traded-in my mapped black vRS, the dealer was made aware. They decided that since they would need sell the car with a Skoda Used Car Warranty, as much as they liked the car's performance, the map would need to be removed. It wasn't a problem to get it restored to the factory settings & they were happy to pay for the change.

The dealership is fully aware of what I have done to the car and anyone who buys it will get the laminated remap printout including the name and telephone of the company that made it such a fast yet economical vehicle. Always the best policy to be honest. Told my insurer about the options fitted to my new car as well.

Could you name an EV that's large enough to replace a Mk. 3 Superb for a similar price?

By running an 8-year old Superb which was bought outright back in 2013, with decent fuel consumption & low average miles, (38K miles soon) I'm being nicer to the planet than someone who buys an new EV, manufactured with many expensive materials & powered from a National Grid that's lacking enough base-load generating plant.

@old newbie2  @ only 38,000 miles in 8 years you are using very little liquid fuel and doing very good for the planet that is for sure and not contributing that much in Tax & duty to the exchequer.

No idea what your situation has to do with my post to @shyVRS245 who is the person changing cars.

I can not actually answer your question on an EV the size of a Superb for much cheapness for someone doing hardly any miles.

A business user that can take advantage of the great benefits from the Government via HMRC from running an EV can save a lot of money and lease a comfy new car rather than doing the business driving in a 8 year old car.

I have a 14 year old diesel and will only do 3,000 miles in it at 26 mpg, so i am even greener.

I love the smell of exhaust emissions from a diesel any time of the day or night and share it with others.

I did more than 3,000 miles last month in my EV and paid under £13 for electricity as in Scotland EV's can be charged for free to the driver @ charge time thanks to the Government trying to get more EV's being used.  Everyone is paying, but then they pay anyway for the pollution even if they have no car, and they will e paying more unless the lower emissions the UK Government signed up to are met.

I  can say that a person driving alone or a couple might not need a car the size of a Superb unless sometimes they work as a taxi driver or move lots about with them including a mobile tin home towed behind.

But everyone is free to drive whatever they want.

The national grid is not struggling other than to get electricity used up to balance the grid at times off low usage. Hence Octopus paying people to charge their cars or just use off peak electricity.

There is so much energy being produced in the UK off the British Mainland that is not able to be transmitted to the mainland because the Interconnectors are not there.

http://gridwatch.co.uk

Cracking plants producing fuel are using huge amounts of electricity, as much as a city. Grangemouth has it's own power station running on Oil & Gas to produce electricity to refine products including road fuels.

The highest user of Electricity in Scotland is to get the water around the country and they are going over to renewables to do this.

All those being paid to be on stand by and more paid not to generate electricity and the expensive stuff is coming in from abroad as there are contracts ti be honoured.

Using Cruise Control when there is standing water.

Maybe his employers will consider giving some advice on that, or his insurers might if there was an accident.

It takes all types of drivers obviously...

@shyVRS245  I also read that is around the Kerb Weight of the car which really has no relevance on how it drives around corners with me on my own or with the grandchildren in the back seats.

Personally i would not take full grown adult friends around Scotland in the rear of a Corsa, i would use a proper diesel passenger car & pay around £20 in fuel for every 200 miles as i usually do.

No idea what you think is an important point about  PSA who are also parent company and manufacturers of Citroen, DS, Opel,   they also have ECIA who manufacture a significant number of exterior and interior parts for Audi, Mercedes Benz and BMW.

One of these might suit touring Scotland or even France.

Because I must have Scottish blood running through my body managed 41.7mpg on today's commute with 5 more to follow and some 140 miles until Friday evening plus 11 miles to the dealer which totals 151 miles. The challenge on the final tank is can I get to the dealer with just 160 miles indicated left in the tank.

For the diesel, consider creating an account on either fuelly (https://www.fuelly.com/) or spritmonitor (https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/) to keep an online record of all your mpg data.

Using brim-to-brim numbers would make it much more 'real' than the day-to-day observations of trip consumption figures. At least with fuelly, and probably with the other one, they do a little signature thing so the current average is constantly displayed with every post you make.

For someone so interested in this parameter, it would make sense to do this, I think.
