Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch

Back in the Superb tomorrow for my 3 day shifts and something special should happen on Saturday (tune in to find out). We have decided to do a mini tour of the Peak District in deepest darkest Derbyshire over the Bank Holiday weekend but give the Superb a rest and take the Karoq for it's first decent length drive since February and it has only covered 4,000 miles so far this year. Should like to show wife Buxton and Matlock which I explored as a young cyclist with my brother around 40 years ago. Probably not changed that much TBH.

If you only had a better fuel economy you could get a 678.9 trip...:tongueout:

It is possible to get 678.9 miles from a single tank @Roscio but would need to drive to Italy in one hit to achieve that. Current mileage is 12,430 and the Superb is about to have a rest for one week as I use the Karoq for my 3 night shifts plus our tour of the Peak District later in the week. Solid 42mpg on today's commute and on target for 600 miles on this current tank. :hi:

Your mpgs are incredible. To get these results I guess it takes a lot of patience, that I certainly don't have!

With all good will the best I managed to achieve was 12,5 km/lt - 35 mpg as an average for a full tank of gasoline (on stage1). :D

Patience yes and a wife on longer trips who is not averse to grab the steering wheel or even punching me on my left arm if she feels I'm trying to have too much fun. Fortunately she was not in the car yesterday morning when a White Ford Mustang with full length blue stripes was trying to impress me with his V8 engine sound but I simply drove round the outside of him on a roundabout showing him his Coupe didn't handle as well as my 5 seater limo.:tongueout:

Well anything with the same rear legroom as an S-Class Mercedes is a limo in my book (there are plenty of stretch limo's available for Hen nights and weddings).:whew: Just like to thank God for an epic downpour :rain: here that has saved me the trouble of cleaning my dirty Black car.

I sympathise, my Black Magic vRS was a PITA to keep clean. The Silver Barge always "looks" cleanish, except when it's parked outside, too many seagulls in this area.....

Still looking for a "nice"replacement car that can fit in my 1965 garage, Superb 3's, Passats, Mondeo's are all too long / wide.

Just for @Roscio.

let me tell you my opinion... these cars are made to tranform gasoline into smiles, not to turn gasoline into trips from A to B. Don't be shy and push that pedal!

I mean even without exceeding the speed limits you can very well consume more than that.   ;)

Anyway, just for you @shyVRS245

My average speed is much higher than you so you must try harder to drive faster. My average is 70kph yours only 45kph I win this round.🚲

Just noticed your 39 green leaves which is very low compared to my 85 so round 2 to me and finally your total range is 544km and my projected range is 1,000km so round 3 to me. At least you have a bigger turbo.

ok. But did you know that that number is inversely proportional to driving pleasure, right?

pay no attention to it, in the end it's definitely lower

You must enjoy standing at the petrol pump twice as much I do and paying twice as much for fuel per 1,000km driven. Odd how spending so much on fuel is enjoyable. I prefer to spend my money on laminating my floors.

Halfway through my 6 commutes in the Karoq and the bad weather (storm Francis) has had a dramatic effect on my usual 50+mpg return. Started well in calmer weather with a 57.8mpg but today in strong winds and torrential rain only managed 47.7 and 49.1mpg.:rain:

  • Author

Thankfully the weather has improved considerably today for my last shift until Sunday and to reflect that got an impressive 60.1mpg on tonight's commute, the best so far since putting the 19" Vega's on with the super wide 235 steamroller tyres. Just compare that to Mrs shy's 4 mile home visit earlier which she managed a spirited 22mpg. Just as well she can claim 45 pence per mile off the Council in expenses. Even though it has half a tank left will fill up in the morning ahead of our expedition to the Peak District on my rest days.:emoticon-0157-sun:

Back in the Superb today for 3 shifts over the Bank Holiday weekend and after driving the Karoq for a few days it soon reminds me how effortless the performance is in the big car. Yesterday we did our mini tour of the Peak District starting in Ashbourne, then stayed a couple of hours in Buxton where I bought my wife a nice dress which fitted her perfectly. Then it was onto Bakewell where Bikers were not acting very sensibly and one of them ended up coming off and blocking the road injured. Our final stop was Matlock where we stayed for 3 hours and it was our favourite walking place of the day in total we covered 8.4 miles on foot (19,800 paces) and from home it was 54 miles to Buxton and on the 19 miles to Matlock the Karoq averaged 58mpg which is not bad considering at one point we saw 1,318 feet above sea level. Best quote of the day from my wife was Derbyshire is like a big farm indicating the rural nature of the place. Total distance driven when we got home was 133 miles. All done on a quarter of a tank of petrol.:) Most remote pub we saw was the Cat & Fiddle which seemed miles from anywhere before you get to Buxton.:emoticon-0157-sun:

Filled the Karoq up before we went to the Peak District and last tank was 37.27 litres (8.2 gallons) covering 368 miles at 44.88mpg. Last 3 commutes in the Superb 41.7, 40.7 and 41.4mpg demonstrate how consistent the car is so after 308 miles driven there is half a tank left (310 miles range left) which should get me to 17th September. The since refuelling average on the maxidot is now 39.6mpg but this usually under reads slightly.

Will reach 12,600 miles when I get home later today. Managed a 42 and a 43mpg commute in the last 24 hours and the since refuelling average has improved to 40.2mpg. Will be parked up until next Tuesday as the Karoq will be pressed into service for my 3 nights.🚔

@shyVRS245 is there a specific one thing that you do to get good economy?  Although I don't tend to drive carefully during the week (as my commute is too short and I like to get the heat into the tdi to limit the dpf issues), I still struggle to get it over 50 on a run and have always managed to get good mpg on previous cars.  Average on my old mk2 1.9 was pushing 60mpg.  Current car is around 46 for a 2.0 tdi 150 remapped.  Not great for a supposed economic car.
