Good write up of your initial thoughts and I'll be following this thread with some interest. Quite fancy a Sportline 272 to replace my aging Octavia VRS 220 in the near future. The remap should make this a rather capable stealthy beast!

Agree about the stealth bit and hoping for around 340bhp which should drop the official 0-60mph time from 5.6seconds to about 4.7seconds. It already gets to 138mph alarmingly quickly.

Thought I would create a weekly thread of living with a 2019 Skoda Superb 272 Sportline Plus Hatch with 7speed DSG and 4 wheel drive in order that anyone contemplating buying one can see what the pro's and con's are of owning one. My car is fairly basic being specified by a Skoda employee at Milton Keynes HQ with Black Magic Pearl paint and a spare wheel. Things I really like in my first week with the car are the electric boot, blind spot monitoring and super smooth DSG gearbox and ACC (adaptive cruise control) which make my 27 mile (70% motorway sticking to the maximum 70mph limit) commute effortless. I am appreciating the large 66 litre tank and 3 trips so far over 40mpg (best so far 41.1mpg twice) suggesting over 560 mile range for the first tank (updates to follow). Although my previous car a 2017 Octavia Vrs245 had an electric front passenger and drivers seat (wife now has manual controls), an electric sunroof and a reversing camera the Superb does make up for this with the larger 9.2" Columbus infotainment screen (8" Amundsen in the 245) both cars have ambient interior lighting with a choice of 10 colours which is a lovely feature sadly missing on my wife's 67 plate Karoq SEL 1.5TSi manual in Moon White metallic. Driving wise the steering is not as fast and sharp on the larger heavier Superb (1,627kg compared to 1,370kg manual Octy) but accurate enough and the ride is better in the Superb with 8" wide standard alloys with 235/40R19 Bridgestone tyres compared to the 225/35R19 Pirelli P Zero tyres that were fitted to the 7.5" standard alloys on the 245. Traction seems impossible to break on the Superb with no appearance from the TC (traction control) light on the dash. The analogue speedo only reads to 160mph in the Superb whereas amusingly it went upto 180mph on the 245. Road noise is much less so in the Superb and due to the extra gear 70mph on the motorway is only 2,000rpm whereas the 245 sits at 2,300rpm with the 6speed manual gearbox. As it weighs 257kg more with an auto box and 4 wheel drive I'm not expecting it to match the excellent 40.39mpg achieved by it's little brither over 29,000 miles. My commute involves 14 roundabouts each way so the security given by the 4 wheel drive haldex system is very reassuring. My car was registered on 29/03/2019 and had only covered 4,901 miles when I collected it from Marshall's Skoda, Leicester (who I have been using for 15 years). I have previously owned Mk1 Octavia Vrs in Sprint Yellow, Mk1 Fabia Vrs in Silver, Mk3 Octavia Vrs TDi DSG in Rallye Green and the 2017 FL245 in Black Magic. My Superb came with variable servicing and they gave me the first 2 services for free. Road tax is just £145 due to my car being around £39,000 when new but I paid just £23,840 which represents excellent value compared to the £28,100 I paid for the 245 Octavia in August 2017 (including 4 options). Plenty of photo's will follow on this journey with a stage 1 remap already booked with AmD in Grays, Essex on Tuesday 3rd February costing £450. Happy New Year to all Briskodians and please be nice to each other in this new decade.:)

Just ordered a SportLine 272 combi and loaded it with extras, how does it compare power wise with your previous vrs, I know it’s heavier and 4x4 so appreciate the added weight, I’m coming out of a 190 cr dsg 4x4.

@shyVRS245 congrats on your purchase! Will follow with interest.

Will be interesting to see how the map goes and the power it gets to!

Cheers

Thanks it will be down on your Stinger GTS but 0-60mph should be about the same due to the 4WD traction off the line if we ever end up at Santa Pod on the same day.😆

I may have quoted the wrong kerbweight for the hatch (estate slightly heavier) because a couple of reviews I have read state that it actually weighs 1,554kg but I know somewhere with a weighbridge so might take it there for a definite answer and photo opportunity. Feels like it has around 280bhp as standard running on Shell 99 octane V-Power and I would say that the Skoda claim of 350nm is also on the low side because the 245 was quoted at 370nm standard yet on the same fuel produced 400nm although ultimately the Superb has a bigger IS38 turbo (245 has IS20 turbo) which results in a bit more delay between mashing the throttle and getting going. The Vrs245 was more urgent in any of its 6 gears whereas the Superb builds speed. A stage 2 Octavia is always going to have traction issues particularly with a smaller more immediate turbo but as you are used to 4x4 traction you will enjoy the extra power and refinement. Nice upgrade for you.😐

Torque is the fun one really.  Helps the car feel ‘muscular’ and gives it that proper shove in the back feel!

Really like the Superb 280/272.  Great all-rounder.  You’re gonna have a lot fun.

Does the dsg need a remap?

Optional. Probably won't get it done, depends on how long it takes and how much they want to charge.😐

Week one completed with 225 miles mainly commuting and hoped for 500 miles per tank but exceeding expectations and expected to be as much as 585 miles so nice bonus.

Assuming 500+ miles to a tank, how much does it cost to fill it up? Is the 66 litre tank bigger than normal?

I'd love one of these, but my 20,000+ mile annual mileage forces me into a diesel.

Given the lower price of petrol vs. diesel at the pumps I'm wondering how far this goes to offsetting the 272's increased thirst...

Well it depends whether you want to put cheap Supermarket 95 octane fuel or the good stuff. The Shell V-Power Nitro 99 octane I use is currently £1.43 per litre so a full tank will be £94.38.

Food for thought, thanks! I don't' want to derail this thread with the supermarket vs. premium fuel debate, or my flawed justification in trying to convince myself a 272 makes financial sense 😂

A great car, I will be following this thread closely, please keep the updates coming!

The Octavia Vrs245 has a smaller 50 litre tank which cost £71.50 to fill and I was filling up 3 times a month whereas the Superb should need only 2 fills per month. Monthly fuel costs and actual mpg to follow but initially looks like about 16 pence per mile for fuel.;)

It’s a little slower than the GTS in a drag and on timed runs. An Australian mag group tested the Superb, Stinger and Jag XE.  The Superb performed better than the quoted figures but was still slightly slower than the Stinger. The Jag got a kicking.

This is standard so...remapped the Superb would be quicker

Got this today using the coasting function a lot on my commute and it was a Sunday which helps.

Haha, when are you going to start giving it the beans??

Otherwise we’ll all be asking why you didn’t get the 1.5! 😉

That included out dragging a Bentley Bentayga up the slip road onto the M1 which the driver didn't like probably having spent £133,100 on their 2.4tonne SUV.:blush

I get that.  It’s nice to pootle along getting excellent MPG (although I struggle with that to be fair) and also be able to accelerate quickly when the ‘need’ arises! 👍

nice this consumption ! 👍

This morning, I did with difficulty 6.6l/100 on my work commute with my new Superb 1.5 😨

About 42 mpg in our money.  Not great.  Depends on your journey though? In traffic, stop / start?

Anyway, apologies @shyVRS245 , we digress!

Missed out the 42! 🤦‍♂️
